Here's a new thread that I hope hangs around for a long time. Its an update thread for those Hoyas who are approaching 1000 points for their career at GU. After every game someone just needs to come to the thread and list the amount of points scored by an individual and how many more he has to reach before arriving at four digits. Since Brandon Bowman is the current player the closest to reaching the 1000 points mark he will be the one to report on as the season progresses. Bowman entered the season having accumulated 703 points over his first two years. After three games he has put up a total of 51 points which gives him a total of 754. He's only 246 points (ain't I good at math) from becoming the 35th player in Gtown history to reach the 1000 milestone. Unless something goes terribly wrong Bowman will get to 1000 before the end of his junior season. If you want we can take bets over which game it occurs. Once the closest player has reached 1000 (in this case Brandon) we move on to the next player who is closest to getting to getting 1000 points (in this case Ashanti Cook). Ashanti had 376 points coming into this season so odds are we will have to wait until next season before he becomes #36. Odds also are that at the current rate Owens will have to suit up 20 more seasons before getting to 500 points.

Think the NCAA will be lenient and give Owens that extra eligibility?

Well, it's not 1000 points, but BB has officially broken into the Top 50 in the all-time scoring ranks for the Hoyas. His 782 career points move him past Ken Pichette and Horace Broadnax into #49. Next up, Fred Fees at 804. That said, eight more games like tonight, and Brandon will hit 1000 points by mid-January

With only 8 points this outing the Bowman Express lost some steam. But I like to think it was simply because Bowman wanted his point total to stand for a couple of days at an even 800.

At the rate he was going if Sweetney had stayed for his fourth season he would be the all time leading scorer. Of course if Iverson had played two more seasons he would have been #1. And #2. And #3.

It is interesting that 5 of the 9 best performances in points scored were when I was there, including Boo Barry's 46, which I saw. I had forgotten that Jake Gibbons went for 42. I'll have to ask him about that.

Brandon now has 836 points in his career after nine games (Clemson). Last three games have been 8, 6 and 22, I believe.
I'm no exactly sure -- MCI can check my math -- but I'd suggest that we label what game we are referring to. We missed games here so I just took 703 and Bowman's season total 133.

I have the same total for BB after Clemson -- 836 points, putting him in 46th place all time (next time, Steve Martin at 903). And in rebounding, he has cruised into 40th place with 437 career boards... next up, Courtland Freeman with 443.

I'm no exactly sure -- MCI can check my math -- but I'd suggest that we label what game we are referring to. We missed games here so I just took 703 and Bowman's season total 133. Yeah, my math was off by a point or two when I wrote that he had gotten to 800 a while back. But I was too lazy to correct myself. Besides 800 was such a perfect little number. Anyway 23 points and 18 points during MEAC week is a total of 41. Added on to the 836 and that gives him 877. Good sign for Bowman (and the team regardless of the outcome against Pitt and UConn) is if he is comfortably beyond 900 points by the end of next week. A really bad sign if he has not crossed the 900 mark after those two games.

Brandon had 18 points (and a huge 9 rebounds) in the team's upset of Pitt on the road. That gives him 895.
He's scoring 16 points per game. At that pace he'll hit 1,000 halfway through his 7th game from now -- which is at BC.

BB has also cruised into 37th on the Hoyas all-time rebound list, as his 464 boards have carried him past CFree, Samnick/Shomnick, and Warren Buehler (Buehler? .... Buehler?).
Given his skills, his position, and his prominence on the current team, Brandon is uniquely poised among all-time Hoyas, with the chance (continuing and slightly improving his current trajectory) to finish in the Hoyas' career Top 10 in up to 4 statistical categories -- Points, Boards, Steals, and Blocks. Not sure if he can do it, but it's an amazing position to be in.

Wow, I had no idea he racked up that many steals. That is incredible! Four categories!

Yeah, he's at 113 right now, and needs about 70 more to hit top ten. Actually, depending on how things play out, the steals mark should be a lot easier than attaining the blocks mark, from a pure trajectory standpoint.
