Jack screwed up Mt Vernon, Marriott in Rosslyn, giving Ewing an extension when NO ONE would hire him away, not firing Ewing last year and if it’s true not wanting Pitino!! I always knew he couldn’t see the forest for the trees. But, this is just utter stupidity. The stars are aligned to get a HOF coach and we want to poach a in conference rival’s coach! WTH. I don’t think I’ll ever recover if we screw up yet again. Quite the time to do a capital campaign!

Quick question. Do you think the drama surrounding Ewing kicking the players off the team a few years ago has made Jack a little gun shy re: Pitino? It was national news for a sec. when the players got kicked off the team and the supposed reasons why. Board rules question? Can we share the emails of the board here to organize in support of better university governance and support of the basketball program or would sharing names and email so that we can do something other than talk be a violation of our rules?

If Jack is the reason we aren’t considering Pitino, it’s time to thank him for his service and find a new president.

The program has become such a non-factor that you can't figure out whether we are winning or losing or whether it is close or not based on either hoyatalk or casualhoya's comment section. We aren't a laughingstock, we've become a non-story.

My concern is that these close but no cigar losses eventually hurt the players moral. The BE is tough, and lends itself to blow out losses on the road than close games. As a team if you keep making mental mistake after mental mistake to give the game away then you dont deserve to win. These late game performance is going to define Ewing's career. He is either going to be remembered as a Coach Esherick for these late game melt downs or help get the team over the hump and be remembered more of a JTIII Yes, Ewing's legacy is going to be defined by how he does in year one, and we've already ranged him as not as good as JTIII. This makes sense. Or... a team without solid guards is going to have trouble keeping leads even if it succeeds in getting them, so we'll have to wait to see how Ewing recruits and coaches in subsequent years before drawing major conclusions.

If we really lose the chance to host home games because of lack of lights that must be addressed. No excuse now. I think its an easy cost benefit tradeoff. We should fully support the programs that are really good. Totally agree. Our program has outgrown our facilities. We and the school either need to step up or slip back.

Yeah, good point. It is definitely an issue, especially, to state the obvious, it now dark by like 5pm. This is one of those cost-benefit questions that didn't really come up until the last couple of years... and it might've been a couple of years too late. The long-term writing is on the walls - Yates will be rebuilt on top of where Shaw Field is now, with one or more fields recreated in the current Yates footprint. The timeline is uncertain, as this will be a ghoulishly expensive proposition. Meanwhile, the north side of campus - including parts immediately adjacent to Shaw - will be tied up in heavy construction from this coming January through the end of 2022 thanks to the new MedStar surgical pavilion. The point is - who wants to pay for lights that really only come into play a couple of times per year when they'll need to be torn down in a decade anyway? And that's before we get to the ever-present possibility of neighbor objections. But yes, it sucks and is frustrating. The latest coaches poll has the Hoyas at #15 and Wake nine spots back at #24. The TopDrawerSoccer poll has the Hoyas all the way up to #8, with the Deacons down at #19. Going by these rankings, the Hoyas should have been seeded! They have been talking about rebuilding Yates for over 10 years and the field on top has been closed by (5?). I know they came out with some budget analysis of what it would cost to fix the roof, but they don’t appear to have take. Any additional steps. If the Yates rebuild/new soccer field with lights project is going to begin in the next two to three years, I get not putting in the lights now, but if it is longer, they should put up lights. Why make the investment the school has made on soccer and then miss out on the element that would also make it fab friendly? In the CTE era, I like how Georgetown is betting on soccer.

With the amount we are investing in quality mens and womens soccer, it is disgraceful that we don't have lights for our field. For the past 10 years, we've had two top 10 programs that could be used to generate alumni goodwill but 90% of the games are played mid-day on weekdays. Put up lights! Host night games! At this point, it is obvious that the lack of lights is harming the on the field product, having to play on the road in a first round game??

