My last post on this topic. First, there were times in the last 20 years when no one would have mistaken the band for "musical performance". So take the criticisms of Suz and "bando" with a grain of salt. After all, she did mention she had a hot dog thrown at her; maybe it was deserved. Hi Pot. I'm Kettle.

This is such a great thread, and since i just can't bear to ever see it end, I've decided to put my own ass on the line by performing a solo modern ballet routine to "Ironman" while dressed in a clown outfit. In order to deflect some of the criticism voice in this thread, I will perform during the 3rd timeout of the 1st half instead of at halftime.
I am ironman.

But I thought our ballroom dance team never performed in front of anyone prior to the halftime show? I know this thread is ridiculously long, but I thought I read that in a YB post.

JJL -- I think YB is refering to the World Championships against themselves.
Just to respond to YB's ad hominem attacks at me: 1) I've had season tickets, including as an undergrad, for the past 16 years. I am a vocal and positive supporter of Georgetown. For that matter, I also admire and applaud the efforts of the band, the cheerleaders, the dance team, Groove Theory, the kick line, the junior high bands during Christmas break, the jump rope teams, Bubblevision, FOTG, Jeff Green's mom, and pretty much every non-court attraction of any type, organized or not organized, that generates school spirit and supports the team. What I refuse to support is an activity, particularly on the court, that embarasses Georgetown University. The performance that you coached, choreographed and participated in was such an embarassment. 2) Since when is calling someone ultra-sensitive homophobic? I'm ultrasensitive about some things and I'm straight. I don't really understand what you are getting at.
Thanks!

Brothers, sisters, fellow Hoyas, I think we have all lost sight of the TRUE magic of this post. Suz, a female poster (of which there are so few on this board), has started a thread which burst into flame minutes after she posted it and has gone on for six pages. I applaud you Suz, you have blazed a trail for women's rights on the internet! May your child be as courageous as his mother! Now keep it up -- I think this thread could hit 10 pages before the weekend if we all work on it!! /not being sarcastic // trying to be funny Now let's beat Syracuse!

Michigan, As an outside observer, I thought your comment had a homophobic tone to it. Is it possible that you did not mean it that way, probably. Did it come off in that way within the context of your bashing the team, I thought so. And if you didnt mean it in that way then why are you so defensive about it? Furthermore, it is hypocritical to say this because I like to support all of the GTOWN related performances at Hoya Games, but cmon, you have an issue with Ballroom dancing, but you dont have an issue with the kick line or the cheerleaders? The cheerleading team is awful, has been consistently awful for several years and is always the brunt of so many jokes by fans at gtown games, so I dont really see why you are such a big fan of them or how they are not a consistent embarrasment in the same way. I really dont understand the justification for the starting of this thread except to fuel negativity and infighting amongst people on the board. People seem to be laughing about this thread, but I have to say I find it particularly offensive and pathetic.

As enjoyable as this thread has been, I really don't get the inference of homophobia. I know one poster used the word queer to describe the ballroom dancing, but immediately couched it by saying that he meant the word as in "dorky" and presumably not as in "Johnny Weir." And anyone who makes the leap that calling someone ultra-sensitive is implying homosexuality seems to be twitching at the trigger of the PC gun. It just seems like an excuse to get offended about a perceived insult that really wasn't there.
So what? SO WHAT?!?!? SO LET'S DANCE!!!!!

I think the primary difference between the cheerleaders and the ballroom dancers is that when the cheerleaders take the floor the average fan says to himself, "oh .. cheerleaders. they're not that good, but whatever." The same average fan's reaction to Wednesday night's halftime show was, "What the $% is that?!?!?!?" I have to say that I'm generally a fan of both the kickline and the dance team. Those girls are, if nothing else, rather enjoyable to watch.
Why is it offensive or pathetic to critique the halftime show? I find it a little more offensive that my critique results in sanctimonius ad hominem attacks.
(For the record, the closest thing I can compare to the "performance" was the troupe of "clowns" during the Esherick Era. They came to games to juggle and ride unicycles and to generally attract attention to themselves and away from the court. They were ridiculous and also an embarassment.)

Things that are embarrasing: 1)People who paint their face and body blue, wear stupid ass wigs and bounce up and down at games because they are starved for attention 2)People who start threads everyday about how they are the biggest fan, who then get into fights with other people going "im the biggest fan", "no i am", "hey man, I traded my first born for tickets to Hoyas USF" etc 3) The fact that we cant get people out to Hoya games consistently unless the team is doing well 4) People who have to start threads about how academically superior they are to other schools and who chant like "safety school" at games when our team is losing or to put down other fans. If you are so secure in your education, then why do you have to bring it up all the time? 5) People who actually care enough about the half time show at a hoya game to start a 6 page long thread about it. I mean, how sad is your life if you are offended by a half time show, that is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
Things that are not embarrasing:
Trying your best to put on a performance with a bunch of drunk a$$H*les in the audience who will then proceed to talk $H*t about you for the next few days to amuse themselves

Harbin,
If you were a real fan, you wouldn't be at Proof. You'd have traded your kid for a ticket to MCI center, be there with a Blue Wig on, picking on the halftime show AND chanting Safety School to the Cuse fans.
Get with the program.

I'll pass. Anyone who doesn't find this thread funny (despite a few hurt feelings and, yes, some comments in questionable taste) probably wears turtlenecks and drinks white wine.
