I just got back from the opening session of the 2006 World Transplant Congress (an annual gathering of the American and international societies of transplant surgeons and other medical professionals in the transplantation field) at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The featured speakers at the opening session were Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and my CAS '92 classmate, and NBA World Champion, Alonzo Mourning.
Alonzo spoke about his battle with kidney disease, his 2003 kidney transplant and his current efforts to raise awareness and funds for kidney disease (www.zosfundforlife.org). It will come as no surprise to anyone here that he was fabulous. He was interesting, funny, humble, well-spoken and inspirational. You could hear a pin drop in an auditorium of 5,000+ during his talk (when people weren't laughing). It took all of my will-power (and the prospect of derailing the career of my wife - who was sitting next to me) to not do one of my Big East Tment "H--O--Y--A--S" as he was walking off the stage.
I was proud to be a Hoya today.

That's the difference between GU and Cuse basketball alumni - ours are responsible citizens who speak out about their lives as transplant survivors and are ambassabors for FIBA and the African continent - meanwhile former Cuse stars take strong stands against snitching.

Hey since Hoya Blue lost my only good GU-Cuse game tape that I loaned to them, can we watch that DVD instead before our game this year?
