I think no matter where any of us stand on the abortion issue, this is horrifying. Condolences to his family. ( Wichita Eagle link)

Sickening irony that he was shot at a church.
That said, it would clearly be wrong to associate all pro-lifers with the criminal who killed Dr. Tiller.

C'mon, you wouldn't have brought this up if this was some random churchgoer in central Kansas who was shot.

Well, it's a national news story, I don't think I would have heard of it at all if it was just "some guy". I think it still would have been a national story if it was another churchgoer, as church shootings tend to be big news. All I did was post a link and condolences, was I supposed to ignore it?

We had a church shooting here in SLC in the last year - didn't get national play. No, you're not supposed to ignore it. But don't post about it and then plead some benign motive.

To label this simply as a church shooting is only half right in my mind. The other elephant in the room is that the killing appears to have been motivated by the alleged murderer's viewpoint of the physician's work.
Indeed many academics have concluded that the second characteristic mentioned above, among other things, qualifies such attacks as acts of terrorism. Different perhaps are the aims of the attackers than those of Al Qaeda, Hamas, and the like. All appear to use certain violent means, albeit in different degree/scale, employed with maximum dramatic effect and occasionally justified by purported religious beliefs, for political ends.
The significance of the church in today's attacks in this broader context will not be lost on some observers and scholars.
I don't think anybody should, has or will "call out" pro-life groups on this issue. Many have rightly condemned the attacker, which was probably courageous given the nature of the debate and the animated/heated nature of advocates on both sides.

Great psychic kchoya! Since you obviously were able to read my true intentions (demonizing all pro-lifers as murders), please use your magic mind-reading powers to tell me my future. Will I find love? Will my family be all right? Will Jim and Pam ever get together? Please, oh powerful swami kchoya, tell me!

Will Jim and Pam ever get together? Haven't they already? She's carrying his baby.

Every time PETA does something like this, I make a point to eat an animal. I wasn't really planning on that for today. I was thinking of just picking up a salad for dinner on the way home (London left me, ummm, just a wee bit bloated), but I believe now I will order a chicken sandwich from somewhere. Or maybe Five Guys. Maybe a chili dog, which comes from all kinds of slaughtered animals, who knows?

How f'ed in the head do you have to be to believe that this is a good idea? What the hell is wrong with these people? At least it shows you can bring pro-choice and pro-life people together on at least something.

Ironically, you'd think the PETA organization overall would be a staunch and adamant advocate for the pro-life position, wouldn't you?
Instead they are just idiots (no matter what side of the abortion debate their members may fall on individually).

More evidence of increasing right-wing extremist violence: www.cnn.com/2009/US/06/03/topless.shop.fire/index.htmlWhether or not a topless coffee shop should be permitted to operate in this small town is good debate for a town meeting. In fact, there was a debate and the coffee shop was permitted. Violence is not righteous!

Protesting the gratuitous exploitation of puppies. Ba-ZING!! ;D (ok, maybe in poor taste, given the original topic, but we seem to have moved on from that)
