Well that scholarship crunch for next year eased up. We just need the core left to put together an NCAA campaign, not get hurt, not get in foul trouble, and back fill in the spring with minutes to spare for 20/21.

Maybe a tourney run changes the narrative a bit. That is paramount.

Generic concessions are busted and you can expect long lines and little service. It is the double kick in the nads to playing at Cap One. There is a Ben's near section 100 that hasn't been open this year. There is a fry place around the bend that hasn't been open all year. There used to be a chicka filla keosk behind the student section but I haven't seen that open this year. All in all the new scoreboard, seats and lighting get a big thumbs up and the rest of it gets the middle finger.

Frankly the roster has right sized a bit with the two players moving on. Based on the volume of transfers the last five years, we probably were running under the average as Carter is the one I can think of prior to this year under Ewing. Those removed due to issues like Walker/Sodom I am not counting. Hopefully Tim & Malcolm viewed themselves as project four year players in which case I think we are good if Gardner & Alexander are exonerated.
In JTIII's initial classes, we had a lot of turnover as some kids moved on quickly. Guibunda, Spann, Thornton, Egerson were all kind of reaches and not recruits the coach got a ton of time to spend recruiting. Ewing's first class of Blair, Pickett means he is at 50% attrition in the group with two kids being removed. His next class was a four person class as well and he is down to one there so 75% attrition. That stinks but hopefully is an outlier with what transpired with Leblanc and Akinjo just not agreeing with his role. The current class with Gardner & 3 bigs is interesting and we will see how that plays out but if it is like most college basketball, the odds are one of this kids or more won't go four years. It is a sad state of affairs but I don't think coaches can expect 3 to 4 years out of most kids they recruit and it is why the timeline is always "NOW" for success.

If Yurt can start connecting on his five footers he will average 6 to 8 more points a game. I think that is a matter of when, not if.

This crap is getting weird. I bet if you took a poll of this board (or generally of tuned in Hoya fans) before the transfer was announced, 75% would say they valued Akinjo over Mac. I guess there was something else boiling under the surface between James and Mac--and if that's true its a serious shame. Had those two committed to working together, I believe they could have become an excellent back court for the Hoyas. If James is smart (big IF), he will tell his "aunt" and "uncle" to delete these tweets and go silent - there is no upside to him with these things. I won't be surprised if he ends up at a high major and plays well his last two seasons. Some coach will take him on despite his flaws and the story will be that you can't blame Akinjo for fleeing a sinking ship. Man, James family sounds like the Quinerly's. We didn't like the big east freshman of the year? We didn't like the Big East assist leader? How can the guy leading in minutes & on-ball time not be a key cog in the TEAM? I think the main thing Georgetown fans like is W's. I'ld take a UVA approach and win games 6-2 if it ended up in W's.

On a positive, with the excessively quick news cycle we are essentially out of it at this point outside of the few diehard fans around the program.

I am to blame. I am a cancerous growth on all of my favorite teams. First it was the Malice in the Palace for my Pacers who were championship caliber as I watched in slow mo the destruction of a franchise. Then it was Hank Baskett and his muffed handling of an onside kick for my beloved Colts. Then a serial rapist at Penn State ruined my love for the school my father went to and I grew up a childhood fan of in football. Next Andrew Luck made the sensible decision for his health only to forget about my fandom as the Colts suffered yet another "what if". Finally it is the Hoyas my alma mater that has crushed my soul as an 18 year season ticket holder and eternal optimist. Now that I have millenialled the crap out of this and made it all about me, you can go back to your regular Hoya rantings.

I will be absolutely stunned if Williams ends up in a Hoyas uniform. Hope I'm wrong, but the smoke is pretty strong on this one... Oregon hoyaboya? Can't think of much yellow kicks dominant teams. I agree with you but hope we can keep what is in place as we would be a grad transfer guard away from respectability with the pieces we have and the class coming.

Mac & Yurt are our offense now. I would run zone to keep Yurt out of foul trouble and tell each of them to get up 15 shots minimum per game.

Isn't coach Orr there for the non-basketball stuff? I thought that was the rationale. Maybe there is a sacrificial lamb here to offer up as cynical as that sounds.

