Finally someone is doing what DPS and Metro won't: solve crimes.

Some of the comments after the article are hilarious.
Kudos to the kid for being proactive.

Ive gotten bike wheels stolen from me many times (even with locks) and have always wanted to hid out in bushes one night waiting for the thief to come so i could nab him.
We need more people like this, then once DPS realizes that we want them to solve and prevent crimes they might start trying to!
this guy is awesome, hopefully others will follow.

I think my favorite comment has to be: "Someone finally canvassed the area with POSITIVE RESULTS!!"

the title of this thread says it all: awesome. also, and this may be reading too much into it, but i love how he didn't even have enough confidence in DPS/MPD to include them in the stakeout...he did it all himself, THEN only called DPS (who of course called MPD...) when he had the guy.
and, to second one of the article comments, let's get this guy on the cuddler's case...he'll have him in no time...

This is great stuff, Im so happy this jackass was caught. I guess free alcohol wasn't enough, he had to steal someone's ipod too.
This quote is a classic: "I am also thankful for Simon’s extreme incompetence, without which I could not have caught him"

Kick this d-bag Wu off campus immediately. What a load of crap. His first mistake was stealing it and his second was not returning it immediately? Then what was trying to sell it on craigslist to not one but TWO different parties? Get this clown off The Hilltop. EDIT: Oh... and Joe Combs is my hero. No kidding. Wu should familiarize himself with the term "crime of moral turpitude," because (assuming charges are brought and he is convicted) it's going to follow him for the rest of his life. (Just ask Doug Gottleib.) On the bright side, he'll be ineligible for jury duty in many states.

I can't believe how many people are defending Simon Wu and saying the Combs did the wrong thing (in the Hoya comments) - give me a break...

Wu looks like a total D-bag in the photo of the deal going down. He deserves to have the book thrown at him and AT LEAST a lengthy suspension from Georgetown.

Wow i can't believe that people are defending Wu.
Joe Coombs has inspried me. Who wants help me catch the Georgetown Cuddler. We'll have a girl leave her door unlocked, have her pretend to be asleep and hide in the closet. When the Cuddler comes in we tackle him. Problem solved.

Tremendous effort.
Would have been better if some CSI-type effort was added as well.
Can someone put this in the form of a case study, rip off 40-50 copies, three-hole punch, bind and drop off at DOPS?

Your assumption is accurate. I had a lengthy argument with the cops a few days before all this went down. "Sir, was the ipod secured, or was it not secured?" "No, officer, the iPod was not mummified to a bike rack." They seemed to care about irrelevant nonsense. The police were, very simply, total disgraces. They actively sabotaged my attempts to catch this criminal. They had no interest in solving the crime starting at my first substantiated utterance that the perpetrator was a fellow student. I asked them for assistance during the sting and they said no. They were as much of an adversary as the actual thief.

Resurrecting a seven-year-old thread about your own heroic quest to catch an iPod thief? The legacy of Joe Combs continues to grow here on Hoyatalk.
