I'm completely convinced the ultimate sign of how the committee deals with the RPI will be in the case of Missouri St.
Here is the resume: RPI: 21 SOS: 45 RPI Top 50: 4-8 Non Conference RPI: 6
All of this screams out no-brainer NCAA tournament team...except it's not even close IMO. No way do they make it. The only non-conference game against a team in the RPI Top 100 was a loss at Arkansas. 3 out of the 4 "good" wins were at home and all against teams in-conference.
If they get in over a major conference team that actually plays people outside the conference then they've proven that the system can be beat by creative scheduling.
No chance is hell is that an NCAA tournament quality team especially after being waxed by 15 and only scoring 42 points in their first round conference tournament.
Rant is over...for now...until I start researching the other frauds in the MVC...and CAA for that matter (3 teams...please).

Northern Iowa on the other hand deserves to be in with a lowe RPI. Beating Iowa and LSU gets you in. At least they try to play real teams.

I think that the idea that MVC teams will get more than 2 or maybe 3 teams in is a joke, but this article made me like the MVC more. How classic. I bet Gary didn't think about this before spouting off to the Post. P.S. If Maryland and/or Syracuse make it this year, the selection process has really become a joke.

I think there's probably a greater spread in the mid-majors: their bad teams are REALLY bad and the overall quality is unquestionably lower. In the Big East, the worst can hang tough with the best and you can get some pretty crazy results on the right night (see Depaul and cuse). The mid-major top tier has shown they can be competitive and even victorious in matchups with the big boys, though, which makes sense: in basketball, you have far fewer scholarships per team to spread around a huge talent pool, as compared with football where the top teams have 100+ people in their team and freeze the lower-level competition out of the recruiting battle to a greater extent. It's not surprising that there would be a significant amount of parity among quite a few programs.

Southern Illinois won the tournament, Zo. So are you saying that the MVC will get only two?

N. Iowa, with wins over LSU and Iowa, will certainly go too.

I agree with Joe Hoya here. I think you all downgrade the MVC at your peril. Their teams pull off upsets regularly in the NCAA tournament. Five teams may be a stretch, but they surely get more than two. And while I haven't mentioned this once in the last year, I think all you MVC disparagers should note that THIS IS THE LAST TWO NCAA HOYATALK POOL DEFENDING CHAMPIONS TALKING HERE. So Joe and I will stand tall against all comers. Right, Joe?

Everyone's favorite, Dickie V., is saying that the MVC will get 5 in, but 6 of them have claims to get in. sports.espn.go.com/dickvitale/060307VitaleonMissouriValleyConference.html"Southern Illinois punched its ticket by winning the conference tournament. Wichita State won the regular-season title. Northern Iowa earned wins over LSU and Iowa en route to a super season. Bradley's resumé includes a trip to the MVC final. Creighton has wins over Xavier and Nebraska as well as a victory at George Mason. Missouri State had a big victory at Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the BracketBusters event. " OK, so maybe Southern Illinois, Wichita State and Northern Iowa. The justifications for the other 3 are pretty weak. However, I have to give Dickie V. credit --- five short paragraphs and he manages to get in his world-renowned tenure at the University of Detroit And I know it is a bit anal but I could not help but notice this gem: "These MVC teams can play with anyone in America; all they need is a chance, an opportunity." Off to the Department of Redundancy Department, Dickie.

dooky V's bracket probably has 150 teams in it, and dook probably has a bye until the championship game.

dooky V's bracket probably has 150 teams in it, and dook probably has a bye until the championship game. That is so true. All he ever talks about is who deserves to be in, he never would go so far as upsetting someone in the frat by saying they don't deserve a bid, at least not until the seeds are announced. I cannot wait to see him apoplectic yet again over the one or two highest ranked mid-majors who do not make it.

Tired of the whine. Big 10/11 schools pull the same stuff. I know only Indiana will play Southern Illinois and SIU beat them. I believe they play 1-1 again next year. The whine is only another excuse not to play teams from the MVC. MVS teams called Williams' bluff and he backed down. Have another drink Williams!
