I'll add to the pleas to relax. Do you honestly think that JTIII and DeGioia are going to publicly comment about an ongoing negotiation? Do you really think that they're going to draw up, negotiate, sign, and publicly announce a new contract in a week? Do you really think that we wouldn't hear anything if negotiations broke down? I for one expect silence at this point. If things go badly, somebody will leak the story and we'll hear about it. That's when I'd expect Hoya Blue to get into action.
JTIII doesn't want this issue being thrown around public, and I don't see any reason to go against his wishes. For now, I think behind-the-scenes moves from all sides are the right way to go.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was a question along the lines of "what would you give up to keep JT3?" Kind of a funny topic, but ok. Having read it to this point, I really can't believe this thread is serious. When has there ever been a public display about a contract negotiation for a single employee anywhere (in favor of keeping that employee)? What are students supposed to chant at a prospective rally? How many people even think this is an issue among the student body (message board nerds aside)?
I bet 98% of students believe JT3 deserves a raise (at least 2% would say "only after every janitor and his family has the platinum health plan and makes 50K/year). After that, how much unanimity can there be on this subject? Students (and alums) are stakeholders in the university. Putting public pressure on DeGioia to pay JT3 will do nothing to make his job easier, and ultimately what I want (and I would think everyone else should too) is for GU to get the best deal possible. The combination of naivete and pessism is out of control here.

I applaud Volta's efforts to blatantly pad his post total in the offseason by creating a thread and then responding a whopping 6 times within it.
This is precisely the kind of aggression the students need to take on campus to make sure our precious coach doesn't flee.
Well done, Volta.
However, I also respect the students' main goals while in school: mainly to get drunk and pursue tail.
Casually.

Another reason not to be alarmed by no public announcement about a new deal:
It could work in III's favor to wait until the NBA season ends. If pro teams are really after him, perhaps he'll get a couple handsome offers that he can then bring back to DeGioia for yet more leverage.

Hoyals05--that is exactly what I am afraid of--except DeGioia ain't gonna have the balls or the coin to pay NBA money.

I think that if the NBA comes calling and JTIII wants to go, nobody at Georgetown will be able to do anything to stop him. That sort of move isn't about money.

Do you REALLY think Pops would be on his radio show ranting about how underpaid he is all the time? The Father of Hoya Paranoia goes on the radio and rants about how underpaid his son is, and you think that makes JTIII LESS likely to stay at Georgetown? Considering Thompson Jr is still on the Georgetown payroll to the tune of $300,000 per year, maybe he can offer something of his own. Or someone could redirect the direct deposit Esherick is receiving until 2009 to JT3. Either way, problem solved.

It has been 11 days since the season ended. No extention. Not even an announcement that negotiations are ongoing.
In that time 35 different D-I head coaches have been hired. That means that they have negotiated entire contracts, not just renegotiated an existing contract. Exactly when are people going to get concerned and bring some pressure on DeGioia?
HOYA BLUE WHERE ARE YOU? Come save III.

I agree that its been a long-time - I didn't think when I heard DeGioia on Comcast that it would be nearly two weeks without word on a new contract/extension for III.

To make Volta happy When I have class with Degoia on Monday ( first time since coming back since no school monday) I will ask him what's up. Not that I expect a direct response from him.

I think you should start with a short list:
1) Plop down on healey lawn, crack open a beer, put on some sunglasses and enjoy the sunbathers. 2) stop taking yourselves so seriously, it is painful and a waste of some of the best years of your life. 3) Realize the sky is not falling and that any type of "protest" could end up just embarassing JTIII and the various parties engaged in negotiations. Salaries and employment packages are extremely personal matters and it's inappropriate for there to be so much speculation and commotion by those outside the room.

Thank you Cambridge. Very well said. For those who are worried, take a look at this article from CBS (from today): www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/10121653/1"Two days after Georgetown's 67-60 loss to Ohio State, Thompson was studying his recruiting calendar. Before the week was done, he had made his first recruiting trip." Doesn't sound to me like a coach who's on his way out the door. Yes it's unsettling that he hasn't signed a new contract yet, but if he hasn't signed one because he's been busy recruiting new players for us, I don't think we have too much to worry about right now.