Let's try this again. "Only Georgetown University's coaches who have successfully completed the NCAA Recruiting Rules Examination on an annual basis may be involved in the recruitment process. Representatives of athletics interests (alumni and boosters) MAY NOT make any recruiting contacts. This includes letters, e-mails, text messages, telephone calls or face-to-face contact on or off campus with a prospect or the prospect's parents." Additional questions should be directed to Christopher Ray in the compliance office. Georgetown Office of Compliance Phone: (202) 687-8262 Fax: (202) 687-2344 (1) Your list doesn't actually include tweets. (2) Christopher Ray can be reached at 687-8206 or christopher.ray@georgetown.edu (3) It really would be fascinating to get his take on whether compliance is actually possible and if we are drawing the right line on what is permissible. If the rules really are strict liability, is it permissible to post to HoyaTalk if we know that recruits read the message board? Can I tweet that I'd like Waters to come to Georgetown if it isn't DMed to him? Am I allowed to get drinks with friends who happen to be coaches of high school or other amateur sports teams?

Two Questions: (1) What is the definition between a donation and a financial contribution? (2) Is there really no limiting factor? Would it actually be a violation if my wife (not a Syracuse fan or grad) make a donation to Syracuse's athletic department then tweeted and DMed at Syracuse recruits? If so, it seems both impossible to police and very easy to cause compliance problems for schools. 1. A donation can be non-financial. Hosting a team for lunch, for example, would be a donation but not a financial one. In the example above, the NCAA argues that even if you did not make a gift for actual benefits (e.g., you made a gift to the Thompson Center, or made a gift to baseball even though there are no season tickets), you are still a booster. 2. Yes, it would be a violation, although intent plays a role. Is there a self-reporting process? I'm pretty sure that nobody who has given to a school and played a sport could possibly comply. For example, there is a rule against entertaining coaches of amateur athletes. If someone were hypothetically a swimmer and friends with many swim coaches at various levels, that hypothetical person would violate theses rules any time he or she meets any of these coaches for dinner or drinks. And what about high school or other amateur coaches who have also donated to their alma mater; are they unable to communicate with their athletes who may some day go on to college. A literal interpretation would seem to preclude high school coaches who are boosters from even talking to the teams they coach. If these rules are really as black and white as you are making them sound, the NCAA is a joke because there is no way they could do anything other than selective enforcement. If they are more nuanced, maybe we can worry a little less about casual fans retweeting.

I guess one question would be whether "booster" means only financial donors vs. mere fans. And should we report all of those Syrapuke tweeters?! NCAA definition of a booster: "Boosters, referred to by the NCAA as “representatives of the institution’s athletic interests,” include anyone who has: 1. Provided a donation in order to obtain season tickets for any sport at the university. 2. Participated in or has been a member of an organization promoting the university’s athletics programs. 3. Made financial contributions to the athletic department or to a university booster organization. 4. Arranged for or provided employment for enrolled student-athletes. 5. Assisted or has been requested by university staff to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. 6. Assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student athletes or their families. 7. Been involved otherwise in promoting university athletics. Once an individual is identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the person retains that identity forever." www.ncaa.org/enforcement/role-boostersTwo Questions: (1) What is the definition between a donation and a financial contribution? (2) Is there really no limiting factor? Would it actually be a violation if my wife (not a Syracuse fan or grad) make a donation to Syracuse's athletic department then tweeted and DMed at Syracuse recruits? I think there's a perception that Falk has a MONOPOLY at Georgetown. Like nearly (all) other agents, there are some sore clients out there .. but in general Falk seems no better or no worse than the rest of them. Falk is the Thompsons (II & III) and the Ewings (I & II) agent. There's a widespread perception among many in basketball -- including many former GU players -- that there is a referral business relationship of some sort between JTII and Falk. Ask a 10 former players what they think of Falk. The problem is that many players rule out Georgetown b/c of Falk. Also, many assistant coaches -- particularly those who have these ultra valuable relationships w/AAU and others -- won't come to Georgetown b/c what's the point? You can't be a great recruiter here ... These relationships between AAU types, street agents, etc. and the players and their families are often well outside of the "official" recruiting. It's an arrangement between a high schooler and a pro agent ... but it can't happen if the kid goes to GU ... at least that's what I hear. Clients listed from Falk's wikipedia page: Patrick Ewing, Patrick Ewing Jr., Sleep Floyd, Jeff Green, Othella Harrington, Roy Hibbert, Allen Iverson (at one time), Jaren Jackson, Greg Monroe, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Victor Page, Otto Porter, Don Reid, Charles Smith, Michael Sweetney, John Thompson, John Thompson III, Jahidi White, Jerome Williams, Reggie Williams, David Wingate .... the guy doesn't miss much coming off of the Hilltop ... For one, I am GLAD that many shady types do not want to deal with Georgetown because they know that there are no illicit side deals! It is a blessing to "miss" on those guys. Let YOU CON and the rest of the crowd be in that business. Again, that is part of the point about it being hard to win at GU. But the way to deal with that is NOT to change our standards. Why isn't Falk considered a shady type with an illicit side deal? What makes sending our top players to him any different than if we funneled kids to any other agent?

