If this is true, there is no goal other than self serving hypocrisy and mediocrity.

Cooley is a solid hire in isolation. High floor, likely can do better at GTown….but, of all the reasonable candidates he looks like the closest to “family”. If Cooley comes in but the general ethos of the program does not change and the Thompson Parasite Gang remains, it won’t end well. Pitino made it clear he was interested at GTown, but at this point it is obvious that SJU really wants him and Jack DeGioia does not. Being wanted matters. Under those circumstances, even if GTown expressed interest, he isn’t going to come. Maybe he would have picked them anyway, but it’s clear we didn’t even give him that choice. Based on the evidence we have, Jack simply lacks the ambition of his BIg East peer schools. The scary thing is that if Cooley decides to stay at Provy, the options after that are a huge step down. I agree, after Cooley most other options have a lower floor, which after what we’ve all suffered through w Ewing is a bad thing. But I’m not convinced the other options have a lower ceiling. Which is best for us is hard to say…that’s why the sure thing of pitino would’ve been great. In any event….we will at least have a real basketball coach again.

If we really had a shot at Pitino, losing him to St John’s is super disappointing. He should have them in the top 4 or 5 of the conference and in the ncaa tournament immediately. Unfortunately even solid choices like Cooley will be hard pressed to get us back to anything other than “ in the bubble conversation “ next yr, in my opinion.

A strong 5 year stint would be fine by me. A young , up and comer after 5 good years could easily move on to one of the Big money, Power teams anyway. If Pitino turns us into a perennial tourney team, he 'd likely hand it over to a solid coach. Execs staying 5 years is by no means short, in any industry, btw, nowadays. And Those of us in the headhunting world are glad of it!

The biggest shame of Patrick's time coaching was the complete failure to develop young players. Agree 1000 pct.

Did Korn Ferry do something wrong last time? I know nothing about either company, but from everything I've read the search went horribly wrong last time because of DeGioia and JT Jr and not because of something Korn Ferry did. I have no idea about the last search. Turnkey.zrg is a specialist in sports and entertainment management searches. Just my opinion but not sure this is Korn Ferry sweet spot and potentially the last go around the process was pre-cooked. Doubt this is the case this go around. I'm in the executive search industry and agree with you.

This is the best news I’ve received as a Hoya fan since the news that Ewing was coming to play for Georgetown. Ironic but true.

Can't say I am interested in watching six transfers play 38 minutes, run out of gas and lose. Think I have seen that a few times, already.

Pitino is a short term fix...but it is also the surest short term fix out there. There is no better choice ( of anyone who would come here.) He will have us in serious March Madness conversation by next year, and Top 25 for at least a year or two after. From there...onward and upward.

I will not watch any more games coached by Ewing. It’s actually so unfair for the kids to have to experience this. It’s not just the ineptitude of the Xs and Os. It’s his refusal to give the starters rest they need to be their best, or give younger players any opportunities. I truly think he cares not one bit about the players. It’s just about his ego and his checkbook.

I’ve never seen a coach continue to play his starters down 40 in the final 7 mins. Shameful. The bench kids I’m sure work hard and deserve a few minutes. Further it’s not even fair to allow the starters to continue to be humiliated. Ewing is not just a horrid coach, but a guy only about himself. Not the players.

Entire starting lineup needs to be benched for second half.

Wilson over Mutombo?. ? SMH. I’d be willing to bet Ryan can coach better than Ewing
