Don’t get me wrong, I like Peavy, I just think if there’s only so much money, not the biggest are of need. We need 2 more guards. I more PF Peavy is far from a game changer. Agree he’s a decent enough player.

I attended some of the ACAc tournament at Cap One last week. ( business obligation). Saw Primo against Carolina. Honestly he didn’t look much worse than their star guard RJ Davis in that particular game.

Some good offensive performances by most of the starters. But X hit only 4 3s and scores 98 is amazing. We knew they couldn’t make an outside shot and still gave up at least 15 easy layups or dunks.

Bluegray79, Im often in agreement with your posts. However, I’m sorry to say , in my opinion it is VERY ACCURATE to say we suck, aren’t improved this year and the season IS a bust.

I know Cooley has been a good to very good college coach for several years. But even with the challenges of overcoming such a poor team with few remaining players, I can’t think of a single good thing to say about his job this season. We’ve all seen teams with lesser talent that establish some type of identity, even if it doesn’t end up with lots of victories. Hard nosed defense that makes opposing offenses at least sweat a bit. Or a desire and hunger to block out and rebound. Or less talented teams that maybe shoot the three well…or can pass, even if shooters miss open looks.
I have no clue what identity or culture Cooley has tried to create with this team. I know he’s a much better coach than Ewing….but only based on his career record. It’s impossible to watch this team, and conclude it’s any better coached than Ewing teams,

I don’t care how many points he scored tonight, I would be very happy not to have Epps on the team next season. I’m Not a big Epps fan…but credit is due tonight. He played well.

Is five pages a record HT low for a Villanova game?

At this point, 40 minutes of sustained effort, team wide, with some coherent scheme will be welcome. Has that happened since the run in the BE tourney 4 yrs ago?

How about if Dante Harris was our PG? I don't know if Cooley tried to keep him but I believe he'd be an upgrade for our current situation. I won't say "way better" but only "better"! Dante Harris' numbers at Virginia: MPG: 18.2 FG: 10-36 (.278) 3FG: 2-10 (.200) FT: 8-15 (.533) REB: 21 AST: 15 TO: 8 STL: 7 PTS: 30 (3.3) Tonight vs. NC State: 19 min., 0-5 FG virginiasports.com/boxscore/vs-nc-state-111/sadly, he’d be our best point guard.

Yes they were 2-18 last yr under Ewing. But this is basically a completely new team assembled by Cooley. ( as was last years team by Ewing). I wasn’t expecting a great team, but the results may be the same as Ewing….the worst coach ever. That is disappointing.

Understood. I’m not sure what “ final product” means. Just saying I’d feel we are in a solid place if we make the tournament in yr 3. Right now, I truly have no idea if we’re moving in the right direction……the bits and pieces of good basketball that seem to excite others , are not enough to convince me of anything.
Be in the NIT next yr, and NCAA the yr after, and then I’m fully on Cooley bandwagon. Just my uneducated opinion.

If we’re not in the NCAa tournament in yr 3, it’s very fair to be unhappy with Cooley.

I wish I could see some of these rays of hope others observe here. I know Cooley has been a solid BE coach for many years. But I just don’t see anything good going on out there on a remotely consistent basis. Obviously these are BE players, and thus they will have moments where they shoot, pass or defend well. But no one on this team is consistently good at anything, unless we’re to be impressed with Epps volume shooting and volume turnovers..
I can’t imagine that were as poorly coached as in the past few years, not possible. But the offense has lots of dribbling without creating easy shots, and the defense is not remotely disruptive. I know….have faith in the Cooley system. Hey, Im glad Pat is gone. Maybe next year we’ll actually have watchable basketball again. Ok… sorry…rant is over.

Who on our team right now ( not in two yrs) could start for a Top 40/50 team? I say no one. That doesn’t bode well for our chances at winning more than 2 or 3 BE games.

I’m not at all convinced we’re better than the past two years. We are clearly better coached. It isn't even close. Not happy with every game as a nail biter but I don't see how someone can watch and think otherwise. This season will be difficult. Let's see how things go next year - and that means keeping players from this year's team as well. I agree we are better coached. But I’ve seen nothing on the court to convince me we win more than two big east games.
