From my perspective, 5k seats for a University Stadium is just too small and if you’re going to spend money to do something, you ought to do it right. Maybe the right number is 10k with a banked grass area in the North End Zone for to give it more of a horse shoe feel. Still I like your idea for the brick walls encompassing the bleachers - this would look completely permanent and could not possibly cost $25m.

I am all for this idea, I don't think that the bleachers with seat backs look bad or temporary, if they are done right. That is to say, if they are expansive and provide a considerable amount of seating - 10k to 15k AND have concrete permanent structures for the Press Box, Locker Rooms and Ticket Office & Vending Areas. Especially, if everything blended into the already built brick structures around the MSF and there was a nice banked grass seating area behind the North End Zone that could be used for added seating and housed a Real Scoreboard! Actually, since we are likely going to build a new Athletic Training Facility, it would make sense that we do not need space in the football stadium for Coach's offices, weight room, etc. These could and likely should go into the new Basketball / Training Facility. Hence making bleachers, with some permanent adornments like you see in the Kennesaw & Hofstra Football stadiums a really cost effective and from my perspective - attractive option. Here are a couple of links to a HS stadium here in Austin, TX – it is two sided but the pics show only the home team side. It has a concrete foundation with bleachers, but due to the two story build it looks great in person. www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.keepeanesinformed.com/tbhs_Chaparral.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.keepeanesinformed.com/stadium.htm&h=262&w=400&sz=20&tbnid=tl0HX8GBlJDlEM:&tbnh=81&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3DChaparral%2BStadium%2Bpics&zoom=1&q=Chaparral+Stadium+pics&usg=__prw1el51qqR3P0bav7JSIqxo2Vg=&sa=X&ei=1EZITYuvJo-q8Aai0q2yBg&ved=0CCUQ9QEwAgimg42.imageshack.us/i/chaparralstadium5lc.jpg/sr=1www.texasmonthly.com/2005-09-01/stadiums/15_austin.jpg

From the Recently Released - Georgetown University 2010-2020 Campus Plan See the first bullet in "The Middle" for commentary on MSF - at least it's still in the plan. However, it does not seem to be listed in the “Proposed 2010 – 2020 Campus Plan Projects” table. This identifies the following: - Poulton Addition - Walsh Addition - Kehoe Field Roof and Enclosure - McDonough Gym Addition - Dahlgren West Contemplative Space - New South Student Ctr - Library Walk Buildings - GUMC Entrance 3 Building - Medical Dental Addition - Basic Science Addition - Pre-Clinical Science Addition My hope would be that since the MSF and the McDonough Gym Addition were previously approved on the same Zoning Commission Order: No. 07-23, that they would be considered for completion in parallel. But this is a hugely optimistic assumption and based on past history seems unlikely, which means that MSF is not at this time listed as a 2010 – 2020 planned project. Maybe we can move backup to Kehoe and begin playing in a dome – j/k!!!! Here is a section from the actual document: The Athletics precinct consists of the University’s primary athletic facilities, which are concentrated on the western side of the campus, and include McDonough Gymnasium, a multi-sport athletic field, and Yates Field House, the campus’ sole recreation center. Under the 2000 Plan, a new Athletic Training Facility was approved for construction on this portion of the campus. Athletics The 2010 Campus Plan builds on the University’s commitment to its athletic programs, and also includes improvements to vehicular and pedestrian circulation on this portion of campus. Planned improvements include: • Already approved under the 2000 Plan, construction of an Athletic Training Facility on the site of the existing tennis courts. • Establishment of a new open space (Hoya Court) adjacent to the Athletic Training Facility, McDonough Gym, and the Multi-Sport Facility. • Extension of Library Walk to its western resolution. • Enclosure of Kehoe Field, which lies above Yates, in part to allow for the progressive renovation of Yates and to allow for full utilization of the artificial turf field that is the roof. • Completion and establishment of the Campus Service Road on the western edge of the campus to permit internal one-way circulation that connects the north and south portions of campus. The existing gate system at the Leavey Center will be maintained to limit access through campus. The Middle The 2010 Plan continues to enhance and improve this portion of campus in order to capitalize on these new facilities with the following improvements: • Already approved under the 2000 Plan, construction of improvements to the Multi-Sport Facility. • Construction of an addition to the northeast wing of the Leavey Center, balancing it with the existing northwest wing. • Development of Tondorf Road into a primary north-south pedestrian route connecting the South Residential precinct to the North Residential precinct. • Improvements to east-west connections through the core of the campus. • Creation of a major new formal open space at the intersection of Tondorf Road with the new east-west connection to West Road, between the New Science Center, Intercultural Center, and Multi-Sport Facility. Just curious - what alma mater and project are you referring to?
Is it Loyola? If so, I'm really jealous of what they have now. Man, could you imagine that stadium with another sideline of approx 5k seats and a banked slope in the North End Zone for Gen Admission seating right in the heart of GU's Campus? Throw in a digital scoreboard - what an amazing dream!
Sorry - Just had to dream for a minute this morning.
Anyway, does anyone have an idea of what it would likely cost for us to build something like I have described above? Is this a $5m, $10m, $20m, $40m effort? I guess it all depends on what the additional facilites include (Offices, Training Rooms, Weight Room, Etc). Just curious if anyone knows ROM cost for Layola or something that we may someday build?

