Bardo, you make some interesting points about GU's thinking that we were spending too much money and effectively downsized the program. I thought the fall came gradually, but I see from what you are saying that there was a conscious effort in this. Of course, the lack of facilities acerbates the problem. I guess now I am amazed that we have not fallen farther than we have. Stanford can get anybody that they want, but I think it is to the detriment of some of the athletes - they have so many good runners that it seems that some get lost in the shuffle. Now other universities, namely Colorado and Wisconsin, seem to be getting the top distance runners.
Yes, I think that we should concentrate on our strengths and give the support the track and XC teams deserve from past years.
Incidentally, did you and Reformation run track at GU?

i would like to hear what the problems with the duke ellington track development, all i know is what i get from GU propaganda but it sounded good, basically on campus new track.
it is a travesty that GU is underfunding the track program, i was worried when gags left that this could happen.
I miss the days when BE championships came at a pace of several per year in the track program.
btw, i will take this opportunity to thank nevada for all the updates, i for one really appreciate them.

The Duke Ellington track has good proximity to campus right on Reservoir Ave, but it's not a regulation sized track, I believe it's five laps to a mile. I'm biased and a "sore ass" --I think the track program deserves a facility on campus.
I thought an effort had been started to raise money for an oncampus facility, and shortly thereafter The Spiked Shoe Club began soliciting for this project. To be honest, it's left a bad taste in my mouth.
The athletic department over the last 10 years has built up lacrosse and football...but in some aspects has turned its back on track....despite the many BE Championships, IC4A Championships, and All Americans that track and XC has produced.
I want to say this as well, I 100% support the coaching staff and track athletes, I think they continue to produce great runners and get the most out of what they have working in far substandard conditions.
I agree with tgo, if you want to find what's happening with xc and track, look to Nevada, I think I've said this before, if Nevada and GUHoyas.com were in a race, Nevada would be taking his victory lap while GUHoyas would just be getting out of the starting blocks!!!
