1)I and a few others have been saying it since this summer: Ewing will start as soon as he is eligible to play. And he's gonna be very good. 2)Next season this team will a)need players to make harder cuts to the basket, b)will need guys like Jeremiah and Jesse to penetrate to make up for a loss of perimeter shooting, c)will need to play Josh for at least 15 minutes a game to give the team more of an outside threat, d)will need to press, a whole lot more (even if Roy is in the lineup) to create more scoring opportunities, e)will need to play more players to keep people fresh after that pressing, f)will need Roy to take another huge step up and g)will need Jeff to be so good that he is a true candidate for BE Player of the Year. From what I have seen.. I agree with you MCI. I would add that Jeff will continue to be both a starter and our backup center. His effectiveness at running the offense from the high post will not be displaced by Macklin in year 1. Secondly, I HOPE that Josh can contribute 15 minutes and his great shot. But it would seem that he needs to develop a lot more discipline offensively... and probably defensively as well. Having seen him only in a few brief moments in garbage time, it is hard to make credible assessments, but that's what it looks like. And I hope most of us are underestimating Rivers. If he can contribute right away as a frosh it would be a big lift. Same with SUmmers. Regardless, we will have three 3-year starters in Roy, Jeff and Jon. Ewing with a full year of the system and 2 years of D1 ball. Jessie with some fairly significant minutes and a year under his belt. That is a great start right there! Then we have the unknown contributions from second year men Marc, Josh and Tay. And we add three very talented frosh. That will give JT3 a far more talented and experienced squad than he had his first year. He will build a very good team from that group. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see another summer of significant development on our guys as we saw this year with Roy and Jon. Finally, as for Macklin taking games and plays off.. with Jon and Jeff around (not to mention JT3) ... that is going to be really tough.

DaJuan's McDonogh squad didn't actually play against St. Alban's. They played Jefferson High from San Antonio, Texas and then Germantown Academy the next night. DaJuan looked awesome both nights but his game against Germantown was shortened when he fouled out at the end of the 3rd quarter. He has the ability to post up, drive to the basket and also hit the outside shot. His game truly does have a lot of similarities to Jeff's game. They aren't exactly the same player of course, but Jeff and DaJuan have a lot of the same skills, so I expect DaJuan to be extremely good.

I hesitate to use the Jeff comparison because I think that makes expectations pretty high for DaJuan, and it may be tough for him to show everything he's got in what figures to be a pretty crowded frontcourt. However, the similarities are undeniably there. He really has a very good all around game, inside and out. He's got a very well-developed game. He's definitely good enough to contribute immediately. This time next year, we're going to be so glad we have him, IMO.

I think Dajuan may be more versatile than Jeff at the same stage simply because his outside game seems to be farther along. Jeff had his threes last year, but he is just more confident along the perimeter this year.
This is not to say Dajuan can or will do more than Jeff did as a frosh but simply to suggest that Dajuan can be more of a perimeter player as a frosh than Jeff was for us last season.
BTW, I think we're ignoring Tay Spann in many discussions about next year's team. I've tracked him a bit in warm-ups, and his outside shot is really progressing. He's done a good job on the glass in the limited time he's seen. I wouldn't be surprised if he got 5-10 minutes next year.

After watching tonight's game, I'm ready to hear more about how our recruits can bang it inside both offensively and defensively. We're living and dying by our three-point shots. We should have more plays that don't end up with someone shooting the 3 with 2 seconds left.
