Big East let family and friends and all manner of other exceptions attend. Ticket holders were expressly not allowed to attend. And by the way, the playing of that 20 minutes was a legal masterstroke given the losses they would have encountered under the MSG contract. If it was a sham 20 minutes in order to fulfill contractual obligations, why allow family? I think we're making the same point that the Big East prioritizes money over safety of its athletes.

To put things into context, Georgetown is not the only team backing out of these tournaments, and a lot of games/tournaments are being canceled/moved, so we'll see where things end up when a schedule is finalized. Also keep in mind that the Big East is trying to start conference games December 12th, which doesn't give much time between November 25th and December 12th for scheduling non-conference games. More scheduling adjustments by other teams:
