K-State forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin was dismissed from the Wildcats’ basketball program on Wednesday, bringing an apparent end to the saga that has loomed over Jerome Tang’s program since the beginning of the 2023-24 season.
However, poor communication amongst the K-State administration has led to an uncomfortable and difficult situation for Tomlin, his family, and the Kansas State basketball team.
According to Fox 4’s Grant Flanders, Tomlin’s family traveled from out of town to see him play against Villanova on Tuesday. However, Tomlin was on the bench but was in street clothes and not able to participate in the Wildcats’ 72-71 OT win.

Really? Have posters on this Board not realized what Cooley is trying to establish? Bringing a guy like Tomlin on for one semester while guys who came here to help rebuild this program would be expected to move aside to give Tomlin pt?? Plus the guy will make Brandon Murray look like a team player. Let's stop this silliness and focus on what we have now and what we may be getting next year.

A lot of conjecture with no basis for it. I think everyone on the board is saying that we don't even know if Cooley would be open to it. He fills an obvious deficiency in THIS year's team. He can only play 1 semester if he comes here. Has nothing to do with next year at all. Also his issues are nothing like Murray's. If what the police report and what kansas st boards are saying happened. It seems like a unfortunate circumstances where he didn't defuse a situation rather than putting kindling on it. Seems like you are in that gotta give Mutombo Pt crowd cause he has been loyal.

Nothing about what Coach is trying to do says you can’t bring in a hired gun for 20 games. That’s what this is - a seasoned guy who is apparently well loved by fellow students at KState, has a history of doing a few things well that we need - rebounding, scoring, post defense & boxing out - and may have a good relationship with st least one current member of our squad. That’s what this all comes down to for me - if Ish say “green light,” then I say pull the trigger and give it a shot. Worst case there is some overlap w Supreme and he eats some of Cooks minutes, but the best case is Bubble City w 10 Big East wins and that’s a chance I am OK taking

Could be the missing piece we need to get us into the tournament. With the loss to Holy Cross, we’re not making the NCAA Tournament.

Hope we at least take a good hard look at him. Like others have said, with his high basketball IQ and his coach-on-the-floor mentality, I trust that Ish would have pretty good insight as to whether Tomlin would be a good fit team chemistry and locker room atmosphere wise.
Even though we might not be the most attractive destination in terms of competitiveness right now, as a super raw, hyper-athletic project who only began playing competitive ball after high school, I'm sure he could benefit greatly under the tutelage of our current coaching staff. Scouts tell him he needs an NBA body, well get him in the weight room with Cook (who is at his target weight BTW) and run him through Coach White's S&C program. Not really sure what our chances are but I have to say this is pretty intriguing.

I would hope we wouldn’t take a guy who got kicked out of Kansas State. Did we not learn our lesson with Josh LeBlanc? Boya not being on board just ices it for me.

Trilly Donovan has a pretty strong track record on these things. The fact he lists us (and first at that) lead me to believe there is a real possibility this could happen. The Ish connection I wouldn’t downplay either. The lists of schools were alphabetical. That said, I’m sure the staff will do their diligence on this one (as well basically half the high major programs in the country given Tomlin’s talent level).

This story tells me that Kansas St administration never intended on having him back on the team and was trying to figure a way to have him graduate(for the APR) and then move him somewhere so they wouldn't have to answer questions on why he was playing.

In today’s environment this is the benefit of having a proven coach who is building a culture. Gives you the opportunity to bring in cast-offs if you do your diligence and can get them to buy into the culture, if only for a semester. Of course there are risks but even with a guy who is/was “on draft boards”, NBA analytics and scouting are so different nowadays. Dudes don’t have to put up 20ppg in college to be viewed as valuable on an NBA roster, so if you can integrate someone it can work. Much different that the Ewing era hired-gun approach (which I do think started with the best intentions, but fell apart quickly).

I don't think it's a year one thing. JT3 wasn't bringing in Josh Smith in his first year, Bill Belichick wasn't bringing in Randy Moss in year one.

While again, this seems unlikely, concerns about it taking away from the roster or individual players are foolish. We desperately NEED another body in the frontcourt rotation. Between the 80 minutes if Massoud played 28. Cook played 17. Tomlin played 25. And Fielder played 10. That would hurt nothing. You still get Fielder time to develop. Massoud doesn't have to play 35+ minutes a night. Cook can focus on being a physical banger for about 15 to 20 a game in the paint rather than your main center.
It makes a ton of sense purely from a basketball perspective.

If there's a terrible take out there, hoyaboya will post it.

If there's a terrible take out there, hoyaboya will post it. Who should we trust - Fran Frachilla, who covers the Big 12 inside and out every year for ESPN, or TC, who probably never heard of Nae'Qwan Tomlin before yesterday?
