At the University of Florida coed escorts are called, "Gator Greeters". Most major school has them and girls want to be a part of them. It’s a desired position that gets them access to the athletes. They aren’t forced into it. I’ve been on these visits and know what goes on. That’s why I’m not that worked up about what went on at Louisville. I could even argue it was safer for the athletes. Did you play D1 basketball?

Can you expand on this? What is being said? This is very concerning and I am wondering if these coaches feel like they are slighted by the program which would explain our local recruiting results. I posted this in the approach thread as it seemed more appropriate but it went largely ignored. Maybe people don't realize who the people are in this tweet thread but it certainly can't be classified as a good thing. Not only did you post it in the Ewing thread, but you said you were getting out the popcorn to prepare for all of the reactions (no doubt preparing to enjoy real Hoyas fans current heartache and despair). And then not a single person responded. That was pretty funny actually.

6 assists, 0 turnovers for Dante. Where you at hoyaboya Right here - what’s his shooting percentage? That's the best you have? Just go away. You are a troll.

Foul trouble in the front court The front court isn’t what I was talking about. Aminu and Dante were exhausted and needed a blow. It was completely obvious.

Because +/- is a meaningful stat in most cases? If you watched the game, you know who had the better one and it isn't the guy you're choosing over the guy you like to crap upon. Beard clearly looked like the better player to me. More under control, better defensively, not going 100 mph every second. Harris had a couple nice moments, though. But he also was out of control offensively a bunch and lost his man defensively often. Overall it’s clear Beard has been better coached and is a more cerebral player. Any normal Hoya fan is also excited and optimistic about Beard and his future. But do we need to compare the two? You so clearly have an agenda with respect to Dante that your opinion on our point guard situation is kind of meaningless to anyone paying attention to your posts for the last year.

Side effect of the new season ticket policy for these early OOC games, it's now impossible to get a cheap single game ticket to these games. I have a happy hour in Chinatown today, and I'd love to stay late and do the American game, but tickets are $30 with fees on both Ticketmaster, with Stubhub no different with almost zero supply. Or am I just missing something? If you are still here I have a very good seat for you for free (sitting next to me though). PM me asap if still near arena

Purely conjecture but do we win this game with Tre King or Wahab? Feels like scoring from our front court was sorely missed. The problem is unless Mutumbo is going to be a guy who can chip in 10-12 points, not sure where the production will come from this year. Tim? Holloway? I think even with Dante not showing up/not playing facilitator we win with King or Wahab. Tim would have been good in this game just because of the size/length factor. Even against Big East teams his length and size seemed to scare the other teams for some reason more than Wahab. He will draw help just based on his size, whereas you don't even have to cover Malcolm. I think however foul trouble will be an issue for Tim staying on the floor. I think based on what I saw Malcolm is still just a garbage minutes player and nothing more. Good kid, smart but doesn't look like he will be a factor this year. Mutombo looks better than advertised to me. I was not sure what we had with him because he played against lower competition in Atlanta but he is much better than I expected him to be and will have to play 20-25 minutes a game for us to make any noise. I think Mutombo can get 15-18 points (with a good mix of inside and outside game) a game with sufficient minutes. Even then I still think we need a Tre King or replacement big body just for the inevitable foul trouble game with both Tim and Mutumbo on the bench. That will be needed to be a BET or NCAA tourney team. Basically the way the roster is constructed now, the whole season hinges on Mutombo's rapid development. I think we are actually better in the back court and with the wings than last years group. The concern is more at center and power forward (replacing Jamorko's defense and Bile's length at the 4 and Wahab's production/offensive threat) Small sample size, but Ryan also looked very comfortable at the line, which is a positive sign.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but there was a tremendous student section today. All 4 sections behind both baskets pretty much completely full. Really disappointing they didn’t get a better performance and result. Hopefully they won’t give up and will continue to come out and support the team as they hopefully grow and get a lot better than they showed today. Based on some of the lines on 7th street to get into various establishments, looks like the students were going to try to make the best of a really crappy start to the day.

The doom and gloomers are out in full force. Yea this sucks. But no it absolutely does not erase what happened at the BET. I still love the trajectory of the program. Unfortunately a hot streak does not constitute a trajectory 10-4 coming into today since 1-30-21 is a hot streak?

Don’t really care but I am not real interested in playing any team with a former Hoya. That should not be the story going forward. Let them play someone with the focus on basketball and not some issue involving grudges or why a player left a team. Post of the week. Agree as well. Lets just play a game where everyone can focus on the game and not some unnecessary side show. Although I suppose if you could guarantee me the win, then I will take TT in a 5/12.

