I really wish that list included Brumbaugh. I think letting him leave was a huge mistake. I believe Rowan saw the writing on the wall….and yes, we did lallow him to walk. He will be an incredible mid-major player and get paid good money to do so. Was too much of a defensive liability at this level. He’s talking to schools like UCSB right now where he would crush it. I'm sure you're right, but I just really liked him and think he could have carved out a role coming off the bench on a good team.

Love that Epps, Cook, Dontrez and Fielder are staying put. You replace Bristol, Heath and Ish with upgrades plus add a solid freshman class…we will be a much better team. I really wish that list included Brumbaugh. I think letting him leave was a huge mistake.

Georgetown: “I was recently on an official visit there. It went well. They showed me around the campus. They should me how their players live and stuff. It was nice. It was a nice, beautiful campus. They can help academically too. It’s a very smart school. Coach (Ed) Cooley is a great coach. I like how he uses his bigs. His assistants are great people, great people to talk to.” Miami: “They are a great program. One of my old coaches is there (DJ Irving) so I have a relationship with the staff.” Providence: “They’ve just been trying to build a great relationship with me. The staff has been recruiting me since they were at George Mason. They are trying to get me there badly.” Villanova: “Nova is a great college near home for both basketball and academics. Growing up I was a big Nova fan, even before Jenkins hit the buzzer beater vs. UNC in the chip game.” Sorber also has a loose timeline for a commitment. “I plan to make my decision around September or October,” he says. www.on3.com/news/thomas-sorber-down-to-4-schools-georgetown-miami-providence-villanova/Seeing as he has only visited us and Nova. Gotta think it's between those 2 schools. I don't think it's wise to count on Miami if they are in any kid's final group. Really hope we can pull Sorber

"7. Four-star C Patrick Ngongba – Team Takeover The rebounding is what you take away with Patrick Ngongba. He has a strong frame, with long arms and good size. But he tracks the basketball as well as anyone else in the gym. Ngongba comes from a basketball family, as his mom starred at George Washington. He came into the final day leading the Nike EYBL session in rebounding. He has strong hands and does his work early in the possession. Ngongba also did a good job carving out space on the offensive end, finishing with both hands and absorbing contact. He’s taken a lone official visit to Kansas State. Jerome Tang and multiple assistants were at his games this weekend." www.on3.com/news/nike-eybl-session-one-top-performers-day-3/These are the types of recruits I really want to see Cooley and Co. get. The idea Georgetown can "put up a wall" around the WCAC and the area and get every 5 star kid is silly, but a local 4 star guy who is considering Iowa and Kansas State has to be the type of recruiting battle we can win.

Wanted to pass this along from his head coach at Rhode Island Elite Nick Light -- the person closest to the situation outside of Miranda himself -- about whether or not he plans to enter the portal. “No, he’s not entering the portal at all. We’re 100 percent committed to the Wolfpack moving forward. Keatts and his guys, they’re building a great team through the portal right now and Isaiah feels he got a lot better this year. … We give a lot of credit to Keatts and Joel and those guys over there. We’re ready to go.” -- NC State 247sports insider.

Yeah, I wouldn't be excited over Hicks. Is he different than Bristol? Solid, role playing stretch 4 off the bench. I really don't see the fit. Of course this team will need a starting PG and a star or two (Dickinson) to really be competitive, but wing depth is something that really stands out when it comes to teams able to make runs in March. We have plenty of scholarships available and it's not realistic that we are going to get seven of the top 25 guys out of the portal. A guy like Hicks has played a ton of college basketball and if he is comfortable coming off the bench, he would be a great addition to a thin roster.

Same HS as Dual and Fielder, does not look like he was really connected to providence though in his recruitment though.

Surround him with shooters and he would be dangerous I would take Posh for his defense alone. I'm really surprised that he's leaving StJs. Unless Pitino didn't want him....and Pitino recruited Storr when he was at Iona so I'm even more surprised that he is leaving. It is odd that Saint John's has good players leaving after the Pitino hire. We have bad players leaving most likely after being told to leave which makes sense, I can't imagine Pitino told Storr or Posh to look elsewhere

Interesting to me that Cooley hasn't brought any former Providence players with him yet. Bynum seems like an obvious 1-year transition PG, but I take it Cooley has his sights set a little higher which is great.

