I just got this email:
Not much has changed with Laura, but I did want to say that she was very responsive this morning, and I read to her some of the many cards that she has received. I would ask her to squeeze my hand if she'd like for me to keep reading these cards, and she would keep squeezing. I just kept telling her that she just needs to keep staying positive and be patient and the doctors are going to take care of everything. I really gather that she understands and she's waiting patiently for the liver. When I moved around in front of her face this morning I could see her eyes follow me. We could get her to squeeze her hand and wiggle her toes. I'm going to go back this evening and watch some Friday night tv with her. Laura's parents are still up here, and they've had some positive interaction with her as well. They watched Survivor with her yesterday evening. Things are about as well as we could hope for them to be in her weakened state. As I understand it, the longer she is on dialysis the greater the potential for damage to other organs in her body (or perhaps the greater chance for her kidneys to not *bounce back*). However, there is not really a more productive alternative for that...until she gets a new liver. ...... As of 2:50pm today, as I was writing this e-mail, I just got an update from the doctor that we all love. She has informed us that there looks to be a good liver coming in for Laura. It may not be until midnight or sometime thereafter. But THIS IS THE NEWS THAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! I will keep you informed of the progress of this the best I can. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
She is certainly not out of the woods yet, but this is a huge step in the right direction. Please continue to keep them both in your prayers. Thank You

haha i feel like this is a test from the Almighty and I am about to fail...
look hifigator, i am happy about your friend. that is "great news." But this is a basketball board. more specifically, this is a Georgetown Hoya basketball Board. your news is great, but has no place here because you are neither a georgetown hoya, nor do you talk about anything remotely basketball-related.
Move this thread admin so EVERYONE checking the board won't hit this link hoping to see good basketball news like i did. stop posting about your ill friend on the basketball board.

This is ridiculous. Look, hifi, I'm glad to hear your friend is well. Obviously. The last thing I wish on ANYONE - even SU-cks fans - is illness like this. I'm glad to hear you didn't lose someone close to you.
But I've had two grandmothers die since I've been a member of this board. I'm sure others have lost plenty of close ones. And yet the only time I've heard this board ask for someone's prayers are with our coach's wife was diagnosed with cancer, and when the sister of a fellow Big East coach's sister (herself an NCAA D-1 coach) passed at a young age.
WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, this is neither the time nor the place. Don't you have family and friends to celebrate this news with?

That's "Swamp Thing", "A-Rotten," and "Captain 3 Quarter" to you Buffalo. ;D My thing with this "I need your help/prayers" thing is that it's overdone on the message boards by losers who don't have anyone else to talk to--for the love of all things annoying, this Gator fan is someone who fills that description. I will say what many of the "Silent" are thinking--I don't care. Sorry. But I just don't. I've lost people in my family during my time on HoyaTalk and while I see this as my "hoop family" for GU basketball, I dont' feel the need to bore people who like to talk hoops with personal updates on my family. So now we've got this "guest" and he does the "I'll win some friends because I have none, so insert violin, here's the tragic story...." I just don't care--too many people to worry about and take care of in my own life, don't need this or care to hear about it. Sorry if it's cold, rotten to say, etc.....but I admit to having doubts whether this situation is even real. I think this guy is so lonely and pathetic, he'd make this up. I wish anyone in a bad health situation the best of luck, but can't say this is/will be among my top priorities.

Praying is for suckers. I get just about the same stuff I pray for, whether I pray to God or to the Fonz
Also, I don't care about your family. In fact, I hope they die. There needs to be less people in the world. Hey its harsh, but its the true, and I'm going to say it because I can. I'm not a very nice person, and I don't really care. If only you knew my true plans for world domination.

Is it just me, or is Family Guy just a little less funny now that Matt & Trey have taken the show to the woodshed for two consecutive weeks?
This is like the time I got a job as a carrot cake.
Or is Family Guy less funny becuase all of Seth McFarlane's efforts are going into American Dad? After a shaky first couple episodes, that show was great for the rest of it's first season. Which probably means it's cancelled.
She gets points because she brought me a sandwich. Did I mention there were points? There are.
Anyway, cheers to hifigator's friends on their good news & good luck the rest of the way.

I tivo'ed it. I do agree South Park comentary on Family Guy has hurt the show. As I was watching it I was trying to find a joke that make sense to the plot and they are few and far between.

Yeah, but that's what makes the show hilarious, in my opinion. I dunno, I find Family Guy as funny as ever. To me, its South Park that has gotten less and less funny... although these "cartoon wars" have been hysterical.

Well, Family Guy hasn't changed or anything, the show is what it has always been.
I still appreciate what Family guy has to offer. For instance in the re-run last night you mentioned, I was laughing out loud all over again at the Madonna riff at the end - which was relevant to nothing except itself, of course.
South Park just sort of forced everyone to peek behind the curtain. I found myself paying attention to the "criticisms," and maybe that's why it seemed a little less funny, to me anyway. Penn & Teller would appreciate the cartoon wars episodes, I'm sure.
(Incidentally, for years since FG started, Simpsons die hards have been saying the same thing about Family Guy that South Park just did)
I disagree that South Park has lost a step. I think this has been their best season. But as my hero James Dalton was fond of saying, "Opinions vary."
The Holy Trinity still is probably Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy. I hope American Dad gets a chance and doesn't ge the axe. Obviously, I love everything they do on Adult Swim, but a lot of those shows tend to turn into just one big, continuous sex joke. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
Except Home Movies. The most underrated cartoon ever, in my opinion. So sublime, the exact opposite of most of the others. And also looking forward to the return of Venture Brothers -- very good riffs on all the superhero/adventure cartoons everyone watched as a kid.

I just got back from vacation, so I haven't visited the board in ten days. To those who gave prayer/good thoughts or concerns I thank you. To those who suggest the only reason I am here is because I don't have any "real" friends, you are sorely mistaken and you are the sad individuals. To those who complain that this is only a basketball board, I thought that was specifically why threads like this are put in this particular forum. Lastly, to those who are discussing Family Guy, I will have to defer to others. I am not much of a fan but in fairness haven't given it much of a chance. In any case I certainly am in no position to comment on the show.
To any who might actually care, unfortunately the liver in question was "too fatty" and the doctors advised against it. We are still waiting on a suitable donor. There were two good signs from last week however. One is that Laura was removed from the respirator entirely. The second is that a liver infected with Hepatitis B became available late last week but the Docs also advised against that one. The reason that is good news is that 3 weeks ago a liver was available with Hepatitis C. At that point the doctors said that they would advise to take a liver with Hep B, but not Hep C. Apparently her numbers have stabilized and her condition is not quite as dire as it was 3 weeks ago. For those who are of the belief, please continue to pray for them. Thanks.
