Tonight, ESPN's Doug Gottlieb rants about the overrated Big East and their crappy pre-conference schedules.
Amazingly, he does not include the Hoyas in the list of offenders, concentrating on Top 25 pretenders UConn and Syracuse.
A.) So what? Why is this any different than UConn's and SU's pre-conference schedules EVERY year?
B.) This, coupled with a triple diaper dandy mention of the Hoyas by Dukie V, must mean there is a 'tout the Hoyas' internal ESPN memo circulating.
Finally, it's official:
"Georgetown is back, I can tell you that." - Jim Calhoun

Let them rant all they want. Which conference has won three of the last six National Championships? It ain't the ACC or the perrenial choking Big 12.
GO HOYAS!!!

Look it has to be said that Gottlieb is a huge homer (like most ESPN commentators) - taken together all his commentary has the following connotation:
A) The Big 12 is very good, please ignore any ranked teams from the BE and ACC.
B) Oklahoma State is the best team in the Big 12, please ignore Kansas.
C) Eddie Sutton will win a national championship, please ignore his coaching history.

How does he mention Tark so many times...and not bring up the countless allegations about his recruiting practices and dreadful graduation rates? I mean, if you want a solid argument for why he's not in the HOF, I think those are two very VERY legit reasons...

Guy got kicked out of a BE school, and was eventually saved by OSU. Of course he's got a bit of a bias...

I thought Tark ran a squeaky clean program. The students at UNLV seem to think so.

Pimping Tark makes for a great strategy: if he can make a case for a total sleaze bag who enjoyed more than his fair share of on-the-court success, then Sutton should be a shoo in by comparison. Fortunately, that strategy is also pretty transparent.
I thought Gottleib's failure to even come close to owning up to his connection with Sutton was a real nice touch. The fact that he spends much of the article trashing as many other coaching luminaries as he can in order to drag their overall reputations down to where Sutton's resides really adds a nice touch to that "courageous" stance.
When it's all said and done, Gottlieb's piece makes him look like exactly what he is, a muckracking Sutton sycophant.

Yeah, I saw Gottlieb's swipe at the Big East. I mean it seemed like he was almost angry (probably was). Again, the credibility of ESPN is a farce. Everybody is a homer there. Objectivity has gone by the wayside with this network. Thats why I liked Raftery, Len Elmore, and Digger Phelps. They break down footage, without having agendas. These young guys (Katz, Gottlieb, and on a few occasions Bilas) and Dick Vitale are just obsessed with the ACC and the former schools they play for.

Gottlieb was booted from ND after stealing a teamate's wallet and using his credit cards. Strange that one criminal (Gottlieb) would pimp another one (Tark), while attacking the good guys (Carrill).

Gottlieb is precisely the argument that Sutton supporters use though, he takes "student-atheletes" that need a second chance (in reality a third or fourth in most cases) and puts them together on a winning team. I personally don't buy it, and I also don't like the fact that his point guard from the 2001 season has to desguise his stump speech for Sutton as an analysis piece. I really dislike how ESPN has gotten away from having fun with sports to taking up causes. I don't want to hear an NFL Live 4 minute rant on Randy Moss' touchdown dance of the week and then see a commercial for Tilt that features a sex scene and a stripper, nor do I want to hear Linda Cone stumping for the Mets, Doug Gottlieb for Oklahoma State, the Big 12, and Eddie Sutton, Dicky V for Coach K and the mid-majors, Mike Jarvis stumping for the Big East, etc. I'd much rather see Kenny Mane and Berman having fun with highlights.

What has happened to Kenny? Have I not been watching SC at the right time, or has Kenny totally disappeared? Same w/David Aldredge? Is he still on baby leave? Finally, the last World Wide Leader topic - Rob Dibble got fired.

David Aldridge got let go so they could replace him with Steven A. Smith.
This moves epitomizes everything that sucks about ESPN.
Well, this and "But all I want to do is drive, Daddy!"

Hoyainspirit, Kenny Mayne is no longer full-time with ESPN. He is independent. He only does funny segments on ESPN Pre-Game NFL show.

SFHoya, if you were a true "3" fan, you would know the actual quote is: "All I wanna do is race, Daddy." And yes, I just admitted in public that I was a huge fan of 3. Chinatown and icehoya, insert your comments freely as follows.

I can't believe I screwed that up. Admittedly, I saw none of the movie, avoiding it like the plague.
But I must've seen that promo 9 gagillion times.

When does TILT start? I can't wait to not watch that, just like I didn't watch "3". Why does ESPN think that it can do this drama thing? Admittedly Playmakers was alright, but then ESPN showed that it could be bought by the NFL and exactly how much it lacked an independent perspective. I would much rather see the Put-Put National Championship than "3" or TILT - i mean the clown hole and windmill hole, you can't beat that.

Oh man, do remember those skins match mini golf challenges from when we were kids? They were definitely on TV in Richmond, VA...maybe not elsewhere? I only barely remember it, but I can recall two golfers going head to head in minigolf for cash on each hole...
