Well, one of the first names brings someone to mind, but there are no last names listed, if I'm not mistaken.
If the police have these names, why was it neccessary to test 46 players' DNA? Does that make any sense?

www.goduke.com just pulled the roster bios for the lax team. Now that the three players have been identified they realized that lots of people were checking them out.

According to one NC newspaper the party was held at the home of the LAX team captains. Not a good thing. As much as a number of us "hate" Duke, the adminsitrations response to this is what you would expect from a first class school like Duke. We all know a number of schools where this would have been swept under the carpet Based on what we now know I stand corrected

There are DEFINATELY racial issues b/t duke and the local community. This story is huge locally and only promises to get more and more ugly. Let's see what the DNA comes up with and how the investigation goes. I hate duke more than anyone, but I am the last person to jump to conclusions about guilt based upon the few "facts" that are reported by the media.

I checked the first names on the roster, just before they pulled it. I was able to identify the first names with some last names and former high schools. Sorry story! I thought this kind of behavior was stopped 30 years ago.

I'm not sure why the trials would be moved simply because a student if from out of state. If the crime or tort was committed in Durham, then that's the proper venue. On a related note, a change of venue based on an inability to hold a fair trial is usually a pretty high standard to meet.
However, I am troubled by some of the comments of the protestors:
Vigil participants lined the sidewalks, holding signs that read "Real men don't protect rapists,"
Some of the vigil participants said the only adequate response to the alleged assault was to expel every student at the party. Others called for Duke to start the eviction process for the three lacrosse captains that live at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd.
The crowd yelled, "Where are their parents?" and called for the lacrosse team's head coach Mike Pressler to be fired. Some wanted the University to force the group to testify.
Lange answered questions about the alleged incident and the University's reaction. He was often interrupted by people who disagreed with his statements, which included those about the honor code and of the University's decision to await the results of the police investigation before making any official judicial actions.

Sorry, looked at my above comments and they're unclear: was referring to any civil suit that arises from these events. I think we agree the criminal trial(s) will/should be in Durham.

I think the civil suit would probably be there too if the tort was committed there.

Starting to heat up, at least in the local coverage: www.newsobserver.com/102/story/422787.html15 Players Had Prior ChargesLacrosse Team at Duke Under Fire
In the past three years, about a third of the members of the Duke lacrosse team, under investigation in a reported gang rape, have been charged with misdemeanors stemming from drunken and disruptive behavior, court records show.
Of the team's 47 members, 15 faced charges including underage alcohol possession, having open containers of alcohol, loud noise and public urination.
Most of those charges were resolved in deals with prosecutors that allowed the players to escape criminal convictions.
Frankly I think every one of my roommates at Georgetown racked up some sort of violation during their tenure, whether it was an underage drinking citation, open container, or noise violations. 1 out of 3 on the roster is a pretty respectable mark, and I think prior charges of this nature are a complete non sequitor.

Check out Duke President Richard Brodhead's Press Conference. Very impressive. His statement is right on point and he takes questions from the press for almost 30 mins. In my opinion, Duke alumns, students, and trustees should be very proud of how he is responding to the allegations. www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=4200&ATCLID=251530

It seems like the national media is really starting to pick up on this story..seen it mentioned not only on the networks of ESPN, but they also had pieces about it on fox news and other news channels. I agree though that Duke's president answered questions in an impressive manner, considering the embarssing situation the school finds itself.

Another thing that is sad about this, besides the obvious, is that the Duke women's basketball team just made the Final Four and the women's lacrosse team is in the midst of an undefeated season (including a win over GU in Durham), yet these stories could very well get buried in the local papers and will certainly garner little or no national publicity.

I think the people involved and convicted should get a stern penalty. I do think that the prosecutor is going to talk tough at this point so he can work out plea deals and the like or get some of the lax players to squawk. Just a thought.
