I'm beginning to think that the entire point of Sarah Palin's bus tour (other than money) is to make the media look like a pack of blithering idiots.
They are obliging quite well, Monty Python Upper Class Twit of the Year-style.
And no, she's still not going to end up running for President.

Perry might be the best in the field and, considering the popularity of his predecessor in conservative circles even to this day, he might stand a chance. The other entrants to date seem to be of the sacrificial lamb variety.

[clip of Daily Show segment about early polling in Presidential elections]
I'm too lazy to go find the link.

EDIT: Not trying to say Michelle Bachmann isn't doing very well right now. She most certainly is. And that's pretty universally acknowledged even from liberal media pundits. And, as I said before, I don't think she'll be easily shoehorned into the "Sarah Palin, Mark II" box. But I don't think things get too serious until after Labor Day. And probably don't get really serious until even later than that. February is still a long way away.

Sigh. Still having daydreams about Admiral Joshua Painter sitting in the Oval Office. (Not to mention liberals could be happy that William Jennings Bryan finally got elected President after so many failed bids). ;D

GOP heartthrob Nikki Haley has announced that the taxpayers of South Carolina will not pay for private parties to host their little presidential preference contests on the public's dime.
Unless the Democrats and Republicans agree to use their own funds to keep SC's "first in the South" status, it looks like SC will lose its undue influence on the system (recall that South Carolina is where Obama delivered the knockout punch against John Edwards in 2008 - despite the fact that Edwards was still polling rather well nationally).

If only something could be done about Iowa, then presidential hopefuls wouldn't be forced to kowtow to ethanol/corn. If West Virginia was an early primary state we'd all probably have coal burning cars by now.

Man, has there ever been a campaign as badly run as Newt Gingrich's? His senior and fundraising staffs have all quit, and he's stuck only doing appearances within driving distances of his homes in GA and DC. He's gotta call it quits by month's end, no?

Man, has there ever been a campaign as badly run as Newt Gingrich's? No. Those who are familiar with my leanings will know that this comes as a huge disappointment to me. HUGE. But it is what it is. There is no arguing otherwise. I don't even know if it can be called a campaign at all, it's been botched so severely. How someone so smart -- and even if you don't like him, I hope you can concede that he's a pretty damn intelligent guy -- and experienced as he is can run a campaign so badly (literally from day one) is beyond me. I think there's an element of the invincible politician's ego to his blunders, but it's not just that.

An echo that runs through American political history. Names like Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney, Ed Muskie, Scoop Jackson, John Connally, Gary Hart, Jack Kemp, and Bill Bradley come to mind. (Honorable mention: Ross Perot.)

To alter your post so it's politically neutral, why not say "recall that South Carolina is where heartthob Obama delivered the knockout....."

Probably a good thing she's not handing out Medals of Honor.

Interesting read, informative even if a bit slanted. We need more of these types of looks at all candidates for the presidency, Republican and Democratic.

New Rasmussen poll: Obama 44%, Perry 39% How many voters can name three issues Rick Perry cares about? As a Perry voter in previous elections, I still see the Govenor as the Fred Thompson of 2012--he looks the part, but could struggle in debates and the scrutiny of a national campaign. Strange as it may seem for some, Texas is not run like the rest of the 49. Perry has dominated Texas elections largely by financially neutralizing the field before the primary, and the utter lack of an organized Democratic Party since Mark White's tenure as governor in the early 1980s (Ann Richards only got in via a major public gaffe by the favored GOP opponent). He can't expect the competition to fold this time around. For better or worse, it's Romney's race to lose.
