It's pretty funny that people are really jazzed about bringing in a guy who's currently coaching a team with a worse KenPom adjusted defense rating than ours. Maybe put down the KenPom subscription once in a while. Believe it or not, it is harder to coach defense at Cleveland State than it is at Georgetown

First off, I disagree with much more effective, but I don't want the guy who comes on this board solely to talk about Mac to get involved in this conversation. Not to mention Akinjo had the ball much more than Mac, but I digress. Also though, why would Mac get Q away from Georgetown? Why would he want to sabotage the program? C'mon man. If he goes to TTU I can see this theory popping up, but you are telling me that you think because Q liked a post from a former teammate that the teammate was in his ear and is trying to sabotage our program and current coach? Man you don't know what young people do? Yes of course they do. Of course they can try to persuade or dissuade other young people. They do it all the time! Just because he doesn't end up at Texas Tech doesn't mean Mac wasn't in his ear about transferring to a different program man. C'mon man don't be naïve! Now I hope that's not the case but you never know. Here is how the conversation could have gone: Q: You think I need to transfer to another program where I can focus on shooting jump shots and threes because I really want to go pro in a year or two? I mean the people on HoyaTalk keep saying that I'm messing up on defense and I am really hurting the team because all I do is rebound, score twos at a high clip and block shots. They say I will never make NBA because I'm not shooting threes like some of these other centers. Mac: Yeah man I understand what you're saying. That's the reason why I left Georgetown because people were saying that I would never make the NBA because I'm not a "real" point guard. Some on HoyaTalk said that I needed to go to the "Guru" Chris Beard and that he will make me a real point guard so that when I'm ready for the draft, I will get picked in the top ten. Q: Oh yeah? Mac: Yeah man cause I don't think Patrick can teach you how to shoot a three because after all didn't all he do was just dunk the basketball when he was at Georgetown? Q: Yep, you right. I'm transferring tomorrow. Mac: Bet! Yeah I would go out on a limb to say that 1. Players don't read HoyaTalk, nor should they 2. There's no reason for Q to talk to Mac about transferring for any reason 3. That's not how the transfer portal works and this clearly didn't blindside Coach 4. Weren't there like five pages in this thread about this being from his guardian? Because it seems more like that than anything else. 5. There's no reason for Mac to encourage Q to leave the program. Let's not go full conspiracy theory here

I'm sorry... what? Really? You heard me. Calipari and Coach K didn't even make the tournament this year. Self had a subpar team. Even with the best players money can buy, it's a new world out there now. That's an insane take. One bad year for them (Cal and K) missing the tournament tells you they can't adapt but three missed tournament years under Ewing tell you that he's now adapted. Really? So when they're sadly back in the tournament next year, will you admit this take was insane? You know because Duke has two top 10 guys going to their school, and Kentucky has three top 31 guys with one of the best transfers in Tshiebwe (also is this what you mean by adapting?), and Bill Self is an excellent basketball mind who had two of his best players just return from covid breaks before the tournament. The same team that was a three seed (also if this is subpar sign me up for subpar) and beat the second best team in the country (Baylor) handily. But Ewing has adapted better, after losing his star center? Come on man. There's still a ton of room for this team to grow if we use the portal well. This is not what I'm saying. But, adapted better than K, Cal and Self after one BET run, where we got drubbed in the tourney? Come on man. There's a ton of room for our team to grow still. Let's be realistic.

Because they were teammates and friends man. That's why. It's supporting someone who you liked. Guys do this all the time. This is nothing. Also I said "something like" because I was too lazy to find the post. Here it is. There's nothing here man. Also, you are the same guy who said to show Akinjo film to Dante. How are these two examples different? If anything wouldn't watching footage of former players be more insulting to a current guy than tapping a button on your phone to support a friend? Vs the staff showing our new PG film of their old PG, showing that A. they didn't move on and B. that they feel they downgraded? Isn't that worse? Sorry mtdt, I was busy with something else and that is why I am responding to you so late. So this is the post that Q liked? Okay, I will give you that. Here is my problem....and maybe I am wrong for this...I just don't understand how a guy can like or be friends with a guy that left my team high and dry. I don't know maybe I'm wrong for the way I think. As a fan, I like Mac but if I'm on that Hoya team, I ain't got no words for Mac. Didn't Mac say that he didn't like the environment at Georgetown? Some people said that Mac didn't even like some of his teammates. Again, maybe I might be wrong for the way I feel in that regards but I ain't feeling it. Far as I am concerned, Mac probably was in his ear the whole time. Again, Akinjo is different because Akinjo left because Mac was getting all the shine and to be honest, Akinjo was a much more effective player than Mac in my mind. I think Akinjo left because he was tired of coach trusting Mac to make the plays and not Akinjo. Again, I like both Mac and Akinjo but maybe Mac is in Q's ear. You never know. C'mon man. How is it a disaster when we were a better program for it? After all of the departures last year, people predicted the same doom and gloom. What happened? Again, Big East tournament Champs. NCAA appearance. Why? Ewing and his staff retooling the roster. Q was part of the recipe of our success this year. He wasn't the sole reason for our success nor was he the sole reason for our loss to Colorado. Bile was the MVP of our season. Dante was the MVP of the Big East tournament. Pickett and Blair also contributed. Same with Carey. Even Holloway in his brief amount of playing time. We are Georgetown. Not 1 player makes or breaks this program. This year was proof of it. Coach has shown the ability to adapt to whatever hand he is given (5 transfers due to the incident), COVID/new players and get the most out of them. I think this ability will be extra important in the new world order of free agent transfers (don't have to sit out a year), G League Select competition for prize recruits, COVID, etc, etc. He seems to be doing a much better job of adapting then Calipari, Coach K, Bill Self and the rest of the old guard.
I'm sorry... what? Really?

