As to bat-girl, I didn't exactly see the Twins kick butt on the White Sox in Chicago this year. It's just one of those home field things, I guess. And of course that archive preceded Ozzie's arrival. He loves the Twins, and makes no bones about it. So bat-girl can take a hike. Meanwhile, if this keeps up I expect to require hospitalization from the concussion I am inflicting upon myself from constantly banging my head against the wall. Blackburn had been pitching so well of late (not), and of course the Sox even made him look good. Choke artists (exceeded only by the Mets - that was brutal last night). That post I linked is from 2004, so any details it references are from that year. But, for all Ozzie's love of the Twins, he did the exact same thing that the White Sox always do: "I don't give credit to the guys that don't deserve credit,'' Guillen said of Blackburn. "Believe me, I give credit to the pitcher when they deserve it. We didn't get the clutch hit, it wasn't because of the way he pitched.''

“I’m starting my new profession – turning vodka into urine.” – Reds pitcher Kent Mercker, on his plans if he retires after this season.
The guy's a class-A jerk, but this is pretty hilarious.

Sure enough, Mets are down 3-1 right now. Way to play with urgency, boys.

Now if TBird wanted to criticize the effort of the Twins in this 4th inning I wouldn't be offended

Now if TBird wanted to criticize the effort of the Twins in this 4th inning I wouldn't be offended It wasn't their effort that was the problem. It was their execution and their communication. Also, the official scorer wasn't watching the game--how did the Twins not get an error in that inning?

Yahoo's gametracker is recording the error The broadcasters said that both Thome's flyball and Ramirez' infield chopper were hits. Hopefully they were wrong

In other news, all of the videos from last year of the Philly Phanatic shooting Mr. Met in the head on the Conan O'Brien show have vanished from youtube. I had hoped to have that video ready to view as soon as the Mets blow it again this year, but, it looks like the NBC copyright people have one-upped me.
Also, with Halladay picking up win #20 this week, is there a chance that there will be a race over AL Cy Young or does Cliff Lee have it in the bag?

"Believe me, I give credit to the pitcher when they deserve it. We didn't get the clutch hit, it wasn't because of the way he pitched.'' But isn't this really true? Look, the Twins deserve tremendous credit for coming back last night from a mess that they made for themselves. But the Sox get demerits for their hitters not showing up for three straight games. When you get shut down by the likes of Blackburn, Guerrier and Bonser, I think it's more on you than credit to them, because, let's face it, none of those guys had been pitching well, and the Sox made them all look good. By the way, I think the Twins are clearly in the drivers seat. First, the Sox may well pull a reverse 2005 now and totally fold. Second, they have to face Cliff Lee. Third, thanks to not having a reliable fifth starter since Contreras went down, their rotation is a mess. They'll have to either start Mr. Clutch Vasquez on three days rest tomorrow (and Buerhle on three days rest Sunday), or start Richard or Broadway. I would be inclined to go with Richard given his last start against the Yankees, and keep my fingers crossed. The only positive the Sox have is that the Royals have been playing well lately, and Greinke particularly has been lights out. Still, I think they're SELF-EDITED.

Who starts for Minnesota if the White Sox win mañana? Probably Nick Blackburn. It was supposed to be Kevin Slowey, but his wrist is still swollen from the line drive he took off of it. Who starts for the White Sox?

The Brewers make the playoffs! CC Sabathia is now being worshiped as a god in Milwaukee.
I sort of wish that they'd gone to a 1-game playoff at Shea. That way the Brewers could have won, and Prince Fielder could have declared "Shea Stadium is officially closed!"

Mets got what they deserved. A complete meltdown 2 years in a row. Pathetic.
Everyone knows how bad the relief corps was, but to get a toal of 5 runs in a 3-game series at home at the end of the year with the post-season on the line? Pathetic.
They need to make wholesale changes there.

Who starts for the White Sox? It would be John Danks' turn in the rotation and I can't see Ozzie pitching Buehrle on 2 days rest or anything crazy like that.
