Yeah I don't understand mocking one of our own, especially when he did nothing but work hard and put up great numbers on horribly coached Hoya teams. Why is it ok to mock one of our own who devoted a fair chunk of his athletic career and then his professional life to Georgetown whereas it is entirely inappropriate to mock someone who played for that man? If you're going to blindly support one Hoya, you probably shouldn't knock another Hoya in the same sentence. Touché Excitableboy! I say mock them both. Also, loyalty is a two-way street: while I wouldn't criticize Sweetney for taking off after 3 years, he was obviously thinking of himself and not the fans or teammates or program when he did that. So he shouldn't be put up on a pedestal despite his great contributions to the program.

I dont think sweetney wanted to play basketball a georgetown because he wanted to make the students happy that is ridiculous. even more ridiculous is for you to fault him for thinking about himself (if you want to have a philosophical debate about this im all for it and ready go, just check out my name and youll know where i stand)
Sweetney has no responsibility to the students of georgetown, only to himself and his well being. for you to expect otherwise is despicable and immoral. loyalty should be reserved for principles not people.

You cannot be serious about the loyalty thing. Who wants to put him on a pedastal? We just want to root for a guy who was an all-time great Hoya who gave his heart to the team in the darkest days of Georgetown basketball.
I also think it's hilarious that someone with a screen name of JGalt wrote the sentence, "Sweetney has no responsibility to the students of georgetown, only to himself and his well being."

excitable, i don't think it's mocking to say escherick's teams were horribly coached. did you watch those games? also, that's something different than making fat jokes. i don't discredit esh's contributions to the program, but he was not a great tactician as evidenced by all of the close losses that occurred when we had what should have been a 1st team all american on our roster.

why did this thread move over to this forum... We are talking about a former hoya... i think it should have stayed in hoyatalk section on gtown ball. Why is the Jeff thread still in the georgetown bball section.
ps. sweets was one of my favorites and one of the only reason kept me hoping/watching during the dark years(esch) and was really saddened about how he did/doing in the NBA. -M

What makes your comments about Esh not mocking, but someone else's comments about Sweetney and a Sizzler mocking? Is it that yours weren't funny? Is it that you see objective evidence of Esh's poor coaching? Well, some see evidence of Sweetney eating too much and letting himself go. So I still don't see the difference between the two. I love Mike Sweetney and I don't ever stick up for Esh, but Excitableboy makes a good point. I, for one, think that we should be able to say whatever we want. If you feel let down by someone and you want to mock him, then do it. Sometimes I think people forget that this is an anonymous internet message board. Sweets and Esh won't cry themselves to sleep tonight because some people on HoyaTalk are saying some negative things about them.