He was processed out at VT, the staff didn't think he was going to be able to contribute next season. Wouldn't hate adding him as our 12th guy if he is willing to sit on the bench and develop, but I think he will end up going down to a mid-major to get PT. In this modern game, we'll probably have a chance at him again in three years when he's a finished product. Interesting to wonder if this means anything about VaTech’s Mike Jones potentially being on the move closer to home too. Probably not but as long as we are on a coaching roll… Haven't heard anything about him leaving. The VT fans were nervous we would hire him as our HC, but that was never realistic.

Fair enough, I can't say I have seen him play so I am not against him personally, I am just optimistic that we will be involved with some higher major transfers. I am sure Jarvis would be an improvement to our current group; On3 has him ranked as the 40th best player in the portal to date, that's certainly someone worth our attention right now. Doesnt that take into account name brand and marketability? Not in their rankings, they assign a random "NIL value" number that they pull out of thin air on guys, but I don't think it impacts the rankings. I don't see Jarvis listed on 247's portal rankings top 50, but they may just not have him updated on their list.

Yeah, not a bad player by any means. But a role player from an Ivy is not going to move the needle much here. Maybe the last few seasons he would be a top target, but he should be option 10 for Cooley and Co. He wasn't a role player at Yale, I meant here. You quote stats but those numbers are in 23 mins a game cause Yale plays alot of people. No one avergaes more than 29 mins on their whole team. Decent option, but I hope we can do better than a guy who averaged 11 and 5 as a junior in the Ivy league. Look at his shooting stats. He is a great role player and athletic plus is from here Yeah, not a bad player by any means. But a role player from an Ivy is not going to move the needle much here. The attention - albeit negative - this hiring is getting from Portnoy and Barstool is making it arguably more visible and “buzzy” than Pitino to St. John’s. Actually, it’s probably not even arguable. We are once again cast as the villain and hated by most of the Barstool army, which numbers in the hundreds of thousands and possible millions, nearly all of whom are in the key demographic for sports fans. It’s insane to imagine the hatred being worked up toward a team that has won only 2 conference games in 2 years. And it’s great. Portnoy is giving us a huge boost in brand value at a much needed time. Being the villain is when we’ve traditionally done our best work. Bring it. Yeah it's really awesome that Georgetown is being portrayed as a big bad villain. Let's have everyone in the country think that and not remember the on-court product the last several seasons...

I do not think that hiring a quick fix like Pitino, Mack, Brey, Beard, Beilein or James Jones is likely or makes long term sense. These guys are all old or deeply troubled (Beard, Mack). The way to think about this hire is to look at the programs who have made the best hires over the last several years and what was the formula. If you look at Nate Oats, Brad Underwood, Dennis Gates, Steve Pikiell, they were all huge winners at their prior stops. They were ascending talents who won big. Same with home runs from the past, Bill Self, Tony Bennet, John Calipari, Bruce Pearl. They didn't just improve their program or gradually start to win or occasionally have good seasons. They won big and early and consistently at each stop. I think the actual quick fix and long term solution are the same. We need to hire a previously hugely successful coach looking to take the next step up. These are the guys I see. Some of these guys are listed on prior lists and some have never been mentioned. But I think this is the list (in no particular order) we should focus on for the highest chance at success. Pat Kelsey Casey Alexander Ryan Odom Grant McCasland Matt Langel John Becker Scott Nagy Niko Medved (before this year) Darian DeVries Craig Smith Russ Turner Kyle Keller Robert Jones The other guys are rejects or has beens. Let me know if you have additions to this list or thoughts on any of these guys. I am sure some of them would not be interested in our opening, either geographically or because they have other jobs in mind. But we need to take the Oats, Gates formula and find the next big hire. One other aspect of this route that I like more given the transfer portal is that you can model a "quick rebuild" the way Missouri did it this year with Gates. Take a guy with a team that wins 20+ games at a mid-major and 2-3 of his best guys will most likely follow as grad transfers or even regular transfers. Missouri is hodgepodge of Cleveland State and other Horizon league transfers to act as a 1 year band-aid while Gates recruits HS. I don't want to be a revolving door program with five transfers coming and going every year, but a quick infusion of guys with familiarity with our new coach would smoothen the transition and get us back to competitive basketball next year.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I really hope he plays for us next year. Does Akok have another year of eligibility? I love his game and think he is exactly the type of player that will help a new coach transition. I would be thrilled to get another year with him.
