Palin / Pope Benedict work better? We might have to make some exceptions for the German, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Palin / Pope Benedict work better? Too liberal! Why not just go with a James Dobson / John Hagee ticket?

In all seriousness, if Obama wins, I see the Republican contenders in 2012 being Jindal, Huckabee, and Palin (depending, of course, if they use these next 4 years wisely). For some reason, I don't see Gingrich jumping into this one.
If McCain wins, although there's nothing stopping Obama or Clinton from running again, methinks the party will run to a white male, possibly Mark Warner.

A state senator from Illinois was somewhere out in the distant future in 2004, much less the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

But while Palin was fairly obscure in aught four, Obama's national coming out was at the DNC that year, and I'm pretty sure you could have called Clinton and McCain running for president in 08 four years ago.

I'm going in no particular order or party affiliation with Newt, Warner, Bloomberg, Jindal, Sebelius and Petreus.

If somehow things were to fall apart and McCain were to win (and that's unlikely given today's Rasmussen has Virginia O+10), you could engrave Hillary's name in stone for 2012. If Obama were to lose a lead this big, I just can't see anyone letting him run again - and it would validate everything that Hillary said in the primaries - which would make her look spookily prescient.

I am amused at everyone who is putting Gingrich out as a possible Presidential nominee. If any of you have any memory at all you will remember in the past Gingrich was trashed forty times worse than Palin is today. Newt is a strategic thinker and could be the brains behind someone running for President but will never be nominated or elected President. At least that's my take.

This is largely why I left Newt out of my possible GOP list. Also, doesn't have some messy divorce(s) in the past?

I will not be 35 in 2012 but hopefully we can get that annoying clause changed by then.
I will be taking applications for VP now

I will be taking applications for VP now I will advocate the following three-point platform: ketchup on hot dogs or sausages will be a jailable offense, baseball playoff games on weekends must be day games and Syracuse NY shall be expelled from the union. God bless America.