Went to the store to pick up today’s Washington Post but was disappointed to see we aren’t on the cover of the sports page. I guess maybe our game ended too late? Hopefully we’re on tomorrow’s cover. Oh boy, I think you might have just poked at a hornets nest and released a caged animal at the same with this post [MCIGuy]

Just over a week ago, I mentioned during the UCONN game that I looked forward to a year we could wake up on Selection Sunday and be arguing about seeding. I didn’t anticipate what a difference a week would make. The great thing is that we know we are in the field!! It’s a great feeling. I also am getting into this whole idea of being the underdog. For so many years, we have been the higher-seeded team trying to avoid upsets. Many times, we fell short. Now, we are the underdog team absolutely no one wants to play. Everything I have been seeing projects us on the 12 line. I could see an 11 as a possibility or even an outside chance at a 10 if the committee gives us a benefit of the eye test. We are an underdog at this point, but not really a fluke. A lot of our numbers look like borderline NCAA Tournament numbers. Plus, we were playing quite well in the weeks leading into the BET. We needed very win this week to get to that point, though. I do know this — no one is going to be excited to play us. And I am very excited to see who we get to play. I hope the team gets some good rest and plays with the same energy later this week that they had in New York. I was initially seeing 13 and even 14 as possibilities, but I am thinking we cant be lower than a 12. Not for rewarding us, but just simply because it would not be fair for a 3 or 4 to get that matchup in the 1st round (the way we are playing now). Is it absolutely the case that because we are not an at-large team we cannot be in a play-in game?

Defense has definitely been the cornerstone of our turnaround. Bile's grit and hustle lead the way, but every single player has bought in. Jahvon was a defensive liability for 3 years, but buckles down on every defensive possession now. The fundamentals across the board are so much better. And of course getting more experience playing together develops the defensive scheme. Can't wait for the selection show and our next game. Time for US to be the lower seed that ruins someone's party. Only because I haven't seen his name mentioned a ton...but what Carey did to Ballock was ridiculous. The guy had no room to breathe. Carey was a legit liability on defense early in the season, it's the reason why Bile was inserted in. Now it doesn't even matter, the defense is holding up and Blair's instant offense off the bench plays. Credit to Coach Ewing for finding the perfect combo. Agree 100% on Carey. He seemed slower / a step behind on D the first half of the season, but right now he is appears so quick and active. The turnaround is hard to believe. Ballack had no room to move or get a shot off almost the whole night. And that was so important in this game because Ballack 3s is such a big part of Creighton scoring runs that never happened. It wasnt quite what Dwayne Bryant and Mark Tillmon combined to do to Dana Barros in the 89 quarters, but it reminded me a bit of that. Jamorko and Jahvon are #1 on my list of who I am most happy for, but Don and Chudi are probably 2nd. I have no idea what their other options were a year ago, but they made the decision to come to Georgetown and I imagine whatever they envisioned was the best case scenario from that decision couldn't top what they experienced in NY this week and hopefully what is still to come in Indy. And in case your wondering, tied on my list for third is Pat and long-time Hoya fan dTrain, whose other teams are the Mets and the Jets. That dude really needed some sports happiness in his life.

This is what being a fan is all about. Time to pop some bubbles (Orange colored ones?) and kick the freakin door down: - The coaching staff simply must put Dante on Boukni....oh. Nobody needs a 500 word missive on that anymore? Honestly the matchups are very straight forward against Creighton. Dante hounding Zegarowski, Blair / Carey chasing Ballock off line, Bile and Pickett are pretty interchangeable against Jefferson and Mahoney although I think Bile starts on Jefferson.
- It's really hard to read too much into our 2nd Creighton game. It was both teams 3rd game in 6 days, and while both teams are probably similarly worn out going into tonight, there's just a different level of energy playing in the Mecca on Saturday night. Both teams will be ready
- That being said, in both games, we forced a turnover at least 1 in every 5 possessions. Can we keep that going? We hit that same number vs. SH last night, it's probably the right bogey for success on that end.
- Creighton was feisty on the boards last night. And this is going to sound weird.... we're a good rebounding team, but we're not a great boxing out team. Ewing yells REBOUND and not BOX OUT after all, and our guys literally run to the rim and then jump really high. That works against most teams, but turn, find a body, make contact, and then explode up for the rebound. It's a lot easier that way.
- This is going to be such a discipline game for Q. He simply can't get lured out there by Bishop. Can't get exposed to Zegarowski drives to the hoop. Force them to settle for mid range 2s. And then dominate Bishop on the other end. Q showed two moves that have long been in the works against Obiagu. Both started with him going to his right shoulder, which is a tendency breaker. First time he spun back to his left for patented hook. Second time he used the rim as a shield for the and-1. Those are the counters that have been missing. He's ready
- The one thing I saw Willard do that McDermott will probably steal...in the 2nd half SH started flipping the screen on the PG at the last second when the ball was at top of the key. So our drop coverage was ultimately set to the wrong side. Now in theory the big is far enough back that he can get to the spot and stop a drive, but it's a pure race now and Reynolds won it twice. Zegarowski will make you pay much more than Reynolds did. Something to watch
- The experience of tonight will be invaluable to Q, Dante, and whoever is coming back. Pickett again referenced the players only meeting post Covid break. That Dante and Q have experienced winning, know what it takes, and can be the leadership voice for next years team is so crucial. It's really tough to get buy-in on a culture when you're losing. This run can truly change the trajectory of the program
Pre game pump up speech recommendation (for players and board members alike): 1. Start with the Little Giants. Nice, fun, underdog. Just need to win the race down the hill one time 2. Then work your way up to Miracle. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Creighton and their beautiful offense. They're all gonna be gone next year. Their time is over, this is our moment. 3. And then you finish with the best pump up speech of all time, Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday. This is a game of inches. We fight for that inch, its the difference between living and dying. 4. Run through a brick wall
Hoya Saxa
On the boards point, a lot last night were long rebounds where we were in scramble. If you're closing out hard and end up past the shooter, you can't box him out. Just stay controlled. If they shoot the lights out, they shoot the lights out Q is my biggest concern on D. That's not exactly an insight. He has the tendency to stay in place on the drop and in a help posture too long. Once his initial man rolls, he has to fully recover. If that means an open twelve footer, so be it. Can't give up the dunks. Just watch him on D early. If he's recovering quickly to his man, my guess is we win. And if Chudier could pick any game to decide there's no need to double every time, this would be a good one to pick. Next year you and rhw should commit to doing some kind of official scouting report for each game (as a service to the rest of us).

