That certain Cardinals fan will be in town in time for the game on the 30th. At the first mention of "Jimmy Baseball," I'll buy any Old Style you dump on his head.

Great weekend at Wrigley - 1 win, 1 bat broken over a crazy man's knee, 0 sightings of Jim Edmonds.
Now we just need to switch a few words and we can have "1 bat broken over Jim Edmonds"

Nice that the Cubs were on national TV last night. Not so nice that Jim Edmonds is still terrible, or that Chris Berman broke out the entirely predictable "Hu's on First" routine.

I hadn't been back in a while, because I realized that while I wasn't posting, the Cubs were rolling. Too bad Maddux 1994 decided to show up last night (same thing with Trevor Hoffman).
What I do want to say is that last Friday was definitely the best May Cubs game I have ever been to. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.

So, Saturday morning I got up and drove (solo, wife out of town, friends bailed) to LA for the Cubs game. These are my thoughts:
Dodger Stadium: -Reminded me of County Stadium in Milwaukee with better views out behind the pavilion (bleachers). -Troughs. Why does Wrigley get so much crap for these? I have been to so many places that utilize the trough. This is the place where the real men are separated from you pee-shy ninnies. - Miller High Life on tap. It was like I was in the Tombs circa 2000. - Dodger Dogs. Better that Wrigley dogs (because they don't taste like actual dog), but not worthy of the hype. - Beisbol. I was among a handful of english speakers in my section. - NO BEER MEN. I can't blame these fans for not showing up or staying when they have to miss an inning every time they want a goddamn beer.
The Cubs - One is right. Theriot sucks. - Cubs defense was atrocious. - Derek Lee and Fukudome looked lost @ the plate.
A win would have made the 3 hour (I flew) drive home so much better...

I am glad I missed that game in favor of Lake Travis in Austin -- too bad Cedric was sleeping off his night in the drunk tank and didn't join us.

I will probably get killed in this thread for saying so, but the best ballpark food in the majors can be found on the South Side. Speaking of the South Side, how much longer until the pale hose have a better overall record than the Cubbies? Now that the Sox offense is starting to come around and the starting pitching continues to be great, I give it 2 weeks.

First off - the food at the (prision) Cell hasn't improved over the last 12 years, and it has been lapped by many other stadiums. Nothing down there is as good as Five Guys at Nats Park, Pierogies in Pittsburgh, etc. And by the way -- the kosher hot dog stands at Wrigley are now better than the ones on the south side, because the south siders (at least last year) don't have poppy seed buns.
The Cubs and White Sox play 6 games in 10 days at the end of the month, we'll see where the records stand after that. They're currently 1-2 in run differential in baseball.

"Nothing down there is as good as Five Guys at Nats Park, Pierogies in Pittsburgh," True, the importance of having a Five Guys in the new Nats Park cannot be overstated. It was always busy when I was at games back in April/May but now that atendance has gone back to crap levels I imagine it should be easy to get a burger
As for Cubs vs Sox, it should be a fun Crosstown comming up but I'm not going to call either of us good just yet. Lets see if one or both teams are still leading their divisions at the All Star break and then I'll be somewhat more convinced that its not a fluke
EDIT: Although with Puljos out it should be an easier task for the Cubs now

There is plenty wrong with US Cellular Mall, but the food isn't part of it.
Maybe it is just b/c I love me some elotes and churros...

There is plenty wrong with US Cellular Mall, My favorite part about The Cell is how when the game ends the whole crowd spills into the bars in the thriving neighborhood which immediately surrounds the ballpark.

We prefer siting on the Dan Ryan for hours before retreating to our hovels in "The Region" over partying in cool super awesome Wrigleyville

Well, neither has Alfonso Soriano. Wrigley was better when you could walk up 5 minutes after the first pitch and pick up a bleacher ticket for $6.

Back to baseball... Jim Edmonds has a strange knack for coming through. It's uncanny. He's really making it hard for me to continue hating him. I do love those Unis though. Although the C on the hat has been taken over by the Reds, but the hat color was nice.
