His partner, Dave O'Brien, isn't exactly slim himself these days. He really should stick to baseball. The Cubs tried to get O'Brien when Chip Caray left, but ESPN wouldn't let him out of the remaining year on his contract.

At least as of last year, O'Brien did some Mets games on TV. Not sure if that will again be the case.
Man I can't wait for CBS to take over. Gus Johnson? Craig Bolerjack? Dick Enberg? Verne Lundquist? Jim Nantz? Tim Brando? Ian Eagle? Kevin Harlan?
All better than anyone ESPN has to offer for PBP. Assuming there are no first round changes this year, I'd rank them this way:
1. Gus Johnson 2. Craig Bolerjack 3. Verne Lundquist 4. Jim Nantz 5. Dick Enberg 6. Kevin Harlan 7. Tim Brando 8. Ian Eagle

Well, no more "I don't give a bleep about Carolina," Bonnie - and I heard on TK's show that Keteyian is leaving sports to focus on news.
Can someone PLEASE get rid of Wenzel? Or at least pair him with Lundquist so they can have a pair even older than today's Criqui-Wenzel combo.

Great job by you guys bringing up CBS Announcers--and may I add that Bolerjack is closest thing I've heard to to a "Modern Day" Gary Bender--who used to be one of my favorites--and is still a solid announcer.
I'd go Gus, Bolerjack, Nantz, Eagle--who is underrated and always has good NCAA games, and then drop off to Lundquist, and last of all of them is homoerotic Enberg who creeps me out with his calls in ANY sport.

Unfortunately, part of James Brown's move from FOX over to CBS apparently includes his doing PBP for the tournament. This means somebody moves down the chain, and somebody gets eliminated altogether. Hopefully its Brando they drop altogether (rather than Bolerjack, who I think is fantastic), but my biggest fear is that this means they'll drop Gus Johnson from that top four group, meaning we'll only get him the first weekend. That would be a travesty. Nobody feeds the at-home viewer the excitement of the moment like Gus. Here's the link on JB's move: cbs.sportsline.com/cbssports/story/9212315

I like Enberg because he was Al McGuire's partner for so long. But he is slipping. CBS is moving him down to third team for the NFL (behind Nantz/Simms and whoever they pair Greg Gumbel with now that he's moving back over from the studio)

Dick Enberg is awful. When he was with Bill Walton (and I believe Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as well) a few years ago was the only time I've ever watched a game on mute.
I would like to have Gus Johnson follow me around and do play-by-play for my daily life...
"Joe's making his move through the door now, past the line, he knows he's a bit early...wait, what's that? He takes a shot...YES! THAT'S HIS ORDER! It's already ready!! I can't believe it! Wisemiller's does it again!"

Don't forget that Gus has made the famous Al McGuire "Holy Mackerel" a regular part of his repertoire. I love it. Its not March Madness until you get a "Holy Mackerel" out of Gus.

This all brings up another important issue...that is, who will be the announcing pairs for the BET this year? I ask because although everyone might assume that Shulman/Raftery/Bilas and McDonough/Elmore will be there, you know that Vitale always wants to horn in on big ESPN events and may lobby for a spot. Any thoughts?

Vitale usually takes ACC tournament duty if I'm not mistaken.
You've probably got it right. Mike Tirico used to do it but I think that was before the NBA moved over to ESPN.

Agree with David Brent except it'll probably be McDonough/Raft/Bilas and Shulman/Elmore, and Bilas might go back to the studio on Friday and Saturday. Vitale won't leave dook's side. Only wild card is if one of the PBP guys is doing the World Baseball Classic, which I think starts the same week.

The Ian Eagle/Spirnarkal crew is one of the best. Not flashy at all, but very good.
They are one of the few crews that make the game itself the important thing...instead of the self promoting folks out there in ESPN/CBS land.

Spanarkel's bio on CBS Sportsline says he does work for ESPN-plus, but I've never seen him work a game there. Maybe he lives in Big 12 or Big Ten country.
