Detroit News: "Q . How is Michigan's non-conference schedule shaping up for next season? A . The Wolverines have to add one more game. They have a few challenging road games -- at UCLA and Miami (Ohio), and they'll play on the road in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge against an opponent to be determined. The home schedule includes Georgetown, Army, Northern Illinois, Harvard, Youngstown State and Maryland-Baltimore County. This season, Michigan went 10-1 in nonconference, and that will be difficult to duplicate next year. But while it will be tough to replace seniors Daniel Horton, Graham Brown and Chris Hunter, the Wolverines should be picked to finish in the top five in the Big Ten next season." www.detroitnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060224/SPORTS02/602240372/1131/SPORTS0201

I don't know what their recruiting class looks like for next year, but they'll lose Daniel Horton and Lester Abram. Very happy to see UM on the schedule. Would be even happier if they replaced Stetson (again, the SSU game was a favor).

All I have to say is that we better have a statistician help establish our OOC schedule next year so we have a better strength of schedule while not sacrificing our Win/Loss record.
Higher RPI = Higher Poll Position = More National Coverage = Better Recruits = More $$$ = Better Facilities = On-Campus Arena (someday) = Higher RPI = Higher Poll Position = More National Coverage = Better Recruits = More $$$ = Better Facilities = On-Campus Arena (someday) = Higher RPI = Higher Poll Position = More National Coverage = Better Recruits = More $$$ = Better Facilities = On-Campus Arena (someday) = Higher RPI = Higher Poll Position = More National Coverage = Better Recruits = More $$$ = Better Facilities = On-Campus Arena (someday) = Higher RPI = Higher Poll Position = More National Coverage = Better Recruits = More $$$ = Better Facilities = On-Campus Arena (someday)...

Haven't we been promised @ Michigan for the last 3 years, only to have it disappear in August or September every time?

Great. The last eight or so years the program has taken part of home and homes with these teams:
Virginia South Carolina UCLA Duke (twice) UNLV Temple Louisville Illinois Oregon Penn State Vanderbilt
This has allowed the Hoyas to play non-tournament REGULAR season games in some of the most storied college arenas in the nation. Now we can officially add Michigan to that list. Remaining wish list...
North Carolina Kansas Arizona Michigan State Indiana Kentucky Missouri

Sounds good, but I remain skeptical. There was an article in the HOYA last year with JT III quoted as saying that we'd be playing Michigan this year, and it didn't happen. Maybe this is a more reliable source, but I guess I'll just believe it when I see it. Should be a fun game though, their arena is a tough place to play.

Remaining wish list... North Carolina Kansas Arizona Michigan State Indiana Kentucky Missouri Much rather Stanford or Gonzaga than Mizzou or Arizona. Also would like to see BC back on the schedule, though I am certain that will be an incredibly unpopular stance with most of this board. And although not a powerhouse historically, it would be fun to play Northwestern.

I'd rather play Northwestern, but I don't see it happening because we play DePaul and others in that general vicinity. We've played Illinois recently too. It would be nice to expand our presence in other areas, like at Gonzaga, as you mentioned. As bad as Rice is as a program, that might be another area of exploration on the concept of scheduling peer institutions, broadly defined.

Similar reasoning could be applied to why we are unlikely to schedule Penn. This is me being a total admissions nerd, but I think an inseason tournament with our recruiting partners Duke, Penn, and Harvard would be fun, perhaps rotating from Boston-Philly-DC-Durham. Also could include Stanford when they join the group next year.

LOL. Only if such contests could be coupled with pregame info sessions presented by GU Admissions. I could see a GU/Harvard matchup next year because it would give Rivers a "homecoming" of sorts, given that Doc Rivers is, for now, the coach of the Celtics.
I think some of it depends on how the BE schedule plays out. If we get DePaul at home next year, go ahead and move with Northwestern. In theory, it is a great idea, but I doubt JT3 would want to coach against Carmody, who is a colleague from the Princeton days. If we get Nova at home next year, I'm all in favor of playing Penn.

Penn might pull off the occasional upset when one of us was down, but Harvard, I'm guessing, would go o-fer-forever.

Well Harvard has played Duke before, but I guess an inseason tournament would also have problems for two conference foes likely to meet in the consolation bracket every year. Maybe sub Stanford for Harvard and we could have something fun. Playing Harvard separately would not be an RPI boost, but it would be way to get an occasional game in the Boston market with its large alumni population.

What's wrong with Chicago overload? However, Northwestern is typically toward the bottom of the Big 10, the arena is awful (my back still hurts from that Oden-Scheyer game), and purple is a really ugly color. Better to keep up the Illinois relationship and try to get into their annual United Center game.

Kudos to the staff for getting this game on our OOC schedule! That's the kind of game that will be on TV.

That's a good game. Will be interesting to see how early in the season we play Michigan. Losing all those seniors, plus perhaps their coach, might mean that earlier in the season a win against Michigan would be more impressive than later in the season...if they've turned out to be dogs. That said, Michigan's recruiting class is supposed to be good.
Either way, great "name" to have on the sched.
