Coach Cooley will raise our floor dramatically right away. With the additional resources, fertile recruiting ground, and national brand, I think coach can take us beyond what he did at PC. His ability to retain players and connect with students/alums/fans also make this a great hire. Welcome and good luck coach.

If not a home run hire...arguably a stand-up triple. Ed Cooley has proven he can coach at this level, and will have far more in the way of resources at Georgetown than he ever could have had at Providence. We could have done much, much worse.
Good luck, coach...especially if Ronny Thompson still has a office and a key to the building.

Coach Cooley graduated from Stonehill College, which is a Holy Cross college (CSC) like Notre Dame and the University of Portland. Welcome Coach.

Will the TAC be open for our former players?

From everything I've seen watching Providence through my dad (lifelong fan's) experience, I think Cooley is going to open things up considerably from the closed-door approach of the past, in terms of interactions with all stakeholders--students, donors, media, and I would certainly imagine former players being in that group.
I think he's a good coach, but he seems to also be a great program-builder, which is an even more dire need for us at this point. I expect to see some things move into the 21st century in the GU basketball program.

It was very important for the program to hire a coach with a very high “floor” - much moreso than a high “ceiling” since the latter is going to inherently carry significant bust potential. We can’t have another bust— we just had one and the program basically bottomed out. Cooley, I would submit, has zero bust potential— and may have a higher ceiling than anyone realizes now that he’s got Georgetown’s NIL resources and the DMV in his backyard.
The worst we’re going to get from Cooley is “solid”. After the past couple years, I’m okay with that. And I think he’ll far surpass that standard before he’s done here.

Welcome aboard Coach Cooley. I have watched you over the years at Providence with nothing but admiration and respect for you as a class act with young student/athletes. Your demeanor on the court is exceptional.
Wishing you years of success at Georgetown and hope you are able to get off to a nice start with all the loose ends you must deal with. It sounds like you are bringing your current staff along as well as a DMV recruiter. This should help change the culture on the Hilltop. After what we have been through recently their is excitement and patience as you build your own "ship". Best of fortune.

Welcome to the Hilltop coach.
All things considered I think we all would have been positively THRILLED with this news just a month ago if we believed we could get him. I had my doubts. Very happy with this hire.

FWIW, Junior's take on the Cooley hiring: The John Thompson era at Georgetown is over. It ended on Monday, after 51 years, when the school named Ed Cooley to replace Patrick Ewing as its men’s basketball coach. In a twist, Cooley comes to Georgetown from Providence — Thompson’s alma mater. Thompson coached Georgetown for more than 26 seasons, but well beyond that tenure, his presence — even after his death — has been impossible to miss. The hiring of Cooley, an outsider, was both inevitable and necessary. The 53-year-old is a proven program builder, first for five seasons at Fairfield and then for 12 at Providence. That city is his home, so his decision to leave could not have been an easy one, not after establishing the Friars in the top half of a very competitive league for the last 10 winters. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/03/20/ed-cooley-hoyas-georgetown/

Great hire. Very excited as I always hated playing his teams. They were always prepared and made great adjustments to give us trouble even when they didn’t necessarily have the most outstanding talent. I expect a level of discipline and accountability from his program that we have not seen for awhile. I also expect better development of players and a playing structure that maximizes their strengths. Very pleased with this hire. Congratulations to all of us! I

Welcome, Coach Cooley! So happy to have this process come to an end and to have a coach like Ed Cooley be the end result. It's been a wild ride....both over the past 8 years and through this whole process. Now we move on and get ready to watch winning basketball again! It's a long time coming. Can't wait to see the developments over the next few weeks and months as we see what our 2023-24 Hoyas will look like!
