Love your analysis. It raises the question of why not the outside mids drop back when Royson or Boo go forward. Yes, Leas would be great in that role, but I see her great in offensive set up for players attacking the goal. I wouldn't want to lose her in that role, as well as it seems a more seamless switch when your fullback goes forward you drop back into zone to protect on the outside against counters. Don't know, but something so far is not working there witnessed by the increased attention Augur is getting. She is getting constant save situations like Airelle's when she was injured in Cary, NC a few years back. As you say we will find out a lot against X soon. Well, the outside mids *do* drop back...when they're bunkering/trying to see out a win. But when the objective is to get a goal, removing numbers from the attack reduces your options. If you've got significant creativity up top, players who can create their own shot, maybe that's fine. At present, the attack needs the numbers.

That's exactly how I coached back in the day, but then that challenges further analysis why Augur is so "busy" this year. I suspect I have already alluded to my "why". Thanks for the responses.

Women are #12 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer poll and...still #25 in the Coaches' Pool. I can't recall ever seeding a gap that wide...how many of these coaches are having some random student intern fill out their poll each week???

The question raises a quandary as well as another question? Where would one rank them, aside our blue/grey colored glasses. Right now they are hard to figure. With one, or maybe two, toughies I expect them to run the Big East. From there I have no idea how far they push in the NCAA tourney. A lot like 2017 after going to San Jose and the Final Four in 2016. So-so preseason, followed with a first game on the road and a loss.
The ties with NCS, Dartmouth (not so much Princeton) raise questions to those trying to rank the Hoyas. Yes, there are impressive wins. And yes, no losses. But some ties that leave questions. So I imagine when you sit down and tear and compare it is not that easy when it comes to the Hoyas.
Hopefully we are building nicely into the BEAST and run the table and erase any doubt. When you look at the other teams in the rankings from about #8 to #20 it is hard where to place Georgetown with "any authority" and confidence. Now, hope is another story.

Ties against teams you should beat definitely hurt.

It’s true, but they are 2-0-1 in the last 2 weeks, with a win against Rutgers (whose still in the Top 10) and a tie @wvu (who is still in the top 20), as well as a crushing road win at a mediocre W&M team. You would think there would be some upward motion after falling down to the 24-25 range.

Always look at the date of the rankings...I have found NCAAs are oft times many weeks behind...You can look at records too..This may explain a lot of the difference if true.

You would think there would be some upward motion after falling down to the 24-25 range. I agree with both of the above, taken together. Yes, it's hard to know quite where to place these Hoyas right now, but... it's hard to see how a week in which their result was a 6-0 road win still sees them getting leapfrogged in the rankings by the likes of Rice, which tied Texas at home (only shared opponent) and just lost to a Penn team is not receiving a single vote in the poll. Always look at the date of the rankings...I have found NCAAs are oft times many weeks behind...You can look at records too..This may explain a lot of the difference if true. Yeah, the NCAA does an abysmal job maintaining their sites. For the polls, you really want to go directly to the United Soccer Coaches website.

Starting to solidify. #25 is probably not too far off. Reminiscent of 2019 after the Final Four year.

Today is big. On the road against what is considered the #2 team in the Big East. Results so far are good, but a bit below preseason expectation. Time to see Hoya dominance show up. Bring your game.