Has anyone else completely fallen in love with Steve Lavin like I have the past four days? He has been so positive about all things Georgetown and Coach Ewing (and spot on accurate in my biased opinion). I nearly soiled myself when he was saying that after watching this run every top recruit in the country should have Pat’s number on speed dial. Donny Marshall’s been great too. And Patrick is becoming a master at the immediately post-game interviews. Saying just the right things each time - and I love how he keeps mentioning the guys coming in next year and talking about the momentum we are building and how the future is bright. And the fact that you can’t stop smiling when he gets interviewed (many non Gtown fans have said same thing to me) is a nice look. It seems obvious to me that the “high level” basketball world really respects (and it seems adores) Patrick Ewing and it is so nice to see the wildly positive press and reactions to this run (which really started January 30 - not March 10).

It's early but I feel like Dante has potential to be one of the most likable Hoyas in years. Talk about an underdog story! Coming from a small school that nobody has ever heard of, with no other high major offers. Got his offer from Georgetown shortly after RJ Davis committed to UNC and committed within the next few days. Didn't wait around to see if Tennessee or the SEC or ACC would come calling, but knew he wanted to be a Hoya. Thrust into the starting point guard position way earlier than he should have been. Diminutive size--to borrow a quote from the movie Rudy, "5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin'"--but plays with exceptional heart. Makes all the hustle plays and always supports his teammates. Even little things like helping up opposing players or confessing when he touched a ball that went out of bounds. And after every time he makes a big play, including yesterday's clutch free throws, he points to heaven in remembrance of his mother. I mean as a fan, how can you not be rooting hard for this guy? I know there's some chatter about us bringing in another point guard for next year (a discussion for another day), and I understand it, but I'm excited to root for Dante for the next 4 years and watch him grow. Yesterday was not the last big moment he'll have in blue and gray, and he seems like exactly the right kind of guy to help Patrick build the culture we're hoping to cultivate. Perfectly said.

One of my favorite nights of the year. Nothing quite like Big East Semis Friday night at the Garden when the Hoyas are playing - Looking back at my December post before the first SH game, I noted that SH plays the way I think Ewing envisions his team. Tough, solid defense, physical, win the battle in the paint. To that point we hadn't taken on that identity, but over the last two months we really have. These teams are really similar in how they want to win.
- This isn't rocket science but two keys to us winning the last game vs. SH. We won the rebounding battle, and we got to the line more. Will need a repeat on both of those
- That being said, the formula is just going to have to be a little different than the last two days. When Obiagu is in the game, the focus can't be on forcing the ball into Q. We really need Pickett and Bile to step up. Pickett was superb in the win against them. And I still want to see Dante drive, even if he doesn't make the layup, Obiagu is a block chaser. As long as the ball gets on the rim, Q should be able to put it in
- I'm going to be very focused on Tyrese Samuel for SH. I really felt like we abused him last game. It's important we line up as much of Tim's time against Obiagu so Q is in to attack Samuel. Q went to work on him in the block. And when Samuel was in for Mamu, Pickett attacked him off the dribble. Don't let him hide anywhere
- Pickett will draw Mamu again, and it's really important we don't overhelp and let him create shots for others. Agree that we can win if he gets his, but we can't double or overhelp and let Cale suddenly start beating us. Bile draws the big responsibility w Rhoden. Can he avoid foul trouble and another tech? For all of the talk about Blair tech's leading to his benching, Bile is on a run here.
- Blair played 39 min in the win over SH. And he was pretty rough offensively but he absolutely shut down Cale. I like the way Carey is playing but this is a bit of a test for him.
My Marquette pre-game post talked about the path to Saturday night. It's right here, play loose and leave it all on the court. Hoya Saxa
I know everyone feels this way and I am piling on, but these posts are tremendous. Thank you for sharing.
