I smell hoax.
(Or perhaps I'm just hoping it's a hoax because, if not, I could easily see that dude going on a killing rampage after being humiliated like that.)
Enjoyed the line about being a Jenny Lewis/Rilo Kiley impersonator though. ;D

That's so wrong. I agree with the annuncer, you have to say yes in that situation. I mean i'm assuming they've been dating for long enough that this wasn't entirely crazy on his part, so I'm assuming she actually likes this guy somewhat. How could you do that to someone you like? Ridiculously uncool.

Ridiculously uncool. I disagree. No one should be forced into a marriage they don't want to be in, and to put someone on the spot like that in front of all those people is kind of a dick move. That said, if you're going to propose to a girl on TV and in front of thousands of people, you should really, really be sure she's going to say yes first.

The Wizards game proposal and rejection a year or two ago was confirmed as a hoax - haven't heard about this one yet.

You're both right, of course (again, assuming this is real, which I am still hoping it isn't). This kid really should have been sure about asking his girlfriend to marry him, and if he wasn't, then what the hell is he doing in front of 17,000 people handing her a ring? If he thought that doing that would pressure her into saying yes, then he deserves exactly what he got. On the other hand, assuming no sinister motive on the part of Suitor #1, this girl easily could have avoided humiliating him. When she leaned down to whisper to him, she could have just said, "Hey, we really need to talk about this, but just so you won't look like an idiot, I'll take the ring for now and let you give me a kiss." On the other hand, we could have another case of the Hoya students at "Spring Break: Jerry Springer" going on here. God, I am bored today.

The lesson here is -- don't propose in a sports stadium!!!!!
That guy didn't look all that broken up about it.

I wasn't suggesting she should actually marry him, I'm saying like boz said, jsut don't embaress the guy be like i'll say yes here so as not to humiliate you, but we really have to talk about this.
I don't think anyone thinks you should be forced to actually marry someone because they propossed in a stadium. but you can tell him no in private and save his dignity. She essentially kicked him in the crotch with that move.

Probably a hoax set up by the Rockets like the one by the Wizards.

Probably a hoax set up by the Rockets like the one by the Wizards. That would explain the mascot comming over to pat the guy on the back And how the hell did a beer materialize in his hand so quickly?

Probably a hoax set up by the Rockets like the one by the Wizards. And how the hell did a beer materialize in his hand so quickly? I suspect somebody handed the poor guy their beer. I wouldn't have done that because, to me, $8 is really too much to spend consoling a total stranger. Two-dollar well shots are my limit. But since the hander-of-the-beer had expensive courtside seats, he could probably afford it.

I agree with a lot of what's been said here - (a) who proposes in an arena? I had a friend from out of town who came to DC with his gf to propose at one of the monuments on the mall and I thought he was insane - that was in front of 30 people tops - 17,000 and TV is another thing all together. (b) if there is even a chance she's going to say no, you probably aren't ready for a proposal.
That said, it is a little too convenient that the announcers are discussing it, they filmed it, and the mascot was there in seconds.

How do we know the Yankees thing was legit? What are the chances that a woman would be reading the message board at the right time anyway? 1 in 10? THink about how many times over 3 hours you spend looking at that thing.

I'm not sure about you, but at a baseball game I watch the jumbotron all the time, also in the middle of the 5th Inning when they are doing those announcements (all the clubs, groups, and paid advertisements) I'm most likely either watching the Jumbotron or going to get food/drinks. Or if its the Nats...just arriving
