Interesting that "appropriators" is suddenly a dirty word, since Constitutionally (which is a big thing w/the cult), appropriations is sort of a major part of what the House is supposed to be doing.

No use in gloating. He'll be Speaker by this time tomorrow, because there aren't 4 members for whom the good of the country is more important than staying in the cult.

So, Colorado's sort of going home, and both the AAC and Conference USA would appear to have no fixed identities whatsoever - just transition stops on the way up or down the ladder?

Referees did their damnedest to ruin the women's championship game - first quarter calls were ridiculous. Hibbert/Oden redux. Great game, however. LSU shot the lights out.

Don’t know how Gonzaga pulls this out down 12 with Timmy having 4 fouls 3 mins into the 2nd half. The refs need to get out of the game. It's not the refs that are making Gonzaga look foolish. Pains me to say it, but UCONN is really freaking good.

America has become a nation of parsers. Viewers are parsing the heck outta the video. Depending on feelings toward him two different narratives are being extracted smh Agreed. Fortunately and this is what I choose to focus on, it doesn’t require parsing to note that Ed clearly is extremely motivated to succeed, given what he has left behind and the gauntlet/legacy he has chosen to pick up. He could’ve had his own larger than life bronze statue in his hometown, and instead is going to try to live up to/restore the larger than life sized hero of his youth. My take away from that is he is not going to let anything or anyone impede his success in meeting that challenge — for which we all should take heart…. That photo looks like something from the Chris Farley Show on SNL.

Were there any in Roman Catholic Iona U.? He ended up in Roman Catholic St. John’s University signed by its President, the Roman Catholic Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., S.T.L., Ph.D. Are we that “houler than thou” under our longest-termed president? Btw, when does DeGioia step down? Who removes DeGioia? Whenever he wants because no one can tell him otherwise? Sounds very Putin, Xi and John Thompson… there for life or until they want… I need to find the Jesuit’s education philosophy handbook. I remember how Fr. Healy, Beirne and O’Donovan (and others in middle and high school) explained separately how and why Jesuit educators were rotated from one post to another every 10 or so years. Now, we’re working on the 22nd year of DeGioia’s tenure. Is Georgetown no longer following Jesuit education principles? Were there any accusations of basketball improprieties at Iona? Not that I'm aware of, no. But no one is entitled to the job of being head coach at Georgetown (or anywhere else). Just because Brian Shanley - who was, you may recall, the guy who tried to poach Pitino from Louisville while they were a member of the Big East - has one set of standards and Jack DeGioia, whether given his NCAA role or just his personal feelings about how college sports should be, has another, doesn't mean one is acting more "houler than thou" or in line with "Jesuit education principles" or whatever. Neither Jesus nor Ignatius had much to say on the topic of college basketball, remarkably. In any event, Shanley is not a Jesuit, and neither is DeGioia. I'm sure the decision to hire the first lay president was not taken lightly by the Board at the time, and one of the arguments in favor was the very stability that comes with a longer term of service. Is 22 years too long? Everyone's got an opinion about that, but the opinions of the people that matter most - which is to say, not those of anyone on this message board, yours truly included - do not appear to have settled on the affirmative. And so Jack gets to stay in his role, at least until that ambassadorship to the Vatican opens up Speaking of too long, how long as Charlie Deacon been Dean of Admissions?

I thought the comment was middle of the pack in the conference? It’s really tough to keep track of which goalpost you are moving on us now. But I’ll keep trying to play along… You know what’s an interesting stat in that NCAA record? Providence was an underdog in 6 of the 7 losses. 3-1 in games they were favored. Now do Hurley. Or do Smart or Miller. They’re just really wide goalposts. Everything between 3 and 9, inclusive, is the middle.

Thanks to Matt Painter and Purdue for definitively supplanting JT3 and GU as biggest underachievers/worst serial losers to double-digit seeds in NCAA history. That is tough to do... JTIII did it 5 years in a row to a team seeded 10th or lower..'08, '10, '11, '12, '13 How many years in a row has it been for Matt Painter and Purdue? Losses to 13, 15, 16 in last 3 years. And FDU is likely the worst Tourney loss of all time, given FDU’s overall rank, lack of height, and the fact that they didn’t even win the worst conference in CBB. JT3 isn’t in the illustrious club of three time losers to 13+ seeds.

Nebraska wanted Scott Frost gone so badly they didn't want until 10/1, when his buyout dropped by 50% ($15MM to $7.5MM). Great use of $7.5MM by the University and the state of NE.

For their next trick the Pro Life party will no doubt seek to charge women who had abortions performed in other states with murder and then sentence them to death. Suspect their next trick is pregnancy testing all outgoing and incoming women at the state line, to be able prosecute and/or collect a bounty for an out of state abortion.

FDA can stand improvement on many fronts. However, I can't fault FDA for limiting monoclonal antibodies given EUA, the data for many of them is terribly scant and for a therapeutic with a high incidence of adverse events including anaphylaxis, moving deliberately until there is proof of efficacy is a wise idea. Likewise, there were a sh!t ton of antigen tests which were neither sensitive nor accurate that were not approved. Would you want to be paying $10+ a test for something that never had a chance of accurately identifying infection in the first place? I know I would not. What I'll never understand is why so many folks (including at least one governor) can have such a negative view of vaccines, but don't give a second thought to being treated by monoclonal antibodies. If your argument is "who knows what they're putting in your body" or, to your point, the potential side effects, isn't that applicable to both? I realize, BTW, that my problem is attempting to apply a measure of rationality.....

Tuned into Maryland v George Mason to see how he looked. Hard to tell, as Turgeon barely played him.

“You say it’s a personal choice. In fact, to attend school in your state of Nebraska, children must be vaccinated against a number of diseases." Gov. Ricketts turned off all reporting and data collection as of June 30, so there's no COVID-19 in Nebraska.
