From chat: Dan Arlington, VA: So here's the situation. A buddy of my from Georgetown tells me that he will likely NOT watch the Sweet 16 game live because his fiance wants to do something that night. But it's all ok because he has Tivo and can watch the game faster, though not live, that way. Is this right? Bill Simmons: (1:27 PM ET ) No. it's horrible. You should not be friends with him.

I Tivo the first two rounds. It would have worked out except we had a snowstorm on Sunday causing the DirecTv signal to be lost. Of course, by the time I figured this out, the TiVo had already missed the last 10 minutes of the first half and the first 10 of the second half. That's the first time in 3 years that's happened to me. I'll be watching live on Friday.

Wow, can't believe my comment actually made it all the way over here. Guess I shouldn't have used my real name.
And yes, I'm serious.
And no, I'm not going to point out my friend.
Watching live here...

I have a dish, it's BellExpressVu and I can watch the games either on a CBS affiliate from Washington, the state not the city:) or CBS Boston. Rogers Sportsnet here in Canada are showing the games but they basically follow suit with my CBS Boston affilate so it's really no benefit to me.
Anyway I think I saw like the last 10 min of the first round game and then I saw 20 min combined of the win vs OSU. The rest of the time I'm in front of my comp with the CBSSportsline gamecast going.
And it's not gonna get better for me because on Friday night the GU/Fla game is going at the same time as UConn/Wsh so obviously the latter's participation means the CBS West affiliate will carry that one and the former means CBS East will have it as well. The only saving grace might be if CBS Boston decides to carry GU/Fla because that's BC's next opponent. Then again I can't see them turning their back on the UConn game.
In summary...Simmons is right. This guy has a chance to watch the game live and he's turning it down?
I believe the word is whipped...

You should give your friend a Doug Christie jersey.

Would you make your girl friend take a shuttle or cab so you could watch the game live? I know I wouldn't. And I don't even have a girl friend, I just have a wife. On the other hand, not watching the game because the girl "wants to go out" doesn't cut it. Either go out for an early dinner (I assume this is someone on the East Coast) and return home to watch the game, or go out for a nightcap after the game. There are compromises available, and the chosen alternative sounds like bs.

My flight home from Florida last Sunday with my wife and toddler was scheduled for 5:40 p.m. I thought i'd be OK since the Hoyas were supposed to be the early game Sunday, and I'd catch the game at the airport bar. When I found out the game was at 5, I drove my wife to the airport, put her on the plane, ordered them a limo, watched the game at Duffy's in Jupiter, stayed with my folks an extra night and flew home on the 7:00 am Monday flight.

To be fair--last week I put her in a cab during the second half of the OSU-GU game and she graciously accepted it. She's a big college bball fan too (though I hesitate to state her team -- suffice to say Jan 21 was a very good day for me in our budding relationship) and so she totally understands that basketball is important. Jury's still out on the airport this time. But since her flight gets in at or near halftime, I'm going to just hope I miss very little of the game. I'll be watching--just might miss some of it. DCA is only ten minutes from my apartment :-P. Oh, and Coast2Coast--I plan to meet up with y'all afterwards too .

My girl has given me free reign to do whatever I want tomorrow night for the game (attend a watch party in DC) with my boys. She and I are going to go out Saturday night (I'll probably have to do something nice...) and then Sunday she has scheduled the movie theatre room in her apartment building for me to watch the game in surround sound on a 20 foot screen... TOP THAT!

My sister came to visit last weekend, and the plan called for us to go over to Union Station after the Georgetown-Ohio State game. Then, the time of the game was changed, and so was the plan. She got in a cab, I waved goodbye and went back to my apartment. This occurred during the under-8 timeout in the second half. No action was missed.
Normally I'd feel bad about shipping her out, but...well, she goes to BC. She did it to herself.

Eh, still friends with the guy. But if he waits till Saturday to watch Friday's game, you may very well all get to call him...

OK, here's my thought: if the fiance is taking him over to her best friend's place, we will forgive him - as long as he starts watching the tape within 60 seconds of getting back home. If there is nothing going on, this guy must turn in his Hoya memorabilia and root for GW next year.

No way. Our deal is that she calls me once the plane touches down and starts taxi-ing to the gate. In the time it takes for the plane to make it to the gate and for her to make it to the curb, I can get to National. The joys of living in arlington just off the GW Parkway! And worst case scenario I hear Pops on the radio for a bit. There are worse things in life!
