Everyone is focused on the D, but the offense really leaves something to be desired. We have zero inside threat so teams can swarm the perimeter. It’s leading to forced deep threes and easy transition buckets off the long rebounds. Correct; we run the 3 man weave until 7-8 seconds left on shot clock

There was a time when GU got every loose ball; destroyed team on the Offensive glass because they wanted it more. Nowadays our defensive rebounding is everyone looking around waiting for someone else to do it; sans Cook.

Bristol came to play on D tonight. Hands in passing lane. Disruptive. Heath is terrible

Already love the attention to detail on defense and rebounding, NOBODY is waiting for someone else to do it. Love the effort

Chris Beard had all charges dropped; he would need to rehabilitate his image and our program

Maybe it’s been mentioned in this or another thread but I have read other posts talking of the postgame pressers where Ewing essentially blames everybody but himself. Strikingly opposite of the view of his former coach/mentor who agreed with Dean Smith that a coach should never blame his players for losses. I guess tonight he had the guys prepared.

The "Ewing over Georgetown" fans rationalize games like last night by implying that it's not their guy's fault, he can only accomplish so much with the Hoyas' talent, and they will throw out every excuse possible for why our roster isn't as good as UCONN's (COVID, injuries, transfers, Akinjo's uncle, LeBlanc's baby mama, Hoyas fans are bad, etc.) The "Georgetown over Ewing" fans realize that the head coach is the CEO of the program and has more responsibilities than Xs/Os for an individual game, including the responsibility to ensure he has a competitive roster no matter what external factors occur. It's interesting that most of the "Georgetown over Ewing" fans seem to be alums, like myself, while most of the "Ewing over Georgetown" fans are not. This is an interesting point and, I think, merits more consideration. The “Ewing over Georgetown” fans are fans that the program earned. These fans / types of fans are necessary to build a large fan base. The Georgetown alumni network / each graduating class is only so big. How many of these fans will leave when / if Ewing leaves as coach? We all can recognize that the results are not good - Is there a combo role when Ewing moves into Director of Basketball to handle recruiting (recruits seem to be consistently impressed by him and his legacy even if we aren’t constantly bringing in top tier recruits, if that makes sense), national media (if we ever get it back, program personality/ face (everyone loves Ewing / the classic Ewing smile), but a new X/Os guy is brought in to be the “head coach”. Or maybe specialized offensive / defensive coordinator/coaches of sorts with Ewing as the “Coach” but more GM / Director of Ops? Terrible parallel for so many reasons and differences between staff and roles but, as a Celtics fan, like Brad Stevens moving into the front office and Ime Udoka as the Cs new head coach. A new voice / major change is needed. Beloved coach moves into a new role still deeply connected to the organization and day to day activities. I know, I know - the program has shown no willingness to change and Ewing no willingness to bring in fresh coaching blood. We need the Ewing over Georgetown (passion, brand, National appeal) fans but also the Georgetown over Ewing fans (realism/ pessimism ). There needs to be a major change to the program but we do need every fan we can get and need to balance each other out. Almost like the left / right in politics and needing middle ground…. 🙃 please don’t ban me mods - just a joke, not getting political I would b among those the program “earned” 40+ years ago but can say I wasn’t a fan of the Ewing hire not because I didn’t think he was capable but because this isn’t the NBA. While that style might resonate with recruits it doesn’t necessarily breed success in college. And with he and Orr, they r better off trying to recruit (impress me at 50+) than any 16-18 year old kid who isn’t interested in anybody’s legacy. Plus, bringing back old stars hasn’t worked out well for most schools. From afar, it seems our head coach is stubborn and reluctant to change…the definition of insanity is doing something the same way over and over and expecting different results..

I’m a 41 year fan of G’town basketball, never went to school there (frankly wasn’t smart enough to get in) but loved the grit and tenacity the program played with for years and years all while going to a university that demanded they be students. Admired Big John’s deflated basketball and what that stood for because as a retired 24 year veteran of the US Air Force Officer corps, can appreciate what it takes preparing men for future endeavors. There was a time, G’town basketball didn’t give opponents second chances on the boards, get beat for loose balls or give up uncontested anything. Sadly those days are over. We have had our fair share of good/streaky good shooters and ultra talented Bigs but what is missing from the squads of late (minus Aminu who has this but hasn’t honed it yet) is THE DAWG. Guys like Ronnie Highsmith, John Turner, Brian Kelly, Boubacar Aw, JYD…no uncontested layups, no second, third and fourth rebounds, no way ur getting a loose ball! I have cheered through abysmal shooting teams, lived with turnovers and teams with average talent but played with fire and intensity and were feared and booed in every arena they played in. Long for the return of THOSE days. There is a reason I don’t watch NBA basketball and that’s because it’s more of a one on one circus of individual showmen and no longer a team sport. Still optimistic there is some fight left in this dog! Go Hoyas

Only watched a few minutes of second half when TCU went on their run and basically salted it away. We ARE A TERRIBLE REBOUNDING TEAM. Giving teams 2-3 shots nearly every possession down the court is inexcusable. Long for the days of JYD, Brian Kelly, Ronnie Highsmith…in essence, Dogs who got dirty on the boards and limited a teams possessions

Tyler, if u see this, ur entry passes in today’s game we’re among the best I’ve seen in years as a Hoya fan. You are a great player, have confidence in yourself (Including your shot). Looking for u to continue to do great things for our team. Hoya Saxa!

