Also worth noting, according his own facebook, Lil Wayne is one of Jesse's favorite rappers... Lil Wayne is also one of Monroe's favorite rappers as well, both being from NOLA and all.

He also got in a nonsensical Hoya reference in the his freestyle over Beyonce's Upgrade U on the Draught 3

I don't have a problem with a pop culture icon having a soft spot for Georgetown hoops. At all.

Anyway, the original lyric in question is much older than his most recent mixtape. I heard it at least six months ago.

When I was listening to it, the Georgetown part stuck out and then I heard Uptown Hoya and went crazy. How many times do you hear Georgetown in a song not even by a pop icon like Lil' Wayne. It's just cool that Georgetown is having an impact on people on the court and in music.

Here's the song. Couldn't add it to the original thread. YouTube's blocked at school haha.

Ahh a topic right up my alley...
Wayne isn't gangster. His only gangster cred is those tats and the fact he shot himself when he was like 13/14. He pretends, like most rappers, that he is a gangsta simply by the fact he grew up in the projects and probably has some friends/associates who are in gangs. His lyrics are massively overrated and I agree his perpetually claiming that he is the greatest rapper has unfortunately worked. He just flooded the airwaves the last the couple years with hundreds (literally) of verses and songs and people seem to have been brainwashed to think quantity is quality. The one huge asset Wayne has in terms of ability (clearly he and most stars have charisma) is his flow is often pretty unique, but that's about it. Lyrically he isn't even the top 10 of right now.

He also has a very catchy, easy to listen to voice.

I definitely think that his mixtapes have gotten his name out and give support to his "greatest rapper alive" claim. Personally, I thought that Carter 3 was a disappointment just because his mixtapes were so much better. As to your claim that he isn't in the top 10, I would like to see your top 10. I don't follow the rap game as much as I used to, but he certainly is in the top 5 of current rappers (though my ranking is Jay-Z in first and then everyone else is a tier below).

BIG talks about the "pounds he got down in Georgetown" and Hova also refers to G'town in "The Prelude":
Before the Answer was a 3 I was down in Georgetown with a Hoya chick, lawyer chick
If you want find references to Georgetown or Hoyas in lyrics, just go to Google and search "site:azlyrics.com georgetown" or "site:azlyrics.com hoyas". There are a bunch I didn't know about.

I agree....Talib Kweli > Lil Wayne.. His earlier work was much better, I stopped being a fan before the mainstream started to love him.. lol @ folks thinking he is on the block banging... We should create a database of Hoya references in pop culture.