He liked a post from an old teammate. A dude who he was probably friends with. This says nothing. Does this really make you change your take? This post also probably said something like "Thanks Red Raider Nation for accepting me this season. Sorry the season didn't go perfect, but we will be back next year!" I mean that says nothing. Just supporting an old teammate and wishing the best for him. If that's toxic and poisonous, I don't know what to tell you. mdtd, see I was done with Q for today and I was just reading everyone else's comments in the feed. As I read, I see your comment to me about what I felt. I understand what you're reading into it, if what you're saying is true about what exactly Mac wrote to the Red Raider Nation. However, you don't even know what exactly was written by Mac because you said, "This post also probably said something like...". The fact that you don't know what Mac wrote but yet Mac wrote something that Q liked to me is a problem even if it is Mac showing gratitude to his new team's fans. First of all, if I were a teammate of Mac and he left my team high and dry, that's a problem. Then if I see him thanking his new fans, it's like a slap in my face and my team's fans face. Why in the hell does Q need to be "liking" that particular comment? I see if Mac wrote something like, "shout out to the Hoyas, my old team...they went far this year". That would make sense for Q to "like". Coupled with the fact that he's transferring and he likes a kid's post who just transferred just seems fishy. Because they were teammates and friends man. That's why. It's supporting someone who you liked. Guys do this all the time. This is nothing. Also I said "something like" because I was too lazy to find the post. Here it is. Yeah, I'm stunned by this. There were two kids that I thought were safe from transferring and Q was one of them. There isn't much else you could do to help him.
Coach developed him on the offensive end and we threw the ball to him a ton. He was a very turnover-prone player who forced shots, but he was also a very good back to the basket scorer for us. He wasn't perfect at all, but he was improving well. We ran our offense through him. I'm stunned.
His skillset isn't good for the NBA. A big who can't shoot jumpers, who doesn't move his feet well, and doesn't dish well is the exact build an NBA scout doesn't want. If he was the guy they wanted, believe me, they'd find him. He's a very good back to the basket scorer and interior presence. If he worked on his defensive footwork and foot speed (something Patrick Ewing knows with the best of them) he could be an NBA player. He gets the ball just about everytime down. There aren't many (if any) teams that would've given him all the touches we did. But in the end, I hope everything works out for him and he proves me wrong. Best of luck to him.
As for the Hoyas, I think we should look to go small ball or for someone who can space the floor. I don't think Tim is ready at all, and I think Ryan needs another year or so. Pickett and Bile as a small ball five could really work with next year's team. Beard, Aminu, and Riley are all slashers first. We get some shooters around them and that's a legit team. And a big who can shoot it and defend inside is ideal. Our defense needs to be better next year. It's still tourney or bust imo. There are options in the portal. Let's see who we can get.

Someone over on Casual was saying Q liked Mac's post after Texas Tech lost the other night. Wow! See this is what I'm talking about. This stuff is toxic and poisonous. Yeah, get rid of Q! Now I am feeling some type of way. He liked a post from an old teammate. A dude who he was probably friends with. This says nothing. Does this really make you change your take? Florida State runs a 6'9" PG man. They put their guards on Wright, their guards are just huge. They didn't put their center on him. And Q can't guard these guys. He's not quick enough. mdtd, did you watch the game? They put their big men on him all night. They switch everything and have athletes at every position. They do not put a center on him all game. That's not true. His main defender was big because they are a huge team. Is this the first time you've seen FSU?

I just think the Hoyas and coaching staff could learn from having the center guard the guard out at the perimeter because it would cut down his driving lanes and probably his passing lanes. It's like having your center hedge way ahead of time before the guard gets downfield. Florida State runs a 6'9" PG man. They put their guards on Wright, their guards are just huge. They didn't put their center on him. And Q can't guard these guys. He's not quick enough.

