Having watched him play I’m not sure he’s a BE caliber starter, but he can contribute something off the bench in a position of need. Maybe Cooley can get more out of him too… He's not a 30mpg guy for sure

Has anyone here, other than Daveg023, actually seen Mr. Cook play in a game? If so, would love your thoughts. Dave has been clear he sees him as a solid backup at this level. However, others seem convinced he's the starter. Have those folks had a chance to watch him play beyond highlights? I've seen him play before. I agree with Daveg assessment. He isn't a BE starter. But he definitely will battle and I'm fine with that.

Hey...we need depth as well. Sounds like a good get, either way.

I mean if you look at the recent / current bigs in the league (Sanogo, Kalkbrenner, Fremantle, Soriano, Nunge, Clingan, Watson, Dixon) he’s nowhere near their class. At this point in the cycle, he’s a solid add for the bench, but I wouldn’t hold out hope for much more.

Dont know anything about this dude, but this doesn't seem like a reach. Why would coach, who has been diligent with his scholarships, all of a sudden hand one out to a guy who is not BE caliber?

My only comment is I don’t think he’s a plug and play starter in the BE. But there’s more than just a starting five to put out there. I think Cook can contribute off the bench.

Because I think he wants a guy to take some of the burden off of Fielder who will end up playing some Center to have to play against those big guys DaveG mentioned. he's a tough kid who will battle, you arent gonna find a 15/8 guy out there right now.

He seems like a good rebounder and can box out. This is something Akok can’t do either because he is physically weak in the lower body or just doesn’t like to. That limits Akok to being a 3 or 4 man who won’t really help out positionally in the paint. Massoud also is a horrible rebounder at the 3 or 4. So this means our five needs to be a guy who is willing to box out and clean the glass. Supreme seems to check that box. His block shot numbers seem to be low even though he has some lift but this may be because he concentrates on boxing out his man rather than jumping for blocks. This is a positional need based on the composition of the team. I would still like one more proven 260 lbs space eater who can start for us from the portal.

Ive seen Cook. I think he starts and plays 20-25 mins. Our system is tailor made for him. Sort of like A Croswell role. Very good rebounder that can post up and get some duck ins.
If Ryan starts it will be because he made a huge leap.

If Ryan starts it will be because he made a huge leap. I think even if Ryan makes a leap he will have foul issues going up against guys like Kalkbrenner, Soriano, Dixon and Clingan. So realistically best case scenario probably can only get 15 good minute from him. supreme can play maybe 25 minutes and maybe 250 lbs Sorbor reclassifies so we have centers by committee. There’s a good chance Kalkbrenner and Clingan will likely eat Mutombo (skill level and speed disparity) and Supreme (due to size/height disparity) alive. I would still like one more proven big boy because we are in trouble if there is an injury or Mutombo is a bust. (if Supreme and Mutombo are our only centers.) We need a proven big who we can cart out there to physically contain Kalkbrenner and Clingan.

Solidly built and knows how to use his body. Will play 15 plus minutes a game.

I'm not throwing cold water on the move, just keeping expectations reasonable as I don't think he matches Wahab's production level, nor will he get the same minutes. It's much more going to be a center by committee approach if Akok, Cook, Fielder, and Mutombo are the only bigs on the roster next year.

People are forgetting that the MAAC does have some decent bigs. Jackson Stormo of Siena and Nelly Joseph of Iona. It's not like he is scoring over 6'6 guys like MAAC of the past. Stormo gave Wahab fits.

There’s a good chance Kalkbrenner and Clingan will likely eat Mutombo (skill level and speed disparity) and Supreme (due to size/height disparity) alive. If we can stop Creighton from hitting 20 threes against us, letting Kalkbrenner have a field day would be a huge improvement. Providence only allowed 10 threes (7 and 3) against Creighton in their two meetings last year. I'm pretty sure we gave up that many in one half.

I posted a coaching clinic video with a drill that had Cooley talking about how limiting the 3s is a big part of what he focuses on.
