There will be a couple of games this year where we get red hot and the other team is ice cold. Those will be our wins. It’ll have nothing to do with coaching, just probability distribution.

We aren't beating Xavier. They aren't monsters, but they are a lot better then every team we have played to date. So after we start 0-2 in the Big East we will have a shot against another bottom dweller in Depaul at Depaul. We better win that one or the January 1st game against Butler at home as those are two of our easiest W's of the regular BE season. Who will be there on Jan. 1st? I expect a phantom crowd of 5,293. I'm going PR. Taking the family mainly because we like a sushi spot in Chinatown and can bounce at half if the game stinks (and the tickets are free). It will be my first in person game after attending over 90% every year for the past 20.

We better win that one or the January 1st game against Butler at home as those are two of our easiest W's of the regular BE season. The calls for a change will be extremely loud if we start 0-4. For the sake of the children, I hope we don't find ourselves there (and by children, I mean Ronny, not our players). If we start 0-4 we will have tied Depaul (which did it twice) for most consecutive losses in a Big East regular season at 24 (Happy New Year!) and have the overall record (including BET) of 25 in our sites (also DePaul). And yes, coincidentally we have streaks of 20 going right now for both regular season only and for overall games (including tournament), because we were 0-20 overall last year (0-19 regular season of course, plus the tourney loss) and lost our last regular season game in 20-21 before going on the magical tourney run, which included our last BE win, over Creighton in the final). Of the first five games we play in conference (in order: Xavier, at UConn, at DePaul, Butler New Year’s Day and Villanova) the most poorly ranked in KenPom today is DePaul at 98. Xavier is 30. Hoyas are currently 163. The sixth game, at Marquette #31, could be quite the historic clash…

The same could have been said last year. And it never happened. We can’t get red hot from 3 and win a game that way if we don’t even try to shoot 3s.

Georgetown is having virtual media availability at 11 A.M. Will Pat face the tough questions we all want answered? Hmmm

Yikes!! This might call for a change of my prediction. They make a lot but don’t shoot very many. Of course, they have a coach who is not brain dead so they’ll probably adjust and win by 20.

They actually have a very good coach. Not saying I want Miller as Hoyas coach but he has done well in his coaching career. He comes from a family of coaches as his dad is one of the most successful coaches in Pennsylvania high school hoops.

By every metric on and off the court, we have the worst coach in the BE and possibly one of the worst coaches out of all the power conferences. Yet , we have a huge budget and pay the coach handsomely. It just doesn’t make real world sense. 🤔

Xavier will be bigger than us which certainly is not going to help with rebounding. Their bigs can go outside and hit the shot--another challenge for our "defense" and for Wahab Bradley/or that big kid at the end of the bench who never plays. One thing in common is that Miller also relies upon a short rotation and plays his starters a lot. Barring some highly unlikely combination of a breakout game from Wahab, consistent ball movement on offense without the my turn mentality, better than average shooting by the perimeter players, a major contribution on offense from Akok and some semblance of a defense, this will get ugly very quickly.
Not sure it matters any more, but a blowout loss at home in front of a small crowd, many of whom will be Xavier fans (if I recall from some previous "home" games against them) is only going to cement the program's image as a national laughing stock. While this will undoubtedly make some happy in the hopes that it will hasten the departure of Ewing (which based on all prior evidence seems very improbable), I think it just makes the inevitable rebuild that much harder. In an era of one and done basketball due to the transfer rules and coaching moves, I am not certain any quality coach or player is going to want to come here and undertake a massive, multi-year rebuild unless there is some glimmer that a turnaround can occur quickly. Playing well in conference and showing that this team is only a quality coach away from being competitive again would help. Still want Ewing gone ASAP but will be rooting like hell for the Hoyas tomorrow.

I want the Hoyas to win games, but this one just isn't happening barring a miracle. And Sean Miller won't face sanctions, so that should make Xavier happy: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/35251879/sources-xavier-sean-miller-face-sanctions-arizona-caseIt's just funny to me that the holier than thou set at Georgetown scoffs at the notion of Rick Pitino, and yet Xavier, another Catholic institution dumped a coach that was much better than Ewing (Steele) and hired someone facing charges of corruption/violations because they are that committed to winning. Georgetown isn't, because it'd rather just let inertia continue, keep it in the family, and let the program fall to new depths. That's the difference. It's really a tale of two differences. After 4 years, Travis Steele was fired, even though his teams were not horrible. They were ranked 66, 45, 66, and 53 on KenPom. After 4 years, Ewing's teams were ranked 94, 100, 67, and 63, and he got a massive extension. And of course it's only gotten worse, with last year's team ranked 175, and this year at 165. While I would not advocate hiring him, Travis Steele would be a massive upgrade over Ewing.

The folks involved in managing it couldn’t find work anywhere else.
