At this point I really am repeating the same thing, but it's just the same page out of the same book, time after time. Industry-funded propagandists attempt to create doubt by disingenuously exploiting unknowns and the difficulty of prediction that comes with science itself. So yeah, I think it matters that the guy sounding the alarm right now is literally paid to say these types of things. His effort to contextualize it is worth as much as any other paid spokesman's. If these adjustments require a large change in the approach to mitigating climate change, I don't think this is the guy to present that information. Sorry for my knee-jerk reaction to a literal shill. Who needs context??

If these adjustments require a large change in the approach to mitigating climate change, I don't think this is the guy to present that information. Sorry for my knee-jerk reaction to a literal shill. Who needs context?? It's just a page out of the Big Tobacco playbook. The tobacco team had a playbook—a master plan and script that directed the behavior of industry executives, lobbyists, lawyers, scientists, and government officials friendly to the industry. In A Question of Intent, a former FDA commissioner, David Kessler (2001, p. xiii), wrote: "Devised in the 1950s and ’60s, the tobacco industry's strategy was embodied in a script written by the lawyers. Every tobacco company executive in the public eye was told to learn the script backwards and forwards, no deviation was allowed. The basic premise was simple—smoking had not been proved to cause cancer. Not proven, not proven, not proven—this would be stated insistently and repeatedly. Inject a thin wedge of doubt, create controversy, never deviate from the prepared line. It was a simple plan and it worked." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2879177/cebp.aacrjournals.org/content/16/6/1070.full

Does Antarctica's growth or shrinking answer the "question" of global warming?

Does Antarctica's growth or shrinking answer the "question" of global warming? That's irrelevant. The point is there is not 100% certainty on the causes and effects of climate change, therefore nobody knows anything.

The polar ice caps are getting thicker. This is strong evidence in favor of global warming. This is the reason.
As the global temperature rises, there is more evaporation from the oceans. Because there is more water vapor in the atmosphere, there is more precipitation. Since the polar ice caps are still too cold to melt the snow, the thickness of the caps increase. In areas of the globe where there is no year around snow and ice, the evaporation and precipitation appear to offset each other. One benefit is that the thickening of the polar caps retards the rise of the oceans.

From everything I've read, the ice caps at both poles are getting thinner. I have seen reports that in some parts of Antarctica the ice sheet is spreading, although the spread is not thick, long-lasting ice but somewhat seasonal.

The parts of the ice that is spreading and thinning, is in the borderline areas where there is some melting, such has in Alaska. But for the polar regions that never melt, those are thickening and have been for years. As for a source, just google the ice caps and global warming. The thickening at the caps as evidence of global warming is not new. FYI I was a big skeptic about global warming and the reasons for it. However, after doing due diligence with a great deal of reading, I am now among the converted. If you have heard anything about the ice caps thinning AT the poles, I would be happy to look at that.

Pope warns: ‘Catastrophic’ if interests derail climate talks
By Nicole Winfield and Tom Odula Associated Press
NAIROBI, Kenya — Pope Francis warned Thursday it would be “catastrophic” for world leaders to let special interest groups get in the way of a global agreement to curb fossil fuel emissions as he brought his environmental message to the heart of Africa on the eve of crucial climate change talks inParis.
Francis issued the pointed warning in a speech to the U.N.’s regional office after celebrating his first public Mass on the continent. --------------

Just had a look back at page 1 of this thread. Amazing how much has happened since 2008 alone. Can only imagine what's going to happen between now and 2023.
Eyes on Paris ...
