Kinda what my PC buddy said to me an hour ago, his thought was it looks good on paper but it's not worth all that much... Thinking Hopkins is probably the key. Floyd is an unknown. The others—OK numbers on not very good teams. The Carter kid can really play. Our game was kinda his coming out party but he had other good games early in the season....

How is one supposed to develop a strong dislike for conference rivals when the rosters flip every spring?

Goodine is a rising senior! Quick, someone throw me some pearls to clutch! This is outrageous!

How is one supposed to develop a strong dislike for conference rivals when the rosters flip every spring? Maybe it's the optimist in me, but I do think there's a chance that much of the shuffle (or perhaps, more accurately, the volume of the shuffle) in the transfer portal is in part because of the newness of doing so, and there may come a time when things settle down a bit. But it will never be as it was before the rules changed. There is a big tendency toward "grass is greener on the other side" mentality. Kids come into programs, a lot of freshman struggle or lack the playing time they want, and then transfer. It's the easy move. This will continue, but at some point, once there are more data points, and people see how things shake out, the lure of leaving a big program for more playing time at a smaller one may be less appealing. All that said, I think the odds of this happening are low, but possible. The reason being is that I think in today's culture kids want what they want immediately, and so transferring is always the easy answer regardless of the merits of doing so. Looking back, though you can easily envision wildly different scenarios. For example, Hibbert was really bad as a freshman. Would a modern-day Hibbert transfer after his freshman year? Same with Starks - he struggled as a freshman and was behind Wright, in today's world would he just transfer? Who knows. And, when you add NIL on top of it, it gets even worse. Looking back, I think a nice middle ground would have been to offer a "free" transfer (with no sitting) but only after sophomore year. In that sense, it would have still given kids a lot of flexibility, while also making some sort of commitment on their end too. It would still give kids a ton of choice, but also bring a little more stability to the game. But, it's too late for that now. The horse is out of the barn or whatever that phrase is.

I definitely think Starks would have transferred in today's environment. A lot of other players through the years that would have done it too. Around the same time, basketball focused Sims would have never made it to his Senior year.

Goodine is a rising senior! Quick, someone throw me some pearls to clutch! This is outrageous! Not quite the same considering Gooding transferred in after his frosh year @ Syracuse plus he played less than 5 minutes per game as opposed to Tim I. who started most of the year for Gtown... Since we're playing the whataboutism game did PE state anything publicly about Tim I's departure?

As for Ewing, he’s pretty bad at every part of his job, so I’m not surprised he didn’t say anything publicly. He should have.

Technically true, but, IMO, Don's entrance into the portal distorts the picture.

Technically true, but, IMO, Don's entrance into the portal distorts the picture. It’s also not the complete picture because we have recruited 120+ additional minutes from the transfer portal, including Bristol. It’s all meaningless without upgrades to the 4 and 5. But it’s early. We’ll see.