I don’t know if you read Hoya Talk young man but your intensity on both ends of the court, particularly your relentless defense are refreshing to a Hoya Fan of 40+ years. U may have been a 5 star high school player but it is your 5 star effort that will take you to great heights in your life. Big John would absolutely love your effort and hope that u will “infect” your teammates with your vigor. Well done today young man

Aminu has all the intensity of Boubacar Aw on D and displayed impressive offensive skills as our guy in the center of the zone. Even a pretty good passer

Beard’s entry passing in this game has been perfect. Except for the mistake of leaving his feet on the drive. His passing has been key to attacking the zone.

Agree, fans want their team to win. Nothing against the kids; isn’t about them. We haven’t attracted one 5 star big to play for our HOF CENTER coach because the game isn’t played that way by bigs anymore. Good coaches make adjustments and Great coaches adapt to the times. Our home games are as well attended as some upper echelon high school programs. What value is the institution getting for their money? I haven’t seen our players on the floor, scrapping for loose balls or any defensive intensity…just like the NBA

Mohammad ended up as the 2nd leading scorer. 17 points on 50%+ shooting, 8 rebounds and 3 steals - Mo is the only positive on this team. Anybody criticizing him is delusional. Muhammad is an old school Hoya, he plays D, when he makes mistakes often times it is because he’s trying to compensate for others and is frustrated. I love his intensity and effort and would settle even for less talented guys around him who reflected his attitude and hustle

Over the last decade+ of watching Georgetown basketball, there have been a lot of ups and downs. While this wasn't our worst blowout loss, I cannot remember a game where I was more embarrassed watching our team. As a threshold matter, South Carolina is not a good team. Entering today's game they were ranked 104. We were similarly ranked. Everyone knows the defense has been atrocious. Typically, this manifests itself in allowing tons of open threes, at a high rate. While South Carolina did get a bunch of open threes they missed them. But, this is nothing new - we allow teams to get their looks from three. What is more infuriating is that we gave up 9 dunks, and a bunch of layups too. We have absolutely no discernible scheme on defense, our "man to man" defense often ends up a mess leaving the other team wide open (since we don't communicate or rotate properly), and oftentimes our guys are left standing there looking befuddled. This game was an utter failure in every way. Both the offensive and defense ends were a dumpster fire. It's like our coaching staff and players rolled out of bed, went to the arena, and went out there with no plan whatsoever. To me, what we are seeing on the court this year is utterly unacceptable, and it's not getting better. I truly do hope we "click" midseason, because if we don't we may be lucky to win more than a few games in the Big East. Keep in mind that, as of today, our "best" win is against 201 ranked Longwood, and that wasn't an overwhelming win. We've lost to teams ranked 45, 206, and 260, and now South Carolina (104 going into today). And, our wins are only against teams ranked 201, 300, and 326. We were ranked 107 going into this game on KenPom, and we will fall even further. I love Georgetown, I love our team, and I love our guys, and I want them to win, but the level of play we are seeing this year makes that incredibly difficult to bare. It's hard to see a program that, only 10 years ago was regularly making the NCAA tournament get to the point where now some fans are pointing to seasons where we finish 8th and make an unlikely BET run as being a great result, and enough to keep things as they are going forward. That may be good enough for some, but not for me. Clearly, Georgetown is not going to be making a mid-year move like Maryland, but I feel like we are on a trajectory where we will get only a handful of additional wins, horrible attendance, and probably a bunch of embarrassing blowouts along the way. If that happens, I think there will be no choice but to make a coaching change at the end of the season. I really don't want Georgetown to have to do that, but we will be left with no choice if these humiliating outcomes keep piling up. Agree 100% although I have been watching since early 80’s always gonna b a fan but we have no fight. Gone are the days when we competed for EVERY loose ball and very few teams ever got second chances. Even when we didn’t have a supremely talented offensive team u could count on us to crash the boards. Turnovers continue to plague us on offense and the defense and the intensity it requires is absent save for a few times this year. I want Patrick to succeed but his staff needs some youthful exuberance and he needs to adjust his philosophy. This isn’t the NBA. I haven’t seen one “big” he has coached up even. The play slow footed and are mechanical at best on offense. I apologize if u see it differently but the proof is in the proverbial pudding.

And obvious observation but we do not defend the 3 point line well at all. Nor the pick and roll. This score is more indicative of how poorly Siena shot (mostly open uncontested threes) than how well we played defensively. Young team, sure; but we will get drummed in Big East play if it doesn’t improve.