Ok, so there have been three pretty long and detailed posts and all have beat me to it. But, I think the key matchup is Dante vs McKinely Wright.
Battey will use the pump fake well. Just don't bite here. He's a crafty player and will know how to beat our bigs. If we stay tall, we can contain him. The Pac-12 doesn't have great five men this year. Mobley is going to be a great pro, but he's more of a four at that level. We can beat them inside.
And on that matchup, much like Zegarowski, Wright will get his. He's not the shooter Zegarowski is, but he does just about everything a little better. He's so skilled. He's a very smart player, but he's one Dante can guard. If Dante can stick in front of him, it would be very tough for their offense to get good shots. Let him get his, don't let anyone else get going. Dante can contain him, just don't let anyone else get hot.
Jeriah Horne was a potential Pac-12 sixth man of the year candidate, but he started too many games because of injuries. He's a really good player, but he doesn't do anything particularly special. All of their wings can shoot it well, but if we limit Wright's ability to create, they don't have a ton of guys who can get their own looks.
Lastly, I think the slower pace always benefits the lower-seeded team. A slower pace equals more variance, allowing the lower-seeded teams to stay in games longer. In this game though, I think e can speed them up also and have some success. They won't turn the ball over much, but if we can apply pressure to their non-McKinely Wright players, they will make some mistakes and we can generate points this way. A lot like how Dante did to Canfield, except with everyone else. Our defense has been smothering recently. If that continues, we can take this one. Just don't let their shooters get it going.

Wow. I wish I would have bet just $10. I would guess someone thought to toss a little change on the ole roulette table...lol I recommended this on Wednesday before tourney started. I did both Gtown and Marquette at 60-1. Hedged a little on SH and Creighton but plenty of profit to spare. I'll be donating half to the Hoya Hoop Club at some point. Same here. I think I said something like "if you think we can beat Marquette this is great value" and then proceeded to take us to beat Marquette and to win the BET.

Are you folks serious? Do you really think ONE play changed the game? Folks, They got drubbed by 25 points and it wasn't that close. Total domination. Ok, yep very fair. I didn't phrase it properly. I think the Carey three is the play that gave us momentum that we took on to led to the W. I think it was the momentum switch where we never looked back.

Give me USC. Right the wrong with Enfield and I like how Pickett matches up with Mobley. Mobley is so good and will score all over us regardless, but I think Pickett is a good matchup here and I think we have a good spot on everyone else. Plus I will be able to see highlights of the FGCU game and know we got them back. That's my ideal matchup.

This game was just awesome. I'm still on my high horse. What a game.
The defense was absolutely smothering. There was nothing Creighton could do. This is exactly why I always harped on the defense. When it is this good, you can beat anybody on any night. That's the best defensive performance we've seen under Coach and it's not close. Coach has got us dancing baby!!!!! Dante Harris is a star. We did it.
Hoya MFing Saxa
EDIT: Oh, one more thing. The play that changed everything imo is when Carey pulled from deeeeeeep three point range and drilled it. Dante on Canfield was massive, but this play was sooo big. It showed the confidence went everywhere and not just with Dante. I think this play changed the game.

Massive game. One more Hoyas. One more. And we can dance.
Q's defense is going to be key in this one. They will try to take advantage of him. He has to be smart in drop coverage and force Bishop to shoot it from deep. If he beats you like that, they earned it. Q has to be smart inside and there probably won't be a ton of help.
Whatever we do, DONT LEAVE BALLOCK. The last thing we need is him catching fire. Stick with him at all times. Zegarowski is too good not to get his, and I trust Dante to contain him, but don't let Ballock beat you from deep.
I think the biggest matchup on both ends will be Bile vs Jefferson. Both guys are their team's engines. Their energy goes as far as those guys take them. We have to keep Jefferson off the glass and we can't let him create so easily. These guys pretty much want to do the exact same thing. Both are absolutely vital to their teams. Whoever wins this matchup will be in a big spot. If there's ever been a time for Bile to prove how much better he is than all of us thought he was, now is the time. Tired legs, slower movement, wanting to save energy and conserve a step or two, this is the time for Bile to step up and show that he ain't ever slowing down and to take it straight to Creighton.
Against this team, we have to finish strong. Go to the bucket with force and finish strong. Bishop and Kalkbrenner are guys you can beat inside if you finish strong. If you don't, it leads to a run-out, and a three-ball is going up. Finish strong and we can score and limit their easy opportunities.
We can score on these guys. We can beat them off the dribble and we can score inside on them. Q can score on his matchup. Blair will get his. Jamorko will get his. Dante will do what Dante does. It has to come together. Leave everything out there. Don't give an inch. Take it straight to them. One more baby. One more. Close them out. Hoya Saxa