It's tough to do with travel partners if you only add one team. Realistically, and sadly, the best way would be to add six! teams at once: UConn, Dayton, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Wichita State, and University of San Francisco (or another west coast school of our liking). That would leave every school with at least one geographic rival. In the east, you'd have Georgetown, Providence, St. Johns, Villanova, UConn, Seton Hall, Xavier, and Dayton. (Everyone of the first six schools is near the other five, and Xavier and Dayton make sense as geographic rivals.) Out west you'd have Gonzaga, St. Mary's, USF, Creighton, Wichita State, Butler, DePaul, and Marquette. There you'd have Butler, DePaul, and Marquette each relatively close to one another, you'd have Creighton as a natural rival of Wichita State, and out west you'd have three schools that have been playing eachother (and an opportunity to tap the San Francisco market.
With Two Sets of 8, you'd play a home and home within your division for a total of 14 games, and then six of the other schools (3 home, 3 away) however our TV partners see fit.

Mike Brey, Tom Crean, Shaka Smart, Richard Pitino, Tommy Amakour, Danny Hurley, Patrick Ewing, Becky Hammon, Randy Bennett, Tony Bennett My favorites would be Brey, Smart, or Hammon. I'd love Brey - no reason to think he's interested in leaving ND though, right? Thought is he’s from Bethesda, MD, went to Dematha, went to GW, and has a summer house in Delaware.

I have stayed out of this thread but can't help adding my 2 cents. I think those that blame this blog and student actions for Waters transfers is putting the horse before the cart. The brouhaha is a result of the Hoyas on court performance. That lousy performance came first not the brouhaha. And it's that performance that I believe convinced Waters that he didn't want to play here. Kids with Waters talent want to play on a championship team and play in the NBA. Do you really think, after what he, and all of us saw this year, that he thought we would be any better next year? Do you think he saw us wining a BE championship or going to the NCAA? Do you think he really thought his style of play would fit the JT3 system and showcase his abilities? Sorry, we give ourselves too much credit if we think our reaction to the Hoyas performance the last 2 years, rather than that performance, was what scared away Waters. It's not the bloggers or fans or posters. It's he who must not be named and his minions and their active campaign and propoganda to get rid of the Thompson's. Those who have been here 7 plus years know who I'm taking about. Wait... is hifigator the driving force behind Georgetown basketball’s collapse? Can’t wait for the 30 for 30 on that.

We talk about accountability, but at what point does the fanbase and Casual Hoya start to take accountability that that they're definitely involved in this downturn actively? Blaming the entire fanbase is a waste of time. That's not the part in the chain where there is control. With large groups of people, blame should go on the leadership. This also assumes Waters decommitted because of fan negativity (citation required) and that the fanbase is wrong to be expressing negativity right now (strongly disagree). Ah yes, the old, imagine how good Georgetown basketball would be if it didn’t have fans argument. That’s a winner.

How is it a rumor? Kid posted it on Twitter. I guess he could be making it up. I'm sure it's speculation that jt Jr. sent Crawford over. (How would he know that) But it certainly is on topic given it happened at the nova game which we are discussing. Would think it's worth discussing and dismissing or discussing and feeling disgusted. It's knew of those for sure. Exactly. If it isn't true that Big John sent Tyler over, we also need to know that. This seems like something hoyatalk should be discussing. If the moderator has objections because it was off the court, maybe instead of deleting the posts the moderator should create a thread on the blue and grey board. At a minimum, a current student was threatened by a former player. I'm not sure why it would be removed as a rumor since there is video and the report came from the victim.

What a disaster! Building something that won't quite be a stadium and that can only accommodate football. When will Georgetown stop making bad land use decisions?
