Well here are some stories from me...hope yall enjoy them ;D
While unfortunately I did not camp out for tickets (I'm going to be here running to the white house again, hopefully I won't be sick and dying as I do it this time), my dorm room is in VCW facing the gym...hanging out in my room, we hear chants of "Hoya...Saxa"...confused since it was a few days since the game (but still proud that someone was still chanting), me and my friends eventually realized that it was the line outside the gym waiting for tickets...Well done guys being heard from across campus! Love that spirit.
One story was from the storming of N street, right before OT I ran got my shoes, wallet, and cell phone from my room in preperation...as soon as the game ended I ran straight to N where there was already a small crowd, but no where near the whole block yet. I was able to get into the bed of a truck that was park on N street (ill tell a story about that after this), after starting, following, and enjoying lots of different types of chants, songs, and yells...I start to hear people yell about going down to M...at this point I'm sortof in the middle of the pack (screw that I want to be in the front leading this!), so me and my friends run down to 37th through that back alley (you know through the park, behind tombs, up right past Wiseys) ending right up at the front of the pack...we run down 34th, past Phillies, onto M...while running down M street there were mixed reactions (some people were obviously agitated at us for stopping traffic) but for the most part, people had there windows down, were yelling, giving high fives, and just celebrating with us...at this point people were stopping on the sidewalk and watching us run by, taking pictures etc...so we get to M street, now what...TAKE THE INTERSECTION OF WISCONSIN AND M!!! So, we run down M, high fiving people in their cars, yelling at diners at different resturants, just celebrating in general...finally we make it to the intersection, at this point there was a police van just chilling stopping traffic (first time they were able to predict our moves)...so we get there, stop traffic on two major roads, start some cheers (not as many initially because people were out of breath)...well once we get there...wasn't great, and some yells "ON TO THE WHITE HOUSE!!"...at first no one listened because we were all a little winded from the sprint from N to M and Wisconsin...eventually though, the idea was brought back up and we started moving out...so we all start running to the White House!!! I stop at the split off between M and Pennsylvania, look back and see just M street (or atleast one direction) FULL of Georgetown students. While the run to the White House was less yelling, less random people cheering, less people in general, it was still great...and passing by random people (who had no idea what was going on) and cheering at them was great....so finally, a smaller contigent of students finally make it to the White House...where they eventually bring police out, turn on the lights, bring out the secret service, and train some snipers on us (I know I saw like 1 or 2, some people claim they saw more)...while there we are signing the fight song, chanting, singing the National Anthem, getting yelled at by SS to get off the fence. So at this point, since I am dying cause I have a killer cough and am congested as all hell, me and two friends start heading back before the majority of the crowd...the rest of the crowd leaves about 15 minutes after us...the whole time walking back, we could hear the crowd from about 3 blocks cheering and from time to time a "PLEASE STAY ON THE SIDEWALK" from the cops (note this is over the 20-25 police cars and their sirens that are escorting the crowd)...so since we are walking fairly slowly, the crowd catches up to us right before Wisconsin, were we retake that intersection for about 10 minutes (and an ABC cameraman pretty much got mobbed), before finally going back down M...cheering at people on the sidewalks, people in their cars, and people dining (similar to the initial way down)...next, on 36th (right past Wiseys) two 10-12 yr old kids start a "Hoya...Saxa" chant...well done future Hoyas!!! Finally, the crowd I was with was down to about 20-30 people when we passed the library and were shocked to see people in the reading room, so what do we do? CHARGE IT!!! We ran into the reading room, started yelling, cheering, and even got some chants off (although there were a few angry studiers, but they obviously are not faithful fans). So, finally get back to the dorm only to begin the celebration (of both the win and my birthday which was on Monday/started at midnight.
Now, onto the story that I refered to earlier, so while on N street, me and about 10 other people were in a truck bed (of one of those like Ford Explorer Sport Trucks, the small ones)...about 1/2 through the celebration, some older man comes up to me, taps me on the hip and yells "THATS MY TRUCK YOUR IN!", so obviously, not wanting to anger him, I apologize and ask if he wants me to get out?...at this he just laughs and yells "NO WAY...GO HOYAS!!!", we then start a "This Guy's Truck" chant...which he cheers, yells Hoya Saxa, then disappears.
GO HOYAS!!!!
PS Just writing that gave me another adrenaline rush