This is the Jamorko game. He was stellar today. Absolutely stellar. His defense on Mamu was just perfect and he was massive offensively. What a game from him.
Bile was really having a rough game, but then he just catches the ball, drives past Cale, and somehow finishes the and one which was probably the most important field goal of the season. What an excellent take and way to bring the energy needed. The team was low on energy and Bile brought exactly what we needed. Oh yeah and that bucket put as ahead for good.
I never understood why someone couldn't see star potential in Dante, but now he has shown everyone he has it all and then some. Man, he was excellent today. Took exactly what the defense gave him and didn't give an inch defensively.
And the defense. My goodness, it was absolutely swarming. It was everywhere. There was nothing Seton Hall could do. What a performance on this end. It was perfect. The guys have all bought in defensively and the scheme is so much better. Credit to absolutely everyone, it's been awesome to watch. Please continue this.
We're winning games without hitting 14 threes, without big games from Blair and Q... if you would've told me this in December, I would've called you absolutely insane. Let alone BET games. What a turnaround.
ONE MORE COME ON!!!!!!! HOYA SAXA!!!!!

One of my favorite nights of the year. Nothing quite like Big East Semis Friday night at the Garden when the Hoyas are playing - Looking back at my December post before the first SH game, I noted that SH plays the way I think Ewing envisions his team. Tough, solid defense, physical, win the battle in the paint. To that point we hadn't taken on that identity, but over the last two months we really have. These teams are really similar in how they want to win.
- This isn't rocket science but two keys to us winning the last game vs. SH. We won the rebounding battle, and we got to the line more. Will need a repeat on both of those
- That being said, the formula is just going to have to be a little different than the last two days. When Obiagu is in the game, the focus can't be on forcing the ball into Q. We really need Pickett and Bile to step up. Pickett was superb in the win against them. And I still want to see Dante drive, even if he doesn't make the layup, Obiagu is a block chaser. As long as the ball gets on the rim, Q should be able to put it in
- I'm going to be very focused on Tyrese Samuel for SH. I really felt like we abused him last game. It's important we line up as much of Tim's time against Obiagu so Q is in to attack Samuel. Q went to work on him in the block. And when Samuel was in for Mamu, Pickett attacked him off the dribble. Don't let him hide anywhere
- Pickett will draw Mamu again, and it's really important we don't overhelp and let him create shots for others. Agree that we can win if he gets his, but we can't double or overhelp and let Cale suddenly start beating us. Bile draws the big responsibility w Rhoden. Can he avoid foul trouble and another tech? For all of the talk about Blair tech's leading to his benching, Bile is on a run here.
- Blair played 39 min in the win over SH. And he was pretty rough offensively but he absolutely shut down Cale. I like the way Carey is playing but this is a bit of a test for him.
My Marquette pre-game post talked about the path to Saturday night. It's right here, play loose and leave it all on the court. Hoya Saxa
I agree with just about everything here. This is a game where you leave Pickett on Mamu and don't let anyone else get going. Pickett can matchup with Mamu and if we don't let Rhoden or Cale get hot, this game is very winnable. Though, in these game we do throw it into Q a ton and he typically doesn't have success against Obiagu early. Someone else will have to jump start our offense. I'm not really sure who. Bile and Pickett need to be on today. We're going to have to play very smart and the ball needs to move. Seton Hall switches just about everything 1-4 and we can have a mismatch with Dante's speed and the size and strength inside of Pickett and Bile. The dish will be open to Q, or for a shot. We just have to be smart about what opportunities we take. But if the ball moves effectively, we can take them. If we play selfish, this game will get ugly early. Everybody will have to move the ball. They probably will leave Q on an island with Obiagu, and he's going to have to play well and play smart. But if we could play him off the floor with our small ball lineup when Q isn't in, this could create real trouble for their defense. This game is winnable. One game at a time. Leave it all out there. Go Hoyas.

This game was all Dante. Dante was our best player and man was he great.
Q also played a very good game offensively. Defensively they attacked him a lot, but he more than made up for it on offense. Pretty solid performance from him.
And our defense looked so much better. If Q and Tim didn't bite on every single pump fake, we might have won this game by 15. There's always room to improve, but this W was absolutely massive. When we can win a game with Bile and Pickett playing bad games, we should take that every time. Let's hope those two step it up today.

Yeah, this kid has star potential written all over him. He's just got everything you need out of a PG. It took him some time, but it was great to see him get that time and to learn. Crouch has done an awesome job developing him and Dante will be a force in this league for years to come. He's just so skilled and was awesome yesterday.
