I think Gary's so hammered and hopped up on wing sauce that he thinks he's getting Tyreke Evans...
At least I hope so ;D

I don't know if they are getting desperate -- Evans is a talent and if he's been a model student for the past two year I see no issues with giving him a shot.
The bigger bit of hypocrisy is with the Maryland fans. Despite their cries of higher academic standards, this scholarship is open because they took a commit from Bobby Maze, another JC who apparently won't qualify. They also are still waiting on test scores for Mosley, which is interesting, b/c that's their stated reason why they couldn't take a commit from Jeff. Never mind that they also had a commitment from Terrance Jennings earlier this year, who hadn't spent a full year at one school in his six years of high school, I don't think.
I have no issues with Maryland admitting who they want -- just annoys me how high and might the fan base is given their last eight or so commits.

I think he is 23. Sounds like he is a tremendous talent and will be a starter from day 1, but this is not a good strategy for the Terps. There are so many great high school players in the area that Gary should be trying to bring in instead the terps seem to pursuing 3 juco's Evans, Bobby Maze and a forward named Bowman. Let the terps fill up all their roster spots and we can offer our schollies to top area high school talent.

I don't think Maze or Bowman are expected to be at Maryland at this point.
I also think Gary is looking a bit more short term. Two straight years of missing the tourney and third staring him in the face -- he needs talent now and Evans is mature talent. Can Gary wait until 2009 or 2010 to bring in freshmen?

I am pretty sure you didnt mean to make the mistake but before everyone jumps on you, the Terps made the NCAA last year, but not the two years before. either way williams need to learn how to recruit in this area if he ever wants to be successful again

best of luck to him..as much its both troubling and difficult for a Hoya Hoops fan to root for UMD, I will root for this kid, assuming he really has gotten his act clean.

Yep, they did make the tourney last year, they beat.. gasp.. Davidson in the first round before losing to Butler in the second. I can understand how this may go overlooked..

I can't support anyone associated with Maryland basketball, but I hope this guy (can't call him a kid) has straightened his life out, and that, if he's that good, he can find a place for himself in the NBA.

Now Gary is signing players who are older than the girls he hits on at frat parties...

"Starting to get a bit desperate"...it has been full blown desperate for a few years now.
MD is on that slow and steady decline that programs can't get out of. They had one chance to be a legit contender for years to come post-NCAA championship and they blew it with shoddy recruiting.
Gary is just not a good recruiter/judge of talent. The guys he had on the staff who were good left him and he was stuck. He can get max effort out of kids, but even when he had the pick of the litter he messed it up.
Enjoy the bubble the for the next 5-10 years MD fans...

"It isn't clear whether Maryland coach Gary Williams had another scholarship spot open up or if the Terps are still recruiting point guard Bobby Maze, who committed orally in December."
Hmmm...they either meant that he verballed, or something completely different. What's old Gary up to in College Park???

I like this one: "They know all about my past, and as long as it wasn't a felony, it was OK"
Sounds like we have the makings of a new slogan for Terps Basketball:
As long as it's not a felony, it's OK...