Ok, so if the GI Club is not in the foreseeable future have any further insight into the vision and direction of the program – is it not possible for the parents of the current players to put some direct heat on Kelly and the AD himself? I know that if my kid were playing for the Hoyas right now, I would have some major questions for these folks.
BTW – Hoyaparents, you are the man by putting your money down and I am disgusted although not surprised by the response you received.
Here is an idea, why doesn’t the GI Club setup a bi-annual meeting where the Coaching Staff and AD make themselves available to the donors and talk about things like Vision, Recruiting, Facility Enhancements, Etc. This could however be used as a fundraising vehicle, as I know that I would pay a for an entrance fee or better yet seat at a dinner if I got to ask some tough questions to the people that Should be able to answer them. Jim L. – Is this possible?

I thnk that I have asked this before on at least a dozen occassions, but since I've never been pleased with the response....I will ask again!
Why can the GridIron Club not have some proactive invovlement in the communication of details and plans for the program out to what are it's real main focus (alumni, donators and people who care about the program)?

So, I was goaded by my wife and 8 yr old to "break out the tapes" over the weekend and for the first time in 15 years, we watched some of the highlight films from my HS state championship run (fell one game short - but great press coverage and tv interview of me in HS - very funny for my son to see) and more importantly my years at Gtown.
What dawned on me was that over the years of watching us get getting beaten down, I had forgotten that in the '95 season - '96 graduation year we had the #1 ranked defense in the nation for 1-AA, (top 5 each for passing and rushing), 11 all league selections in the MAAC and most of the team that year were 3.5 - 4 year starters.
We had so much momentum in the direction Gtown was headed as a program, the next year we won the MAAC and then joined the Patriot League and the promise of a new stadium in the middle of campus (our old grass game practice fields) was born.
I guess the reason that I write this (beyond that fact that my son asked where our stadium was.....which honestly on film looked much better than the construction pit with seating for 1000 that is the current field) is that I get mad when I see something with all the promise in the world (be it...talent, brains, opportunity, luck, you name it!) squandered. This is how I feel about the Gtown FB program over the past 10 years. All the promise, no support and nothing to show!
Where to go from here not sure, but I hope for something positive and fear more than the death of the program continued mediocrity. I can hope that someone recognizes the potential and funds a new era...otherwise why play? My personal opinion, you never turn back (play in a lesser league) and it does no good for anyone in sports to play just to be on the field...you compete to WIN - that's why we keep score and have rankings!

See what can happen with a "Big Vision" and Support from the Athletic Detpt....Congrats to UCONN, just a few years out of I-AA and one win away from a BCS Bowl Game. I know Gtown is years from this level even with all the support in the world, but man it's nice to dream and I wish more than anything the AD had a similar long term vision!

Does anyone know how many returning players with significant playing time are returning (offensive / defensive)? What are the major impact players we are keeping and losing?

Here is my 2 Cents & a bunch of analogies: The board has been quite for two weeks now bc we have had the wind taken out of our sails, this baloon is quickly going flat and worst of all - kick a man while he is down!!!! We lose to a team that is (0-6) and gets made fun of for being a "Catholic Girls School"!!!!! What to say, I'm mad - I feel like something has been taken from me and I know what it is - HOPE & PRIDE!!! I walked around the first 4 weeks of this year with my chest out, we talked childlessly of a new tradition and people (me included) thought we might get a new stadium - based on winning merit!!! My wife asks how we did, I abrubtly say we lost - she syas to who - I walk out of the room and she knows not to pursue! This is my new reality!!!! Man what happend to the new OC and the single QB system, what happened to the OL that pushed around Laffeyette? Wagner and SHC??? I'm mad - I had possibly false expecatations - but for years I had none and like the saying goes, "Its far better to be poor for life than ever know rich and become poor!" For 4 weeks in the past 10 years I was rich and it was ripped from my by WAGNER / SHC!!!!!!!!!!!

Channelsurfing is a good feed, but it's annoying that since the MSF has a tiny press box, you can hear background commentary from the other broadcasters in the box. What a joke!

I am of the opinion that the December vote on FB Scholarships for the Patriot League will have a huge impact on Gtown FB and will likely determine the timeline and plans for the MSF as well. Maybe I am oversimplifying things too much and if I am DFW please feel free to correct me: But let’s assume that the PL decides to go with a scholarship model as I have a feeling that they will. This forces Gtown to make some fairly quick and very impactful decisions:
1. Stay in the PL and increase funding as necessary to meet the new league standards. If this were the decision by Gtown, it would seem to me that we would have little or no ability to further delay the MSF. I mean if the school made a decision to support that type of cost increase for the program, why would you further handcuff recruiting, game day atmosphere and success with the lack of a stadium. This I pray is the option that the school takes, as it allows for us to become a true competitor in the PL and gives the school options for expansion at a later date should they want to follow in the footsteps of schools like Nova.
The other scenarios do not in my opinion bode well for the programs future or the MSF.
2. Drop from the PL and find another lesser I-AA conference or perhaps play as an Independent. If this is the decision, it would likely prolong and need by the school to complete the MSF anytime soon. To me, this would be the first nail in the coffin for the program as they may play-on for a few years as a team - but it would be very clear that there is no support from the school and that FB will never be a focus. Recruiting would stall and essentially we would remain as long as the team was in place at the bottom of the barrel in I-AA. On some level and it kills me to say this, but this almost seems worse to me than just dropping the program. Who wants to be part of something that has no support, funding or chance to be competitive. Sports are about winning, so why play if you are not going to try and win!
3. Decide to drop football immediately, again allowing the MSF to go uncompleted.
Please weigh in, does this seem to be a logical thought process with regard to the future of the program and the MSF?

Is there anyone that we can work with progressively at the school (AD, Univ and FB / LAX Programs) to get some type of updated vision and time-line for the completion of the MSF? Honestly, everyone knows it's critical and after 10 years of waiting all we as a community want is a plan or at the very least a status update. Can the GridIron Club and Lax equivalent lead this for us? If not, does anyone have a suggestion about who can?
