I have had vile, debased and unforgivable thought ever since 9:00 last night that I cannot get out of my brain - I wish we had a guy like McNamara. A guy with cojones as big as bowling balls, who could play through pain and injury, who could carry a team on his back, with the mere force of his will and intensity, to whom his teammates looked for inspiration and for leadership at critical times. We need that player. I hope we find him soon. Mea culpa, mea culpa, Hail Mary and give me forgiveness.

We've been talking all season about how we don't have a go-to-guy, a guy who wants the ball in tight situations, and a guy who wants impose his will on an opposing team and inspire his teammates to do great things.
We still don't have one. That is not going to change from December to now, or from now until next week. That is not an indictment of our team (we still have several solid players who can contribute and do great things), but it is just not in any of their personalities to act like that. Brandon showed signs of it this week (ND, Marquette, 1st half of SU), and it's my hope that he'll carry that into the NCAAs. Because (aside from Roy's displaying of emotion, which I loved) he's the closest thing we have at this point to somebody who wants it right now.

And since I didn't want to start another McNamara thread, I'll put it here. College Gameday just had a special where Erin Andrews was interviewing G-Mac 1 on 1. And she was ridiculously knowledgeable about Saved By The Bell (for your average 22-23 year old, THE premier show on TV during your childhood years), apparently also G-Macs favorite show growing up. As if Erin Andrews wasn't already hot enough. Anytime you can look like that AND be a SBTB buff = KEEPER.

Funny, I don't recall anybody on this board slobbering over GMac after we spanked them February 25.... Let's see what Mr. Go-To-Guy does from here on out.

I wasn't slobbering over him (if you only knew how much I hate SU and everything associated with them!), I was really wishing we had a guy with that kind of guts who could carry us on his back. Jeff/Roy still have 2 years to get there, and who knows what the new guys will bring us next year - but I wish we had it now!

Your go-to guy doesn't have to be a PG...JG has the skills (perimeter shot, handle vs. other 3/4s guarding him, hops, post moves, ability to drive, draw and dish) to be a very effective go-to.
He lacks the go-to or killer mentality. That "give me the damn ball, I'm winning this game" mentality. That same unselfishness that makes him such a dangerous player (triple threat) every time he touches the ball, really hampers him in late, close-game situations.
He has the skills, he needs to develop the mindset.

Can you say cojones here? Can you say McNamara? I was going to stick with "Ratboy", but after he sliced our hearts out friday, that seemed kind of hollow.

This has been a problem with the Hoyas since Mourning left. No players with fire in the belly that they put the team on their back. Iverson and Page were great talents, but they weren't the leaders that they could be like Othella or Ya-Ya, respectively.
Sweetney, for all of his greatness, was just too nice of a guy. His demeanor was just too nonchalant.
I think Hibbert is coming out of his shell a little bit. Sead has the enthusiasm and vigor, but just not the talent to translate it on court. I think with Ewing, Jr. coming in, it will give us that tenacity that is much needed on this team.

This has been a problem with the Hoyas since Mourning left. Mourning didn't get the Hoyas out of the second round, or make it to the finals of the BE tournament after Charles Smith graduated. I was a huge Zo fan when he was at Georgetown, but I can't really remember him carrying the Hoyas on his back in an important game.

Try his entire Senior year. Look at the "talent" he was surrounded with.
