No one is stating the obvious: Coppin isn't a bad team. The Hoyas struggled in their first game against a team that was hitting their shots. Some of those shots were well behind the three point line. A lot of those shots were in transition. Still some came on 'penetration and dish'. But Coppin executed their game-plan well. These are players that play against each other all the time, so Coppin had no reason to be intimidated by the name on the front of the jersey. Coppin has a history of going to larger programs' campuses and performing well, and winning some of those games. Most HBCU's are going to have low rankings because 3/4ths of the conference just isn't very good. But those top two or three teams, they're usually pretty decent. Not top-tier good, but they have pretty decent ball clubs.
The fact that the Hoyas struggled with Coppin is not surprising because I attended a MEAC school. And while they had Fang Mitchell, there were many big schools that questioned why they scheduled them.
Maybe the Hoyas are trash, maybe Ewing is trash. Or maybe this Hoyas team, filled with new players, struggled with a solid ball club that was knocking down shots.
I'd like to see this team with a few more games under its belt and playing at full strength before I pass judgement.

Give credit where credit is due. Coppin came to play! Last year’s Hoya team easily loses that game.
These are not your mother and father’s HBCU’s. Talent is a lot more evenly distributed. And by the looks of the South Carolina vs South Carolina State score, and the UVa/NCCU game, the MEAC will have some pretty good teams this year.
Anyway…back to your bellyaching…

The Wave added Georgetown transfer Collin Holloway, former Minnesota and Oregon State contributor Tre’ Williams and promising freshman Percy Daniels to its returning core. Holloway, a 6-foot-6 forward who attended Port Allen High, averaged 14 points in two games during Tulane’s August trip to Costa Rica and figures to be the fifth starter, joining the big three and junior guard Sion James, who is an outstanding defender. “He’s physical,” Forbes said of Holloway. “He plays really tough. For him to be undersized, he plays kind of big. Collin will be huge for us.” www.nola.com/sports/tulane/article_97541a4c-4439-11ed-9772-f71ee607d1f0.html I was sad to see him go. And I wish him well.

LOL! It was 'mess'. It's a positive thing, but I probably wouldn't have used it in a formal interview.

Let’s just get to October without any dismissals from the team for behavior unbecoming of a Hoya.

Congrats to him! I felt like he played hard while he was a Hoya and I wish him well on his journey!

I appreciate the experience Malcolm Wilson is getting. It will serve us well. Baby Dikembe is going to have to get ‘meaner’, but he’s progressing. We’ve got to get hungrier on the glass on both sides. Not a terrible outing by the young Hoyas, but we have to find a way to win those types of games.

I doubt Dikembe is still measuring at 7’2”. Gravity and the years…

Just about every G'Town game is on national television. Why would I want to hop on the metro to eat overpriced snacks at the coliseum?
If you want the students to go, you need an on-campus facility. Or you're going to have to start winning a lot more games.

Just came across a reminder of Kobe, after he retired, saying "It's a good thing Allen Iverson wasn't 6'5", or it would have been all over for the league. Pack up and go home". Kobe was never a guy to give compliments to opposing players. There are so many "what-ifs?" surrounding Iverson's game. What if he were a better ball handler? What if he were a good shooter? It's like the Lord knew that if he were to give him these things, it wouldn't be fair.

It took us awhile before the defense started "clicking" last year and it was sooooooo frustrating. I hope the process doesn't take as long this year, but losing Qudus definitely won't help.

I've been waiting a few years for them to play that type of defense!

Not so fast, Lav. Let Georgetown celebrate this win before you start throwing out lofty goals like the Hoyas beating the Zags.
