SPOILER ALERT OK. liked it a lot. UHURA was awesome... But Spock gets the girl? The back story on Kirk, Uhura -- who got a personality makeover -- Bones, Spock... all good. Sulu and Checkov and Scottie's -- well, the movie is supposed to be fun... and it is. I do wish they had incorporated the Star Trek Theme into the new soundtrack. That was a big missing piece for me. IT could have been updated, re-arranged, and made into a great addition to the film. But, overall, a Fun movie and a whole new start to the Trek series. I expect to see another one in 2011. Did you not see the closing credits? The Original Series theme played over that. As well as Nimoy doing the voice-over for the TNG opening. Was the theme from TOS? I thought it sounded remixed a little. I'd love to hear an updated, slightly electronica-y, but also guitar-y, version. Maybe the good folks over at Corner Stone Cues (who did Requiem for a Tower) will think of something good.

The TOS theme was very sixties, with a lot of Latin flair, which was the style at the time. The movie simply used a fuller orchestral arrangement of this. ( Link). The brassy Next Generation theme is the theme from the Original Motion Picture (i.e. the first Star Trek movie, with Kirk et al.) And of course, let's not forget the crappiest of the all the Star Trek themes, the Enterprise theme.

It was very good. Was close to slipping into cliched Spiderman territory, but managed to stay out of that.

OK Bando, you're right. The one I was thinking of was the TNG theme - TNG ThemeThat one should have been updated (a la C2C's suggestions). A good example of theme music updating is the MI series. One of TV's all time great theme songs updated for the movie. As for overall music throughout a series... the Bourne movies are tops.

When you read the title of this thread, does anyone else hear Sister Mary Aloysius in their head screaming about splitting infinitives?

I really dislike Star Trek but I really liked this movie. JJ Abrams did a fantastic job with this.
