A few things on today's games:
1. Michigan's defense has been destroyed the last 3 games they've played. Just outclassed and through the air which is supposedly Ron English's strength as a coach--he was a Secondary Coach. I know they lost a ton of defensive players--but I see Morgan Trent in a lot of highlights and all I remember is wherever he lined up--USC attacked in 2nd Half of the Rose Bowl. Was it the same thing today or was it younger kids getting a lesson taught?
2. Why did Carr chase points and go for 2 twice in 2nd Half? If he kicks the extra points, different story.
3. Fulmer isn't going to avoid catching heat in Knoxville just because Carr is getting trashed.
4. I am so HAPPY FOR THE RAMBLIN' WRECK from GEORGIA TECH! Thank you Jackets!!!! DOMINATION is putting it mildly.
5. Can't share how great it was to watch a Tech game without Reggie Ball stinking up the stadium.
6. USC will NOT win any title this year--Pac 10 or National. John David Booty is one of the reasons--other is lack of team unity/chemistry. They had 2 guys miss tonight's game due to injuries this week in NON CONTACT practice where their players blasted them--Patrick Turner is one. They didn't show much due to opposing team--but no emotion for the opener? Just seemed like strangers playing a game they were forced to play--and there are too many hungry teams out there for this group. Carroll is going to catch heat this year--but I actually think his teams in future with anyone but Booty will be far superior. Chemistry is a funny thing--and can't explain it to those who didn't watch--but that was oddest game I watched all day--no noise, no emotion, just looked like a team drugged up, sleep walking, and doing what they had to do--as if they were bothered to play Idaho.
7. Tim Tebow is a great fit for Florida's offense--and despite playing nobody--his stats were impressive. I look for points scored and does the team move/and he did a great job.
8. Sam Bradford of OU--same thing--another awful opponent but he did a fantastic job of doing his job--and OU looked more like Stoops early teams in terms of intensity and focus.
9. Texas--Austin--I'm relying on you to recap this--was shocked at the score--but not sure if they were playing it cool with TCU on horizon? What's up?
10. Graig Cooper--FR RB at Miami--told you about for over a year now--get to know the name--he's electric with the ball. Miami is still in need of a QB--badly. The score was not indicative of how close this game could've been--Marshall really squandered some chances to have this a 10 point game in my opinion.
CFB is back--and great day to kick it off. Notre Dame losing makes it a great weekend for me ANY weekend!

Now the longest 2 days of the year until Monday night, after a brief respite yesterday. Give em hell tonight Tiger!!! I've heard from a Nole acquaintance of mine that Ann will actually not in be in attendance which will make this telecast 10 times better--instead of seeing her repeat the same thing year after year and whine about how her husband/sons are treated "unfair". Yeah, it's really unfair to critique people who coach sports for a living and make millions of dollars doing so--that is just not right--we should all be so lucky that anyone would give up their time and take on such a disgusting/unwanted job.

You know what's a fun drinking game?
Evey time Oklahoma State misses a tackle, take a drink. If you make it through the first quarter you are an alcoholic. If you make it through the first half you are dead.

If you make it through the first half you are dead. A better drinking game is how many times you can audibly hear "Eat Sh!t, F*@K You!" During a Wisconsin telecast (Being at a game itself does not count because you are probably already tanked)

BTW, I forgot to mention that as a Miami fan who was just excited to not have Coker as the Coach--the sick people at ESPNU had him as the color commentator for the Miami-Marshall game--that was the most brutal punishment any fanbase can receive--after suffering through his moronic coaching, you are free and then have to hear that monotone Grandpa Clappy voice for an entire game. I now know I'm living in Hell.

Last year's leading and record setting NCAA QB, Colt Brennan, started the season with 416 yards and 6 TD passes with Zero interceptions. So they kept took him out at halftime.
WHAT! 416 yards and 6 TDs in the FIRST HALF?!?!?!

What an inspiring Bowden Bowl, football at its best Clemson students, I think you need a class on when it is acceptable to rush a field/court Beating Syracuse in the NIT quarterfinals = NOT ACCEPTABLE Holding on to win (on a bad call) against an awful FSU squad = NOT ACCEPTABLE EDIT: Ok I just realized that they do this for every game (for football) but imo its an iffy tradition

I stick by my prediction that both Bowdens are gone at end of year--this was same old thing with both programs. 1. No matter who is coaching--what is it about Drew Weatherford that makes coaches play him? HE SUCKS. Better yet, how bad are the backups if this is your best option? Xavier Lee fits the spread more--which it appeared FSU was attempting to run early on--but then they scrapped it for the Drew Gets Sacked offense or Drew throws into Double Coverage offense. 2. For anyone who questions why Coker was fired--he lost 2 years in a row to Drew Weatherford QB teams. 3. Tommy Bowden had 2 chances to put this game on ice--and he doesn't give James Davis or CJ Spiller the ball--he goes to his passing game to "trick dadd-ah". What a moron. Same old Tommy and he'll be fired after this crappy season. Sorry Tiger, Clemson's not going anywhere with him as coach. 4. What is it with the Bowdens and kicking games? Geez. 5. I've seen 2 years of Myron Rolle. Nice kid, good that he takes his education seriously, but he's one of the more OVERRATED players I've ever seen. He's too big/slow to play safety and for a kid his size--he sure doesn't like to hit much. Instead of listening to morons like the commentators--just watch the game--and if you have Tivo watch what he does--often he's either too slow to make a play or he waits for play to come to him instead of closing in and making a play--but you hear about "Future All American" and "Future Great Player"--the guy is a BUST. Just watch him play. It's pathetic how people hype players and don't watch the games.

