Class of 2000....two days after I send in my acceptance letter to Georgetown, Allen Iverson delcares for the NBA draft. And it all went downhill from there. I went to a game at UselessAir Arena my sophomore year versus Cleveland St where I'm pretty sure it was me, the band, and three of my buddies in the entire student section. The basketball highlight of my four years was the 3-OT UVa game my senior year, but even that was appropriately followed by a thumping received at the hands of Cal.

'05 is the worst ... i was in it ... you can't really compare classes in the '60s b/c you didnt expect gtown to be any good. we were ranked in the top 15 coming into the "01-'02 season

Class of '86. ONLY 2 Final Fours. Had to get to the Cap Center really early to get a good seat in the student section. Had to help my friend at Duke get over the hardship of being an also-ran in the ACC.
Seriously though, it's tough any time the team doesn't meet expectations, and they were quite high in the Ewing years. Losing to "Nova in '85 hurt more than any of the many late game collapses 01-04.

Worst class is 2000 easily. They saw 70 wins in four years flanked on either side by 54 wins in two years. That's just horrible luck.
And they watched JT leave. Any Hoya basketball fan who watched the big guy step down gets a million bonus points in the "worst class" game.

Hi. I'm hoyahoyasaxa, and I am a survivor. I was '03.
I agree that the Sweet 16 makes everything a little better, even though there was so much pain during those years. Watching Sweetney was good too, but that was hard because I always felt those teams had so much potential, and then they would always dissappoint. I always thought it was the coaching...but that's been discussed on too many other threads.
I had student season tickets all four years, but probably went to about three games my senior year. It was too hard to go knowing we would probably lose. By that time, all of my friends and roommates had begun to root against the team so that Esherick would finally be fired. It was terrible. I am always the eternal optimist, but by the middle of senior year, I just couldn't pay any attention to the team (better than rooting against them). I don't even really remember much about the '03 season.
Luckily, I was overseas in '04, so I didn't even have to experience that season at all besides checking the scores (yep, we lost again) and having my Duke friends gloating about them beating us. When Esherick got fired, and after the hiring of JTIII, I finally felt I was able to really throw myself back into rooting for the team again, because there finally was hope.
And then we had last year...beating 'Nova, beating ND at MCI (which definitely made up for the 4OT game), and almost making the NCAA tournament. Back in DC, I went to almost all of the home games and both the NIT games. This season I have young alum season tickets (with many of my formerly disillusioned '03 friends and roommates). Great to be a fan again.

I was abroad for my junior year, so Pops stepping down was a bit blunted. I came home for Christmas and went to a game against future national champions UCon at Storrs that was an absolute debacle. That was Pops' next to last game. I then flew back to Dublin, and almost immediately upon logging into my email I found out about our new head coach.
