I've heard nothing about Georgetown's thinking on this, but could they require proof of vaccination or a recent negative test to attend games at Capital One this year if they wanted to? Or does the arena itself have to set the policy? I don't believe any were required for the last few Wizards games with fans this season. Does anyone know the logistics or the legalities here? Obviously, I'm all for it, but I don't know if it is realistic or not.

At the very least given the size of the arena and average attendance it would be great if they could spread us out regardless. Even with the vaccine I wouldn't feel comfortable being packed into an arena with other fans. They should also let us know before we purchase season tickets.

DC removed the ceiling on attendance on June 11th. I assume that Monumental can distribute tickets in a manner it sees fit. As a season ticket holder, I pay my seat license fee in order to retain my location every year. Given that neither DC nor Cap One have required vaccine passports or negative tests for attendance at Cap One for Wiz or Caps games, I can't imagine it will be required for Hoya games. "Capital One Arena can move to full capacity on June 11, when all of the District's COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted. May 21 is when restrictions lift for everything but entertainment venues and bars."

has anyone heard anything about season tickets for the upcoming season? I can't remember if I renewed for the canceled COVID season, but I haven't heard a word from the athletics department about renewing - or about anything, in fact.

IIRC, there was no renewal for the 2020 season and I have received nothing about this upcoming season.

The last thing I heard was sometime around last January when they told us there would be no fans for the rest of last season. Haven't heard a thing since, and obviously there is a lot that goes into getting fans back, especially since this damn thing still isn't over yet.

Should get more interesting and dynamic as the season gets closer and many are using masks again due to Delta

From the renewal letter to season ticket holders:
"We will be working in conjunction with Capital One Arena as well as the District of Columbia, NCAA, and BIG EAST Conference to provide information on health and safety protocols for fans in advance of the start of the 2021-22 season. Please know that you may renew now and if for any reason you are not comfortable with the health and safety protocols in place, you may request a full refund at a later date."

Who knows what the public health orders will be come November. www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-mask-mandate-covid/2021/07/29/7699c8e0-efe6-11eb-81d2-ffae0f931b8f_story.html

DC has heard immunity. WTF. Only 4 people died of Covid in July at a time when we weren't wearing masks. We are more likely to get murdered in DC than die of Covid. But let's mask up even if we're vaccinated. That's the squeaky wheel. Plus, the most vulnerable seniors are like 80% vaccinated. Covid isn't the biggest problem facing DC. If young people are more afraid of getting shot than Covid, I get it and the science supports that. God bless our Hoyas. I pray that they have the strength to persevere through this madness. They're being done a huge injustice.

So a week ago 1789 wasn't comfortable going to games unless they spread out the fans but now DC has herd immunity and (s)he has a problem with wearing masks? I'm sure that'll help the University and CapOne figure out next steps.

I regret any confusion.
I have no problem wearing masks or adhering to the other public health guidelines.
My concern is DC government taking CDC recommendations and being so quick to go a step further and announce mandates related to Covid. DC's seemingly hair trigger Covid responses to open/close/mask/unmask/etc. feel extreme and disproportionate to me especially compared to how the Governors in MD and VA are choosing to react. I am afraid that these on again/ off again mandates aren't very helpful either and that DC's willingness to announce mandates won't abate any time soon and that Georgetown basketball may needlessly suffer because of them.

Someone regurgitating the dumbass Fox News talking points like a loyal conservative robot It's like they didn't learn anything at all from trying to compare it to flu numbers before hospitalizations increased. If not many people are hospitalized (June), not many people are going to die of it - which the cherry picked July 14-28 period represents, but the Delta variant means hospitalization is increasing.

You people need to cut it out with this foolishness. Let the DC government run the city because no one wants to get Covid unless you're stupid!

Well said hoyaatheart55. Precautions are important, but they can be taken too far. Just today the New York Times acknowledged that humans have vainly overestimated their power over viruses. NYT even admitted, “This spring, caseloads were not consistently higher in parts of the U.S. that had relaxed masking and social distancing measures (like Florida and Texas) than in regions that remained vigilant.” At this point it would be ridiculous to mandate vaccines and masks for sporting events.