They do ask that people going on the field now meet the team on the field for the playing of the alma mater (something they do in every sport after a game now.)

I'm hearing on the radio Spiller missed a lot of time in the 2nd half with cramping issues even before they showed him cramping in the 4th.

What a great weekend to kickoff the fall. Anytime Notre Dame and FSU lose in the same weekend it is a good thing. Obviously I am happy for my Gators, but there was very little doubt with this weekend's game. Still the guys on both sides of the ball played well. We gave up 62 yards and 3 first downs on the opening drive and then only 140 yards and 8 first downs the rest of the game. The offense looked great just like I expected. Tebow truly ran the offense, taking what was open and putting the ball in the hands of the playmakers. He was also a lot more under control and poised. Last year he was very emotional and that was fine for a true freshman role player. But now he must exhibit the leadership asked of the tema leader, and in the first game he passed with flying colors.
Colorado-Colorado St. was a great game and I'm glad I chose that one for the Tivo. I don't think either of those teams are going to do much this year, but they were pretty evenly matched.
I didn't see much of the Georgia-Ok. St. game since I was mostly clicking back and forth between UT-Cal and K St.-Auburn, but from what I saw, Georgia looked pretty good -- clearly the best they have looked in the past several years. I didn't see any of the South Carolina game and I think the final was 28-14. But I did notice that South Carolina had the 28 points fairly early. It's possible that Spurrier decided to go vanilla for the rest of the game and save most of his playbook for next weekend's game against Georgia. If anyone else saw the game, what was your take?
Now we just need to get through a Tuesday and a Wednesday and we can start it all up again.

HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
Count me in the pro- Michigan, ND, Syracuse, FSU -losing crowd. One of the most satisfying college football weekends I've experienced in a long time.
Some thoughts:
While Lloyd Carr might be on a hot seat, that hot seat is mostly in the imaginations of the Michigan fans and media. 76% winning percentage is basically untouchable, and Michigan would be retarded to fire him. Who would they bring in? Who could they bring in?
LSU looked great, but I doubt they make it through the SEC undefeated.
USC looked unstoppable...for a quarter. I agree with whoever said a national title may out of the question for them because that warm Southern California sun and those gorgeous Southern California women don't exactly equate with motivation. The FSN PAC-10 coverage was far and away the most enjoying of the weekend; I'm not a PAC10 guy, but I'll take that coverage over almost any ESPN coverage, and as a bonus, the football may actually be worth watching this year.
I really wished K. State had pulled out that Auburn game, because they really deserved to win.
Cal-Tennessee was the cream of the crop for the weekend, despite the fact that it was in Berkeley.
I can't even begin to imagine getting the Season Pass too.
edited to add:
Notre Dame. Now we know why Charlie Weiss didn't name a starting quarterback. He doesn't have one!

Here is the new USA Today poll. Surprise: FSU and Michigan are now on the outside looking in.
Surprisingly, Clemson is still not ranked. Even though they let FSU come within 5, anyone who watched 3/4 of that game saw a very talented Clemson team. I would put them in the top 25 somewhere.
Also, I am kind of surprised to not see App. State get at least a few votes. I understand that Saturday's upset was a one-timer for the ages, but still. I think that coming off 2 straight 1-AA titles, and then starting off this season by winning at Michigan would be enough for at least a few voters to put them in the 20-25 range.
Does anyone know if you can vote for a 1-AA team? I could have sworn that Georgia Southern got some votes and were on the verge of cracking the top 25 some 8 or 10 years ago.
Anyone know?

You are allowed to vote for an D 1A team. App State is not a D 1A team.

Not surprised Clemson isn't ranked and not upset about it either.
As far as the Bowdens and kicking games go, last night was a hell of a lot better than all of last season with Jad Dean going from a Groza finalist the year before to a goat last year (thanks in large part to his outside coach in Ohio.)
Clemson actually has a coach designated special teams coach for the first time in Bowden's tenure (he's also the RB coach who came from UNC.) Kick and punt coverage was 180 degrees from last year. The new kicker played 2 soccer games over the weekend and still got his first FG and got a touchback kicking from the 30. The punter did something that the previous punter didn't on a botched snap (the run for the safety) in 2004 against GT. The bad snap was a direct result of the snapper overcompensating after the previous block - but the formation was adjusted after the block (something Bowden never did when he was handling the kicking game.) The safety gave FSU a chance to get back into the game but I'm still pleased with special teams overall (at least extra points weren't being missed or block like at FSU last year.)

St. Pete, I am not denying that, but if so, do you know if that has changed? I could have sworn that Georgia Southern was on the bubble "also receiving votes" back some number of years. I want to say it was when they had Tracy Ham playing QB and they won a couple of 1-AA titles in a few years.

I actually think going for the saftey was a smart move and should be used more often on botched snaps. Point in contex Wisconsin vs Minnesota 2005 when in the last 20 seconds of the game with UMn up by 2 the Minny punter botched the snap and tried to re-kick resulting in a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and Wisconsin wins. My god was that a great ending
