Vaughan needs to fully recover from his injury, get more practice and Game time, and he will contribute much more than he has so far. Henry Sims??? Let's see how he does vs. the cupcakes. Maybe JT3 can bring him along. But he is not ready now. However, I do recall the "deer in the headlights" look on Jessie Sapp's face when he came in as a sub in his first game... vs. Navy I think. He looked really unsure of himself. But... became an important contributor later that season. If we are lucky, maybe we'll get the same from Henry. Austin needs to be in the starting lineup.... and he and all the starters need to be on the floor as much as possible. Depth will be a problem all year. But then again, JT3 took 6 guys to the Sweet Sixteen and a very close miss vs. eventual champ FL. So it can be done!! I agree with all of this. If JTIII can run 8, he's happy. And Wattad and Clark have looked better early than I think most of us though they would by game #4. Add Vaughn, and that's eight. As Vaughn gets healthy and Monroe gets more comfortable, the post game will improve. As it stands now, our top three scorers are already are starting 3-5 guys and our post D doesn't look bad at all. It's all about improvement on the glass. We haven't even fully-executed Plan A to be talking about a Plan B anyway.

Austin looked great today. Summers was very good also - those threes he hit at the start of the 2nd half really were the nail in the coffin.

Great to see Austin attack the zone by taking it hard to the hole.

Austin was very aggressive tonight. Just the way we like to see him. Awesome Freeman is starting to live up to his nickname!

our starting five is great. every player can hurt you and every player can defend on the perimeter and run the floor. i think the main problem is that the drop off once greg goes to the bench is precipitous. julian looks slow and mechanical and henry still looks lost.
moving austin to the bench is a band aid. it sounds good in the short term, but really julian and henry just need to start playing better. henry needs to play like a center. its ridiculous; all he does is stand around the perimeter and shoot ugly jumpers. julian can be more productive - i think he just needs more time. we'll see what happens.

From watching Austin play the past 2 seasons, he seems like the type of player who needs to score early to have a good game. He isn't like an Eddie Johnson (ex-Phoenix Suns) or a Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson-type player who can come off the bench and score buckets at will. He's a rhythm scorer who needs a little warming up.

I agree blueeagle.... Austin needs to stay in the starting line up.
He's now neck and neck for top scoring average with Monroe.

I've changed my tune a bit just because austin right now looks like our best offensive player. I was wondering last year where the explosiveness he had in high school was. He has that explosiveness back this year. He's definitely our most complete offensive player. I just wish we had more of a scoring punch off the bench. maybe that will come in time. I think we really need to get henry some minutes in the rest of the preseason. He's got to develop. I think Julian is very, very limited. I think henry has great upside.

I think that our problem this season, if Vaughn and Henry do not develop over the course of the season, will be the absence of a valid low-post scoring threat coming off the bench. We have already seen Jason and Omar score comfortably from the perimeter. I think that they will improve with a few more games under their belt, and so outside scoring will not be an issue. What I haven't seen in the last 3 games is someone from the second unit play with their back to the basket effectively. Sims has taken nothing but three-point shots in the set offense and Julian has not shown any aggressiveness off the boards for put-backs (like PE Jr.) or the soft hands needed for jumpers from the elbow or "hookers in the lane." If we do not have this component to our second unit, then the only way to play them effectively would be to have them run. Our first unit could run the traditional Prince-town offense and the second unit could be our run and gun squad. Thunder and lightning!