This is shaping up to be a pretty smart class if this kid comes. A guard who gets a year or two to learn while filling in. Two forwards who have distinct skills that can get minutes right away but also back fill strongly in year two once Jamorko & possibly Josh move on. You have a young center with two others developing behind him currently. We have a combo forward/guard in Gardner who I see being a killer for us next year and beyond.
I know we have missed on the Stewart's, Cockburns, Bakers, Jones bigs as well as on RJ Davis but I really like how coach is back-filling with kids who fit his mold. I think in college, this is how you win. Eventually we will sprinkle in a higher touted recruit or two but frankly look at Shaka Smart. That doesn't always work out for you if the Turner, Allen type big moves on before they really contribute much to your program. I have also had this debate with Duke, Kansas & Kentucky fans. I would rather cheer for kids who are actually on campus for more than a cup of coffee as they pass thru. These kids will value GU more and we will value them more if they get that degree or in the case of an Otto of Jeff Green, excel and come back to get that degree.

Yurt7 needs to use his experience and take it to the youngin’! This is a chance for Yurt to prove himself against a lotto pick. The key will be not to overdo it. Pass out of the double. Reset if need be. And don't do the silly fouls. This is a chance for Akinjo to prove his worth against a first rounder in Jones. He will always be called too small so let's see if he can play within himself and lead like last night. This is a chance for Mac to go against another leaper in Stanley. Play within himself and look to dish at times. The one 3-1 fast break last night was painful when Mac tried to do it all himself. That was my only criticism of him last night which is really good. For the rest of our squad, this is a chance to prove that the whole is more important than the individual parts. These guys are a also playing with a lot of new parts so it is an ideal time to match up and see where we are at.

The Kai Jones kid had one nice dunk and a whole lot of nothing else. You need bigs that will play for 2 to 3 years. A lot of these guys move on too quickly so the 5 star doesn't really help the college program that lands them. The Baker kid looks more like a 3 year player though.

For all the dumping on Blair I bet he single handedly wins us a game this year. I see a Tre Campbell Xavier game (W), a Reggie Cameron Xavier game (L), or a Malinowski Butler game (W) at some point. Kid just needs to pick his spots and figure it out.

You folks are watching different games than I am when you see the bench kill momentum. I see our depth wearing down teams. And I see the starters making plenty of mistakes in their own right. Hoyalove, I was at the game and told my daughter when we were up 19-11 to watch the score. That is when we subbed in our 2nd line and promptly gave up and 18-2 run. Most of that was against the 2nd unit. The subbing works, but not en masse the way we are doing it. I also think that outside of zone teams Blair probably doesn't get a lot of run. The pairing of Allen, Blair, LeBlanc, Wahab & Alexander is offensively deficient and I am hoping coach gets that now. The luxury of the bench is that foul trouble shouldn't kill us. A single injury shouldn't kill us. But if all are healthy, someone in the Blair, Allen, Gardner, Wahab, Alexander group probably isn't going to be happy with the minutes they get in a given game. If Mac or Mosely are struggling, we now have an answer off the bench and that is how I would use the bench. One other observation, Alexander is getting yelled at a lot from the bench for being out of place. It happened last night too. I need more Gardner too.

I think we are a few player tweaks away from being competent. We are a few coaching adjustments away from being average. We have the talent & pieces. That is all I have.

Gardner needs minutes and so does Josh. The ballhandling & energy last night were horrific. The only excuse I can find is the arena was frigid and Cap One needs to turn up the heat. It wasn't even comfortable sitting in the 100's without a coat. Our offense seems to be little more than ball screen or get it down low to Yurt. There has to be more creativity than that and frankly I put that on coach. The mass subs and in particular that 2nd unit is helpless. Allen & Blair aren't going to create shots in that unit (blair needs it created for him) and Wahab shouldn't have offense run through him at this stage. That leaves Josh & Alexander and those two also aren't creating shots. The 2nd unit is a mess and the line-up changes to spur some offense need to be revisited.
Frankly I'ld put in Josh with the first unit and put Mac on the 2nd unit. I would probably pull Blair for now accept against zone teams. I might even put Jamarko on the 2nd unit as him & Mac I trust their offense more than anyone on the 2nd. If you are running the offense through Yurt in the 1st unit, what's the point of the other offense out there. Coach has got to do some soul searching as the talent is there.

Oh no. Any time a player isn't 100% you can't like it. We should have been inking big time players 3 years in and we are currently looking at our 2nd & 3rd options. Terrance seemed to be a primary option. Last year it was the bigs with us missing on the kid that went to Washington, then the kid that went to Louisville & the other to West Virginia. I like Wahab long term and the other two seem like smart projects but damn, this is getting tired.
