Sweet 16. Does anyone really remember Cuse running the table last year? Don't think so. On the other hand, everyone remembers that we gave Florida their toughest challenge in the Sweet 16. In any event, this discussion will be academic in a couple of weeks since we will get to . . . - ooops didn't want to jinx that one. I remember 'Cuse running the table at MSG last year. Specifically, I remember the part where they beat us on a fluke performance by a Greek Leauge reject. I'd rather get revenge on Boeheim than beat a nobody and a Big Ten team in the tournament. The NCAA tournament may be the most exciting part of the year, but the BE regular season and the BET tournament are the most important. How we do in our own league matters more to me.

BE title = higher seed = better chance at Sweet 16 - get 'em both -- and keep on going!!

A BET title coupled with a strong regular season that allows you to credibly claim to be the best team in the conference is a more lasting accomplishment than a Sweet 16 appearance. You expect a team that is the truly the best in the Big East to make the Sweet 16, but there is nothing about a Sweet 16 appearance that implies conference dominance because it is normal for at least three Big East teams to make the Sweet 16.
We have had Sweet 16's and elite 8's since 1989, it is time for a BET title and then an NCAA tournament consistent with out conference attainment.

I believe I was the one who posed that question last year....my answer remains firmly BET title. Its a title, it counts, it goes in the record book. The Sweet 16 doesn't mean dittly to me anymore. Sure, it would be great to see them win two NCAA games rather than not, but losing in the Sweet 16 would be VERY disappointing this season, like a waste of a year....the BET on the other hand, no matter what happens in the NCAAs, would be a tangible accomplishment.
But this is the kicker... I believe a BET title this year PUTS US OVER UCONN IN THE BE RECORD BOOK for all time most BET titles if I am not mistaken. That makes it a slam dunk. I am of the opinion that BE regular season "titles" are nothing of the kind, so in a tangible way, if we win a BET title this year, we can OBJECTIVELY claim to be the most succesful program in the history of the BE. If I am correct about us being tied with Uconn with 6 BET titles....anyone know for sure?

Here are the overall all-time tournament records: Georgetown.....41-21 with 6 titles and 4 runner-ups. Syracuse.......41-22 with 5 titles and 8 runner-ups. Connecticut....29-21 with 6 titles and 3 runner-ups. Villanova......28-25 with 1 title and 4 runner-ups. St. John's.....22-21 with 3 titles and 2 runner-ups. Virginia Tech..1-1 Boston College.20-24 with 2 titles and 1 runner-up. Pittsburgh.....19-23 with 1 title and 4 runner-ups. Seton Hall.....19-25 with 2 titles. Providence.....15-25 with 1 title. Rutgers.........5-9 Miami...........6-12 West Virginia...4-10 with 1 runner-up. Notre Dame......3-11 Cincinnati......0-1 Marquette.......0-1 Louisville......0-1 DePaul..........DNQ South Florida...DNQ I think it is very important that we start dominating our conference tournament again. A sweet sixteen beats the heck out of not getting to the sweet sixteen, but it is not as sweet as a BET Title. My belief is this year's team will do both.... and maybe more. But if you are in NYC and you go to MSG.... you will be DYing to win that BET Title. No Titles since 1989? We used to OWN that tournament. First came respect. Then came fear. Its time to make them remember. Win the BET this year!

BET title - hands down. It will carry more validity in the long run than a Sweet 16 appearance (which is a good bet to happen as well if they win a BET title).
The only thing better than a BET title would be another NCAA title.

Forget the sweet 16. From the outset of the Big East, every time the Hoyas have won the BET they have gone to at least the elite 8:
1980 - Elite Eight 1982 - Chmpionship Game 1984 - NCAA Championship 1985 - Championship game 1987- Elite Eight 1989 - Elite Eight
The answer is obvious. Win the BET and let history repeat.

can we clarify by sweet sixteen, do you mean we lose in the sweet sixteen or we make it at least as far as the sweet sixteen and could ultimately go on to win the whole damn thing. if you mean we lose in the sweet sixteen then i think the BET is better for recruiting. if you mean we could go beyond it, then ill take my chances and lose the BET.

I can tell you when I posed this question originally last year, I surely meant get to but lose in the S16 vs winning BET and losing first NCAA game. Otherwise I think the question would have to be Elite 8 vs BET title...would it not?

To clarify, I'd rather crash out early in the BET and make it to the Sweet 16 (like we did last year) than win the BET and crash out early in the NCAA's (like Cuse did last year).

BET without question. this is a ridiculous discusion, i remember every bet game, tournament games against anoymous teams we will never see again are nice but dont compare. those who choose sweet 16, would you take a regular season 5 game winning streak against random mid-majors or a win against cuse? agreed that the 96 loss to usuck is something i may never get over, the loss to umass sucked but it doesnt stick with me. that loss to cuse last year will stick with me for a long time, the loss to florida not so much.

Initially I was more for the sweet sixteen, but thinking more about long term reputation and the fact we haven't won one in almost twenty years, and we dominated it, I would really love to have the BET title more. (also i would nice to be BET regular season champs too). Having the most Titles is a very nice honor.

Another vote for the Bid East Title. It's been almost 20 years. Ultimately, if you don't win it all, the season finishes on a losing note. Win the Big East tourney and you get the banner, the team gets the glory and the publicity as well as a top 2 seed. That, you cannot take away.
